More about curiosity than anything else, I’ve been digging through the many paragraphs written about the ascendancy of the new Pope…. and finding very little of substance.  What little I can find suggests that the new Pontiff is as liberal as the old one. So a bit of disappointment right at the off.

It strikes me that the mainstream media’s analysts in many cases, have a bit of an over-reliance on the phrase “stand up to Donald Trump”…. (Particularly from the British press, from what I’m seeing so far… which in turn strikes me as an unattractive bias…. which I suppose given what we know about the mainstream media, should surprise nobody.

Bottom line we’re not going to get a real sense of who this guy is…. at least not from these initial reports from the MSM. I guess we’ll have to ait for things to unfold in time.

Addendum; from the comments over at Glenn’s place:

“The new pope is on record being pro-immigrants, anti-LGBT, and anti-abortion. Of course the NYT etc. are now having headlines how he “doubts Trump’s immigration policy” (and not a word about his doubts about LBGT+-=QWERTY-M13, surprise surprise). So is he left or right? Conservative or liberal? So far, at least, it seems the simplest explanation to all of this is that he is, how do you say it… Catholic?! Well, that’s a change from the last guy.”

I passed this along because Glenn’s commenter raises an important point, albeit indirectly:

There is a danger in taking at face value, any analysis of anything from the mainstream media, but particularly when we start talking about matters of faith.

The MSM has a long history of bending reality to the leftist’s political agenda, and it is foolish to ignore that history when discussing the thought processes of the new Pope.

Unfortunately, the mainstream media is, to the largest of degrees, the only thing we’ve got to go with in terms of analysis.

Now, the mainstream media never misses an opportunity to raise negative points about Donald Trump, Which,of course means  that the new Pope now gets saddled with the mainstream media’s self serving complaints about Donald Trump’s immigration policies, which may or may not actually mesh with the views of Pope Leo.

We have all seen popes come and go and each time we have seen that the mainstream media in its analysis of the views of each pontiff has been less than precise.

I suppose we’re just going to have to sit back and watch the proverbial Nickelodeon to see what develops.
