Robert Reich, Salon [1], issues a warming:
The President seems to me especially thoughtful and passionate about one of the great moral questions of domestic policy today: widening inequality of income and wealth, and therefore of opportunity and political power. As I’ve noted before, as recently as 1980, the richest 1 percent of Americans took home about 9 percent of total national income. But since then, income has concentrated in fewer and fewer hands. By 2007, the richest 1 percent took home 22 percent of total national income.
As usual, Reich comes up short. Passion is wonderful. The late Julia Child [2]was passionate about cooking, but alas Child actually knew how to cook, and quite well. Further Child could actually speak without the aid of a teleprompter.
While Barack Obama may share of all Child’s passion, she shares none of her competence. Obama does not live in the real world. Rather Obama resides in his delusional Obamaland. While equal income distribution ma sound like a wonderful Stalinist dream, every nation which has attempted the theory of equal distribution has only generated widespread distribution of grinding poverty. Would it be better to be on the top of the economic heap in say Cuba or in the middle in say Cleveland. I’ll take Cleveland, and you?
