The State of the Race… The Democrats…

Like most other people, I’ve been watching with dry amusement the disintegration of the presidential campaign of Hillary Rodham Clinton. Personally, I can’t help but wonder how much of this destruction will be happening with the directives coming from the White House. Proof? Not as yet, but personally I can’t imagine a lot of this stuff going down without some serious help.

Certainly, there is no love lost between the Obama wing of the party and the Clintonistas. Irony abounds, here. In my view it’s the first time since attaining the office that Obama and company are actually serving the interests of the American people.

It’s clear that just about everybody with a pulse that she’s not going to get the nomination, and even if she did there’s no way in the world should have been able to attain the White House. It’s really too bad she’s not going to get the nomination, because it would guarantee a Republican victory in the next election.

Be that as it may, and as a result of that disintegration, we now have the spectacle of Bernie Sanders leading the pack for the Democrat nomination. I have no doubt whatsoever that there has always been a faction within the Democrat Party, indeed upwards of 40%, who want to see an outright socialist in the top slot. That said, its not my perception that Bernie Sanders will never attain the majority of Democrat primary voters. Since Hillary Clinton, who now has 40% of Democrat voters in her corner, and who would never vote for somebody along the lines of a Sanders, he won’t achieved that goal either, and even if assuming they managed by some outright miracle to achieve the Democrat nomination, will never make it in the general, we now have a question of who will take over that top slot.

Which in turn leads us the spectacle of Joe Biden looking to be the likely nominee. At the moment, there is nobody else that’s even close to achieving the kind of popularity that would be required for such a feat.

But given that Biden was considered even by most Democrats to be the resident town fool as recently as a few months ago, one really must wonder about the frustration in the mind of the average Democrat voter these days.

Now putting this all together, what this scenario reveals is just how weak the Democrats are, how thin their bench is. Barring somebody else getting into the race, let’s say a John Kerry for example, this is the way it’s going to ride out till the end. Would such a latecomer have a chance? Doubtful.

So….

Barring the Republicans not coming up with an actual conservative to put in the top slot before the end of the primary season, this is the GOPs race to lose.

That said, it’s absolutely crucial that the Republicans come up with a real conservative, and there’s a couple running right now. And I’ll address that scenario in tomorrow’s notes.
