It was a year ago today that the Francis Scott Key bridge was struck by a cargo ship and essentially destroyed.
We can certainly argue about the cause of the accident, (was it in fact an accident?) responsibility for set accident, etc etc. But that’s not my point.
They haven’t started on the new bridge, in fact they haven’t even bothered tearing down what’s left of the old one. It’s been bottled up and red tape, as I predicted a year ago.
Instead of rebuilding the bridge, we’re worried about environmental impact statements, making sure that the racial makeup of the workers rebuilding the bridge are within government guidelines, that they’re all unionised, and so on…
As far as I’m concerned this is emblematic of just about anything the government tries to do. The old saying about the camel being a horse constructed by committee, applies very well indeed.
This is one of the major reasons why our country’s founders concentrated their efforts on limiting government.
