It appears that the Liberal party of Canada has succeeded in winning the national elections yesterday but not by much. I have the parliamentary seat totals but not the breakdowns, as yet. As such, my commentary will be ready limited for the moment.

Statistically speaking, the only two measurements that matter are the Liberal party and the Conservative party. The remainder are so small in number as to be inconsequential to policy issues in Parliament. None of the others come close to those two. So, here you are:

2024 2021

L. 167 160

C. 145 119

I caution you to treat these as preliminary numbers.

I include the 2021 results for perspective. Most of the conservative gains this time around, come from the smaller parties such as the PQ, the NDP, and the Greens who all lost substantial numbers.

(Hmmm…perhaps I should say Green, as opposed to the plural because there is only one seat held by the Green party as of this morning.)

Actually, it amazes me that the election was this close given the scandals governmental abuses, and just downright stupidity that have been in the news over the last few years, it seems the only way that the Liberals would have been tossed out of power would be if Justin Trudeau was discovered with a proverbial dead girl, or live boy in his bed. And possibly not even then.

Make no mistake… the majority of that factor comes from the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. It’s my thought that the rest of Canada will pay the price.

What I do not have, in terms of data is the provincial breakdowns and I am quite interested in seeing what the numbers look like west of the province of Ontario. Those numbers, I think, will bear very heavily on Canada’s future.
