I was sorry to hear about Joe Biden’s recent cancer diagnosis. Undoubtedly, it is devastating for both he and his family.

That said, a number of thoughts jump into the foreground incidental to the release of this diagnosis.

I have yet to see any advanced grave dancing from the right since this news came out. The responses that I have seen are subdued and largely sympathetic… I can’t imagine that I would be saying the same, had Donald Trump received such a diagnosis. I base that on the reaction of the left incidental to the assassination attempts on Mr Trump… which are best described as a combination of joy that somebody had tried and annoyance that they hadn’t succeeded.

Then there’s the timing of the release of this diagnosis… Well after he had been removed from contention for a second term in the White House and very shortly after the release of much of the damning Hur interview tapes. Is it possible that the release of this information was strategically timed as a weapon of mass destruction? When you’re talking about the president of the United States you’re talking about somebody who’s health is of such a concern that there is probably no other person on the planet that receives better healthcare and yet this devastating diagnosis shows up just now? One would have to be a True believer to not at least consider the question. After all, absent that diagnosis the investigation into who it was that was actually running the show and what crimes were committed in that process would certainly have been far more vigorous… To say nothing of the needful investigation into the dealings with Ukraine etc etc. as it is, we would certainly see loud protests worried about sympathy for Biden and his family as he faces this illness as a foil for having to face a criminal conviction or five.

As an aside… I am somewhat less sympathetic to the plight of Biden then I might be with the fresh memory of Democrats sitting on their hands for a 13-year-old cancer survivor at the State of the Union address.
