Don Imus

I’ll leave the Imus bashing to Bit.   Shock jocks are not my particular cup of tea.

I come not to praise Don Imus.  Rather I am here to dismiss him.   Imus is what Imus is, to wit a shock jock.   Shock jocks shock the audience.  I’m shocked.  There are far more talented shock jocks to which I don ‘t listen, than Imus.  If don’t like Imus, don’t listen to him.

Enough.

My point is what gives Al Sharpton the moral authority to criticize anybody, for anything?

Before anybody fires Don Imus from the radio, Al Sharpton should be fired first.   Imus refer to Rutgers’ basketball players as “nappy.”   Offensive.

Yet the Reverend Al accused Steven A. Pagones of raping one Tawana Brawley.   Sharpton’s charge was false.  Anybody with I.Q. above room temperature should have known Sharpton’s allegation were false.  Yet Sharpton has never apolgized.

Crystal Gail Mangum falsely accused Collin Finnerty, Dave Evans, and  Reade Seligmann of rape.  Yet the Reverend Al, never saw fit to either defend Finnerty, Reade and Seligmann, nor did Sharpton ever criticize Mangum.

Al SharptonSharpton is part and parcel in one effort to falely smear white males, and willfully silent in another smear job.    As far as moral authority goes, I’ll take Imus over Sharpton anyday.  Imus is the the one who is honest enough to admit what he is, to wit a shock jock.  Sharpton is merely a race  huckster, who refuses to admit such.

  1. The difference that is that Sharpton is black.
Consider Boortz’s comments on the matter today:

First of all … I don’t listen to the show. I’ve tried. I just don’t get it. Apparently Imus called the Rutgers woman’s basketball team a bunch of “nappy headed hos.” Not good. Stupid even. But correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Stevie Wonder have some song in which he referred to himself as a “nappy headed little boy”? And is it not true that you can hear black women referred to as “hos” on virtually any urban hip hop station on any given day? Stevie Wonder is black, as are the rappers who denigrate black women with abandon. They’re allowed. The real issue here is that the words were spoken by someone-not-black.

Boortz goes on to suggest that radio people, who work without a the net that print and even internet Pundits have, are EXPECTED to foul up once in a while… and as you rightly point out, Imus is a shock jock, anymore, and is more likely than most thereby to run afoul of someone’s boundries… that’s the job description.

But the REAL issue here is in the quoted para; Imus isn’t black and therefore doesn’t get the pass that Snoop Dogg would, for example.

To point out that the distinction is itself racist seems to me needless. Then again, look who he’s groveling in front of; Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson… both lying racist… bigots who are pros at taking offense when they might actually be able to get some money out of it.

And as I said last night, I’m far from convinced this whole thing doesn’t benefit Imus, in terms of ratings. So, Imus wins and so do the race baiting hucksters.

Was all this planned?  I don’t know, but they could hardly have managed all this better had it BEEN planned.

  2. If I were a betting man, I’d say it wasn’t planned.  Imus does show flying by the seat of his pants.  I doubt Imus or his producers have foggiest concept of a script.
