Nightly Ramble; an Off Color Mood

The Music: Random.

Yes, it means what it says. Tonight, I was in a somewhat less than foul mood, but not overjoyed, either. I’ll get to why in a minute. So, I let my player, play what IT wanted.
.

I should make a note, about the “music magic” plug in for WinAmp. This thing goes through your entire music collection, (At least, what you have in Winamp’s database) and figures out some rather interesting musical mixes, based on a number of factors. sometimes, the mixes, one song to another, are a little awkward, other times it works like crazy. I haven’t quite figured out how it figures out what to play and what not to play. That being said on examining portions of my musical collection that I haven’t touched in years, save for dumping it down to MP3. If you’ve got Winamp… and you should… you should also look into this plugin.

* As for my mood, I suppose a lot of that was due to the Virginia Tech business, which I’ve already comment on at length, and will doubtless do so again. Some of it was due to a longer than usual day at work, and the continued cold we’ve been dealing with around here. (Global warming my butt)

Some of it, though, was due to what I saw over at the Nassau coliseum tonight. Apparently, all the chuckle heads in the world are in New York City and environs. First, we hear some yutz make an obscene comment to the girl who just sung the national anthem, doing a pretty fair job of it, and doubtless singing her heart out. I won’t bother repeating the comment here. Next, we see a bunch of the same types, throwing beer bottles cups, and towels on to the ice in response to a call against their team.

The TV crews tried to minimize the effect, but you could still see stuff landing on the ice, as both teams left for the locker room after the game. I look at that kind of situation and wonder what has happened to our society. And, given the trend, what is going to happen to our society. The really scary part of it is, these idiots get to both drive, and vote. Did I mention that New York state, and in particular New York City, have voted overwhelmingly Democratic in the last several elections? I’ll let you draw your own conclusions. That the Sabres beat New York raised my mood to one of grim satisfaction, if only briefly. Idiots.

* It’s been a crazy two weeks, for BitsBlog. We’ve been getting absolutely crazy numbers, for the last couple of weeks, and sometimes I wonder if it’s going to last. But, as it stands right now, we are pretty much, daily hit rate wise, where we were prior to the move off of BlogSpot…. around 325hpd. I predicted that the time we made the move it would take around six months, to get to this point. That we beat that estimate by a couple of months, pleases me no end. All hail DavidL and Fersboo for doing a great job.

.

* The weather looks to be grey around here for a few more days. It’s no big deal, as winters go, but this isn’t suppsoed to be winter. Then again, it really didn’t start until January around here either, so I guess I don’t mind the trade-off.

.

* I’m toying with the idea of replacing BitsBox for something a bit more powerful… a Diesel Pickup Most likely, a Dodge 2500 crew cab, with the Cummins. I may or may not do that soon, but I will eventually. Sad, really; I love that little van, It’s been idea, configuration-wise for us, and fairly well bullit-proof. I have an awful lot of sweat into it, too. I’ve listed my reasons for wanting the Diesel in the past.. [1]and they’ve not changed, though the reasons are mitigated somewhat by the fact that the van is nearly paid off… and I can pour a LOT of fuel and parts for what another monthly payment would cost. On the other hand, the van is 10 years old, with 130k on it. Still very serviceable, (200k isn’t unusual at all for the Astro frame, after all) …but for how long? Still, I hate… and I mean HATE the idea of selling BitsBox.

Well, we’ll see.

.

* I gather they’ve made some changes at SNAP, who are the folks who put up those preview windows I installed a few months back, here at BitsBlog. Closed circuit to my co-writers; I’ll be passing along instructions for how to use the new features, soon. Watch your mail.

.

* There’s a light at the end of this tunnel… something to look forward to. My wife and I are taking Monday off to have an “us” day. It’s kind of to make up for the last time we tried to arrange such a day. It turned out to be a snow day, and we had the kids here all day, climbing the walls. It’s supposed to be a nice day too, though I’d better not say more, for fear of throwing the whole thing off.

.

* I’ll close with a thought to those lost in Virginia today, and their families. I’ve made my comments about the causes for both the violence and it’s severity, earlier. [2]

I spoke in anger, then, much as I stand by my words.

I’ll tell you plainly; I regret neither my words, nor my timing. Such an event is time for the truth, and not for trying to dodge it; I’m sure I’ll be speaking even stronger on the points I made as this thing moves forward. My disgust for the non-thought that left so many so defenseless runs high. I hold such people responsible for the deaths not being limited to a few… or preferably, to one… the perp himself.

But, I’d be remiss if I didn’t also, as a part of my more personal daily comments express sympathy for those lost, and their loved ones.Such words are not easy to come by, even under less strenuous circumstances than these. Perhaps, though, it is enough for the purpose, to simply recognize the victims and their families. The act of simple recognition , is likely enough to communicate their position in our hearts. What needs to be expressed to them is beyond words, anyway. And they know this, better than do we.
