Air Jordans

Eric’s local mall’s  doors opens at seven-thirty. At such a time, the mall is typically is only populated with mall walkers. The food court is open, but the stores are generally closed. Today, two Bitblog reporters, a/k/a breakfast patrons, reported long lines outside the local Footlocker. The stores were letting shoppers in one or two at time, and had a reported five security guards. No local incidents of which I am aware. However this may explain the mayhem:

SEATTLE (AP [1]) – The release of Nike’s new Air Jordan basketball shoes caused a frenzy at stores across the nation Friday as scuffles broke out and police were brought in to stamp out unrest that nearly turned into riots in some places.

Shoppers stood in long lines through the night to get their hands on a retro version of one of the most popular models of Air Jordans ever made. The fights were reminiscent of violence that broke out in the early 1990s on streets across America as the shoes became popular targets for thieves.

It does seem the idea of a bargain does trump Christmas spirit.
