Richard Gere denounces ‘Moral Police’

Richard Gere denounced a small right-wing minority in India whose complaints and protests led to a judge issuing an arrest warrant against the Hollywood star for violating the country’s strict public obscenity laws.

Gere is little more that Micheal Moore on diet pills.  An apology would be in order.   Then Hollywood types are to vain to ever apologize.

Apparently, we now have a clue as to why this guy’s so flat out weird.

I mean, I don’t even watch the show, and I could see that far in the clips everyone and their brother’s been showing, between giggles.

Exxon Mobil Corp. announced record first quarter profits.  Ok.

In response, Senator Bob Casey, (D-PA) introduced a bill to tax windfall profits.   Casey  somehow “hopes will curtail rising gasoline prices.”

How?   On what planet, if any, did Casey study economics.  What economic model, if any, says that providing a disincentives to produce a commodity will somehow lower the price of said commodity?   When have production disincentives ever lowered the price of anything?

In the opposite plane, rental controls have demonstrated history of producing housing shortages.   Disincentives to produce gasoline can only mean less gasoline and yet higher prices.

Now I don’t hold any shares in Exxon-Mobil and have no direct interest in their corporate profits.  However I do consume gasoline and have no interest in some hair-brained scheme which can only result in higher prices.

Is that the only solution the democrats have to offer for any problem, yet higher taxes.

Regards Rosie O’Donnell leaving “The View”;

First of all, this is hardly an issue of national import, nor was it unpredictable. So, perhaps the press is making more out of this than is warranted. That said, however, there’s a pattern here worth noting:

Since I’ve watched maybe 15 minutes of the program collectively over the years, and that only through happenstance, it doesn’t matter much to me one way or the other. Still, I’m baffled by O’Donnell’s transformation from a benign comic actress to a rather vile, screeching commentator. A little less of that won’t be a great loss.

Think back, and consider the story lines, as they deveoped… between Rosie O’Donnel, and Andrew Sullivan. Each, over the years has developed an increasing incoherency, that has been in each case, most strident in nature, and very disturbing to witness.

I’ve commented on Sullivan developing into a screeching one note Samba in the past. Everything he comments on, even in the most casual of senses, is centered on his homosexuality… and have always considered his race to incoherency to be part of that, and of the logical leaps he’s had to make in his efforts of self-justification.

I have always suspected Sullivan finds the lack of hard and fast logic… and principle, really, amongst the left, far more comfortable than the hard and fast logic to be found elsewhere, since he would need, anywhere BUT the left, to come to grips with just how far off base his personal choices are with reality.   He can sheild himself from such self-judgments only in the fuzzy logic the left normally employs.

The transformation that so baffles James about Rosie O’Donnel, seems to me of the same mold as that which so totally reshaped Sullivan’s politics.  The trends don’t match in each instance…. similies and comparisons never are exact, of course.  But there’s enough of a trend here to logically raise the question if their motivations for the change James notes, are not similar. So close are they, in fact, that to my mind it’s illogical not to at least ask the question.

Sister Toldjah did what I could not bear to do, watch eight mental midgets pontificate in presidential debate.

Best I can make out the moderator, Brian Wilson, asked all the canidates who many supported Dennis Kucinich bill to impeach Vice President Richard Cheney.   Aside from Cleveland moonbat, none did.

Yes, I know, I’ve not been posting.

It’s been a weird week, which will, if all goes correctly, culimnate in trading in my faithful and much loved Safari conversion van, BitsBox, for a newer truck. Details to follow, and a few pics, if I can manage it.

On May 17, 2006, Jim Miklaszewski and Mike Viqueira, NBC News reported on an alleged massacre in Haditha, and said the story was confirmed by John Murtha:

Military officials told NBC News that the Marine Corps’ own evidence appears to show Murtha is right.

A videotape taken by an Iraqi showed the aftermath of the alleged attack: a blood-smeared bedroom floor and bits of what appear to be human flesh and bullet holes on the walls.

Now the truth emerges.  The Haditha charges were a lie.  The Marines acted in self-defense and Murtha lied:

NewsMax, however, can reveal that the facts of what happened early that November morning clearly show that the incident was part of a planned ambush by insurgent forces, that the civilians tragically killed in the were used as human shields by the insurgents, and that despite claims by Rep. John Murtha, there was indeed an ongoing firefight between the Marines and the enemy.

Bit reported, the since confirmed, rumor that Rosie O’Donnell was leaving the View.   Now Rosie is reporting that Alec Baldwin is leaving the country.  Alas there is joy in Mudville.

“I do not stand alone,” Dennis Kucinich said as he stood, alone, in front of a cluster of microphones yesterday evening.

Or so Dana Milbank reports in the Washington Post.  

It would take what two hundred nineteen votes to pass a bill of impeachment.  While I am not an expert at counting votes, Dennis seems just a wee bit short, of votes.

Will Rosie O’Donnell leave “The View”?

Looks that way. All I can figure is the kitchen’s gotten a little warm.

Actually, Mr. McGovern, I”d say the American people rejected your way of non-thinking back in 1972. And guess what? The link back to the wishful non-thinking nonsense you put up in 72 is exactly what the Democrats are doing today. It was proven wrong then, and that’s not changed. You’re still wrong, both politically, and about the Iraq war.

You just haven’t learned to shut up, then, or since. Well, you’re consistent at least.
Just don’t expect anyone with a brain to buy your nonsense.

This morning, McQ points out a situation in Cleveland where a privately held… and used… firearm saved a man’s life.

Meanwhile, Dizzy Girl points out a situation in her back yard where several members of the family are either dead or in hospital, at the hands of a family member… where no guns were used at all.

And will you please tell me why, given his other rants, I shouldn’t think that what’s got him ranting about rap is the profits being made? Profits, after all, don’t fit into a Marxist ideology.

He makes some valid points so far as he goes in your quote, , but looking at what he says in your quote, within the context of the rest of what he’s been writing the last year or so, a different picture emerges, and frankly it’s one that I guess neither one of us would be comfortable with.

My original comments, as regards him and Yeltsin, hold.  The idea that Yeltsin was an oinker dressed up as a drunk, as I said, was and remains beyond question. He was at best as Taibbi says, an inconsistent reformer.

But in reading more of Taibbi the last day or so,  I’m coming to the conclusion that his problem with Yeltsin had more to do with him being a reformer,  not his inconsistencies.
