I’ve got a basketball joke for you.
LeBron james.
Look, even leaving aside what I said about what’s happened to the game of basketball over the years (here) [1] what do we have in Mr James is yet another “oppressed” billionaire, who because he can shoot baskets without screwing it up too badly, figures he also has the ability to shoot off his mouth.
Far be it for me to diminish anyone’s ability to speak out on any topic they desire, including LeBron James.
Thing is, it’s generally a good idea to at least have some connection to reality when you do so, and LeBron James has as of yet not demonstrated that ability. I guess that’s what happens when you live in a billionaire cocoon.
The real problem of course is the number of people that take the guy seriously without bothering to check to see if that connection to reality actually exists.
With the conclusions starting to lean toward LeBron James not being the best in the nba [2], whatever that means, one can only suppose that he is trying to continue to be “relevant”… Has any trying to maintain his income stream.
It is truly difficult to narrow down a few cases in point of the money that are available but I’ll give it a shot:
(CNN) [3]The political organization cofounded by NBA superstar LeBron James launched a new campaign Monday to promote voting rights and criminal justice reform.
The campaign, “Protect Our People,” is being spearheaded by James’ More Than a Vote, a voting rights organization; and Uninterrupted, an athlete empowerment brand.
“We can’t lose the momentum of last summer,” reads a tweet from Uninterrupted. “We need real solutions to stop police brutality.”
Well how about not being criminal?
That would seem kind of basic and it’s a point that gets ignored by his highness. (Too busy sucking on that tequila bottle at the NBA finals I suppose.)
This line does have the advantage of telling his double digit IQ fans what they want to hear, thus solidifying his multi-million dollar income, but it is of course creating further damage in a society which can afford no more damage.
