We’ve had a spot of bother with the website, here at BitsBlog.

Starting sometime on Friday night, we started getting attacked from somewhere in Argentina.  I’m not quite sure of all that was going on, but nobody, including DavldL and myself, were able to log in.

I spent most of Saturday trying to trace the trouble. I finally gave up and told the ISP to to a wipe and tape restore.  Once this was done I applied all the latest and greatest from WordPress, which supposedly will remove the security hole this guy got in through.

Oh… and yes, there appeared to be a political angle to it. Apparently, whoever it was, wasn’t too keen on my attitude toward Hugo Chavez.

(Shrug) I thought Chavez was running Venezuela, not Argentina….

My advice to you, is to change your passwords, and make sure your anti virus is up to date.  Particularly, as regards ActiveX. Not so much for any specifically known threat, but because I don’t know what code got inserted. Whatever it was, the complete wipe and restore (A week back plus manual write-ins) will have removed it, and the security patches should keep it out.

You’ll pardon me if my blogging is a little light today… it was a long night, last night sorting this stuff out.
