Breakfast Scramble: Obama Goes Kerry

DavidL's Breakfast Scramble
Barack Obama, a/k/a Dumbo, was for corporate taxes breaks before he was against them.

Dumbo then, from February 18, 2009 Fox News [1]:

WASHINGTON — Just a few months after lawmakers scolded auto executives for flying to Washington in private jets, Congress approved a tax break in the stimulus package to help businesses buy their own planes.

The incentive — first used to help plane makers recover from the 2001 terror attacks — sharply reduces the up front tax bill for companies who buy assets like business planes.

The aviation industry, which is cutting jobs as it suffers from declining shipments and canceled orders, hopes the tax break in the economic-stimulus bill just signed by President Barack Obama will persuade more companies to buy planes and snap a slump in general aviation that began last year.

Dumbo now, from Ron Fournier, National Journal [2]:

In his first full-scale news conference since March, the president insisted that Democrats had compromised in private talks by agreeing to billions of dollars in budget cuts that would hurt their voters. But, he said, Republicans were refusing to bend by not agreeing to eliminate tax breaks to owners of corporate jets and profit-rich oil companies. If Republicans get their way, Obama said, the end result would be unbalanced deal that lifts the debt limit but forces the government to make deeper-than-necessary cuts.

If tax breaks for corporateĀ  jets are so evil, why did Mrs. Pelosi’s caucus pass them without a single republican vote and why did President Obama sign them into law?

Reax, William A. Jacobson, Legal Insurrection [3]:

This is too precious, via TweetDrudge [4], Democrats were the ones who passed the tax breaks for corporate jets in 2009 [5] as part of the Stimulus Package [5]. Hey, can you blame him for not knowing it, he didn’t read the bill.

More reax, from Jill, Pundit & Pundette [6]:

I counted seven mentions of this deadly bane. Perhaps someone should have asked the president why a he signed this deadly scourge into law [7], siphoning resources away from disabled children, sick old people, bright young minds in need of tuition, and even weather services

Maybe Dumbo should have taken Mrs. Pelosi’s advice and read the bill, before he signed it.

The Holder Effect, a consequence, intended or otherwise, from Eric Holder’s strange doctrine that illegal combatants need to protected by our constitutional civil rights and not the laws of war. Evidently the Obami have figured out that dead men have no stinking constitutional rights, from Craig Whitlock, Washington Post [8]:

The top military official involved in the raid that killed Osama bin Laden [9]said Tuesday that the Obama administration has no clear plan for handling suspected terrorist leaders if they are caught alive outside a war zone. Vice Adm. William H. McRaven [10] told a Senate panel that contingency plans for detaining terrorism suspects are developed on an ad hoc basis and approved by the White House, but that there are no set rules. “That is always a difficult issue for us,” he testified. “No two cases seem to be alike.”

While I believe that illegal combatants are not entitled to constitutional right, I do believe that they have valuable intelligence. It is truly a shame to see these enemy combatants killed before they can de-briefed.

Reax, Ed Morrissey, argues that what I am calling the Holder Effect is just the Obami stuck in their normal mode, to wit stupid, from Hot Air [11]:

Say, anyone have any idea how to handle a captured terrorist?  Apparently not anyone in the White House, even after more than two years of running the war on terror, according to Vice Admiral William McRaven’s confidence-builder [8] in yesterday’s testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee.  While Leon Panetta told Congress a few months ago that the Obama administration had a process figured out, they seem to have kept it from the people doing the capturing:

I’ll have a Diet Pepsi with that, from Hill [12]:

President Obama made a lunchtime pit stop during his Iowa trip Tuesday. Obama’s motorcade made an unannounced visit to Ross’ Restaurant in Bettendorf, Iowa, one of the quad cities on the border of Illinois and Iowa. The visit surprised owner Cynthia Freidhof, who met the president at a town hall meeting in August 2008. […] Ross’ restaurant is known for dishes called “Mountains”; their signature dish is the Magic Mountain: Texas grilled toast, hamburger meat, French fries or hash browns and cheese sauce.

Sounds like a pale imitation of a Rochester style plate.
