NYC-(Fox) Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday questioned why Iran can’t have a nuclear program when the United States has one, repeated his inference that historical accounts of the Holocaust are myths, and denied that there are homosexuals in Iran.In animated remarks before students and faculty at a controversial speaking engagment at Columbia university, the Iranian leader also denied that Iran sponsors terror, and instead pointed the finger at the U.S. government as a supporter of terrorism.

Columbia President Lee Bollinger opened the program with a blistering introduction in which he lambasted Ahmadinejad for calling for the annihilation of Israel, denying the Holocaust and supporting the execution of children, and told the leader of Iran that he resembled “a petty and cruel dictator.”Bollinger levied repeated criticisms against Ahmadinejad, calling on him to answer a series of challenges about his leadership, blasting his views about the “myth” of the Holocaust as being “absurd,” and saying that he doubted he “will have the intellectual courage to answer these questions.””You are either brazenly provocative or astonishingly uneducated,” Bollinger told Ahmadinejad about the leader’s Holocaust denial. “Will you cease this outrage?”

After sitting through Bollinger’s rebuke, Ahmadinejad rose to applause, and after a religious invocation, opened his remarks by objecting to the scolding, saying it was insulting to be spoken about that way.

Yeah, well, hard pork chops. What you’re saying is, you can’t deal with the truth.

He asked why the United States was allowed to develop nuclear weapons capabilities, but his country was not.

“How come you have that right and we don’t have it?” he challenged.

The answer, of course, is something else that we have that he doesn’t; Sanity. Then again, we do lack the desire to commit genocide in the name of religious fervor.

Limbaugh observes correctly, something I noted earlier today at Q&O:

Well, look again at the 60 minutes bit.
Reread, if you have the stomach for it, the text of that interview.
Tell me that he’s not pulling his answers directly from the DNC talking points. Good lord, he could be the keynote speaker at the convention.

Well, of course he pulled the same act at Columbia, today. Limbaugh is good enough to put the 60 minutes transcript :

AHMADINEJAD (via translator): I think Mr. Bush, if he wants his party to win the next elections, there are cheaper ways…and ways to go about this. I can very well give him a few ideas so that the people vote for him. He should respect the American people. They should not bug the telephone conversations of their citizens. They should not kill their sons and daughters of the American nation. They should not squander the taxpayers’ money and give them to weapons companies. If — and also help the people, the victims of Katrina. People will vote for them, if they do these things.

RUSH: (Laughing.) He’s giving Republicans campaign advice by basically reciting the Democrat Party platform! This guy could keynote the 2008 Democrat National Convention after he finishes at Columbia. Did Pelosi meet him at the airport? Was she part of the official greeting party? Well, I’m surprised. Was Kucinich out there? They want to go there. He’s reciting the Democrat Party platform? Katrina? (Laughing.)

And again:

AHMADINEJAD (via translator): Well, thank you for that. You are like a CIA investigator and —

PELLEY: I’m just a reporter!

AHMADINEJAD (via translator): (giggling)

PELLEY: I am a simple, average American reporter.

AHMADINEJAD (via translator): This is not Guantanamo Bay. This is not a Baghdad prison. This is not a secret prison in Europe. This is not Abu Ghraib. This is Iran! I am the president of this country!

RUSH: Now, look, to me this is funny, but in all candor, he is regurgitating Democrat Party talking points — not “liberal” talking points. He is reciting what he has heard said on the floor of the United States Senate by people like Dick Durbin, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, and people like Harry Reid — and over in the House, Nancy Pelosi. If I were an elected official of this country and somebody like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a state sponsor of terror, starts mimicking and reciting my talking points — privately, I get mad. Privately, I get embarrassed. I don’t know that the Democrats have that ability to be embarrassed by this. I sit here and I marvel at the similarity. Of course, Bin Laden does it, too. In fact, who is it actually speaking at Columbia at 1:30, is it Ahmadinejad or is it Bin Laden? You know, what difference would it make, folks, when Bin Laden comes out with a tape, when Ahmadinejad grants an interview to 60 Minutes. Forget the Democrats. What about the American people who saw this, who pay attention? Did they not recognize that one of our sworn enemies is reciting Democrat Party talking points in an effort to try to sway the American people? He’s basically, Ahmadinejad is, saying to these people in the audience, “Hey, I’m no different than your average Democrat, and we’re very encouraged by the election results in ’06.”

Yes, well, the point to be made here, is that there is no difference between them.   Which is precisely why the Kos Kids are gushing so. They found their political soulmate in Ahmadenijad… likely, someone who is closer to their own politics than any of the people actually RUNNING for POTUS.

Addendum:  (David L)   My thoughts, Ahmadinejad is a joke.   My proof.    Well at lesst he was good for a few  lauighs.
