Breakfast Scramble

DavidL's Breakfast Scramble
Obami, fly shat, pepper, boxing gloves, Robert Spencer, Front Line Magazine [1]:

Barack Obama has removed all mention of Islam from the National Security Strategy document, which during the Bush Administration said: “The struggle against militant Islamic radicalism is the great ideological conflict of the early years of the 21st century.” Obama apparently agrees with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who said Monday: “Islam and terrorism cannot be mentioned together, because they are contradictory to each other.”

Erdogan, incidentally, also famously said this about “moderate Islam”: “These descriptions are very ugly, it is offensive and an insult to our religion. There is no moderate or immoderate Islam. Islam is Islam and that’s it.” And that statement itself demonstrates one of the key fallacies of the Obama Administration’s stance that Islam has nothing to do with, uh, Islamic terrorism.

Sorry Barry, but not offending the camel jockeys will not keep us safe, or keep you in office past 2012.

Too Bad We’re Not Building New Garbage Scows
Politicians—more than likely led by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi— have pressured the Navy [3] into naming a new San Antonio-class amphibious ship after ex-Marine and Democratic pork champion John Murtha.

Jeers for George, J. Taylor Rushing, Hill [4]:

Former New York Gov. George Pataki (R) decided not to run for the Senate this fall because he may have a higher goal in mind — the presidency, according to National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn (R-Texas).

Cornyn said he had been trying to recruit Pataki to challenge Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) for a year and a half, but Pataki announced this week he’s not interested in the Senate.

Pataki’s political train left the station ten years ago.  I voted for Pataki three times, and I don’t think that Pataki could be elected dog catcher inside the state.   Outside, of New York I’d give Ron Paul(R-Moon) a better shot that Pataki.  George if you want to run for president start acting like a candidate, if y0u can.

Cheers for me, I gotta like this argument from National Review: [5]

If Only Women Died On The Job As Much as Men   [Jonah Goldberg [6]]

Mark Perry makes a great point [7]. One of the reasons why men make more money than women is that they’re more likely to be paid to risk their lives. Obviously, if we fairly close the pay gap, these two bars will look alike:

I like the graphics, and may borrow them.  However the statistics and the argument ought to look familiar, yours truly from March 18 [8]:

As to the seventy cents on the dollar myth, women’s is different than men’s, because women make different choices.    When the last time you called a plumber in the middle of the night and a woman responded?    Men and women make different choices.  Difference choices leads to different outcomes.   Example the Bureau of Labor Statistics listing of job related fatalities for the year 2008 [9]:

Men………………………………………………………………  4,703
Women…………………………………………………………… 368

That is over twelve men killed on the job for every women.  Put those statistics in your tail and chew on it honey.

I don’t argue that statistics are the be and and end all    However I hold that if you want to play the statistics game, I’ll play and play it better.
