It’s an unlikely story, and it’s even unlikely are that the story would continue to be retold a little over 2000 years later. But so it is retold, and continues to become stronger in the retelling.
There’s an awful lot in the story which is hard for some people to believe; the Jesus lived to begin with, that he died and was raised up by God, all on our behalf, and that by our being bonded to Christ through baptism we too, are raised up. That his resurrection is given this victory over sin and death and that evil cannot finally triumph. Because of the resurrection, death has lost it’s sting.
But these are the amazing convictions that make up what we know as Christianity. And those points, are why we celebrate, today.
