Klien on Dobbs

Lou Dobbs apparenly decided not to cave to the pressure from the Clintonistas, and interview Ed Klein.author of the book “THe Truth About Hillary”. Dobbs even went so far as to ask a good question:

DOBBS: Well, let me ask our director something. Do we have a clip of what Billy Graham said this weekend about the Clintons? Can we roll that and -- for the audience and for Ed Klein? I want to get your reaction to what Billy Graham, the noted, wonderful evangelist had to say yesterday, with the Clintons in attendance.

REV. BILLY GRAHAM, EVANGELIST: I thought that when he left the presidency, he should be an evangelist. Because he has all the gifts. And he could leave his wife to run the country.

DOBBS: Billy Graham either read your book or didn't agree with the conclusions. That's a remarkable endorsement, statement of personal affection and regard. Do you believe that Hillary Clinton is, in your judgment, qualified to be president of the United States?

KLEIN: I don't believe in coincidences, and I don't believe that Hillary Clinton was sitting on the stage with the most famous evangelist in America at a time when she's trying to convince the entire country that she believes in God, prayer, family, patriotism, and she isn't a leftist.

Klien also points up the idea that one major reason JPod was so down on Klien’s book is Podhoretz has one coming out, too… which I wasn’t aware of.

Lonsberry has a new truck today.  At the moment, he’s parked one spot away from where Bit’sBox s parked. Nice rig, and one I’d seriously consider, if I didn’t have the tow capacity issues to worry about.

One of the options on Bob’s new truck is XM radio. And as a result of his rather short experience, he’s asking about the future of radio.

And it’s a good question.

Paul Winchel, and John Fiedler, who, were known mostly as the voices of Tigger and Piglet, respectively, died over the weekend. Winchel was 82, Fieldler was 80.

They were each known in other roles, of course.

Winchell attended Columbia University and also studied and practiced acupuncture and hypnosis and became a prolific inventor.

He donated his early artificial heart to the University of Utah for research. Dr. Robert Jarvik and other researchers at the university went on to build an artificial heart, dubbed the Jarvik-7, which was implanted into patients after 1982.

He was also one of the Gargamel on the Smrufs, and a few dozen other cartoon roles.

Fiedler, meanwhile….

..  performed in supporting roles alongside Sidney Poitier on Broadway, John Wayne in Hollywood and Bob Newhart on television.

With Newhart, on "The Bob Newhart Show," he was Mr. Peterson, the meek patient who was often a target for Jack Riley's sarcastic Mr. Carlin.

Fiedler also appeared in the films "12 Angry Men," "The Odd Couple," "True Grit," "The Fortune" and "Sharky's Machine," and was a cast member on the TV show "Buffalo Bill."

It’s one of life’s little hiccups that they should pass on, so close in time to each other, though.

Susan Estrich today raises a few points about Fox News in their defense.

One thing I found interesting:

I've come to expect the jabs at Fox News - because being a liberal, I get more than most. I work there in part because, six or seven years ago, they offered me a better deal than NBC at the time; and because, as a feminist and a Democrat, I think it's particularly important to have a dialogue with people who aren't already members of the same choir ....

Woah, hold it, stop the tape.

Is she really saying here that ABC, NBC and CBS are all members of the leftist choir? An interesting admission, if somewhat weird in the way it’s arrived at.

She does make some salient points, though, and it’s worth a read.

Captain’s Quarters has up a letter form Mike Zimbleman, the brohter of Cory, the guy whose obit granced this space and several others around the ‘Sphere, yesterday.

Zimbleman, in adressing the comments that obit has been getting, from both bloggers and their readers, says, in part:

"I am not pleased with my brother's obituary but at least I know that it was written by a family member who had endured the stress of three weeks watching him die from the effects of brain damage from a probable massive heart attack, while working with doctors to attempt to find some way to save his life. Generally in situations like this an obituary would be tempered by the dispassionate support of a funeral director. In this instance such support was not present (due to choices made by his immediate family on processes following his death) and the obituary as written came directly out of a state of shock and grief."

I wrote back to the Captain:

“I submit to you that in such a state, a person will revert to their core beleifs… It’s as Marshall Foche is famously quoted… “there are no atheists in foxholes.”

As such, while I feel for the family, I’m forced to conclude that their core beliefs are as described, and as such are worthy of the scorn they’ve been getting. You say freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom from criticism. You’re quite right. By the same token, however, is another,matter decided. The idea that we should not speak ill of the dead, if followed htorugh, requires us to lie, which I will not do; Lies are, after all, how nonsense like what was in that obit get printed… and how lies like what that obit contained, are beleived… in the first place, and I won’t be a party to it. You may find worth noting that this is a position I’ve taken some heat for in the past, as you’ll see.”

If you’ve not been looking into these things, you should; they’re a nice diversion.

Look, man…
I don’t think it my job to teach you what the current events are. I consider that readers to this blog are generally already hip to events I’m commenting on.

I assume for example when I say “The Holloway case” or I say “Ed Kline’s book”, my readers understand what I’m talking about.  So to a large degree, it’s sheer repetition to link to MSM reporting of events. It wastes my time typing it in, my reader’s time reading it, my bandwidth, etc, and I won’t do it.

You noted that when I link, it’s more often to a fellow blogger. 
That’s true…

I will link an MSM story if I think it has an angle not many have commented on, or if it’s directly in line with a position I or another blogger has taken.. or at least I consdier a particular quote or a particular angle in the story of particular import.  But why give a run of the mill MSM site a link and the resulting traffic, when I can do the same for a fellow blogger?

There are exceptions of course, usually whena streak of lazy hits me, or time presses here at work.  But in general, you now have your answers.

Captain’s Quarters links reports suggesting the Euro-left is funding Abu Musab al-Zarqawi’s terrorism.

Turns out that far-left groups in western Europe are carrying on a campaign dubbed Ten Euros for the Resistance, offering aid and comfort to the car bombers, kidnappers, and snipers trying to destabilize the fledgling Iraq government. In the words of one Italian website, Iraq Libero (Free Iraq), the funds are meant for those fighting the occupanti imperialisti. The groups are an odd collection, made up largely of Marxists and Maoists, sprinkled with an array of Arab emigres and aging, old-school fascists....

Gee, big shock, huh?

Let’s see, Maoists, Marxists, and old-line facists. Sounds kinda like the French government, doesn’t it? Also sounds like “International ANSWER”, as Ed points out. And guess who’s involved in that rathole up to their eyeballs here in the US? That’s right, the DNC.

Fran says this one pretty well, in regards to the wailing from the Democrats over Rove:

When the Democrats start choosing spokesmen who articulate unabashedly pro-freedom, pro-capitalism, pro-American views,

When Democratic presidential candidates cease to speak of accommodating and negotiating with those who hate us and what we stand for,

When the heavily left-liberal Old Media cease to harp on trivia such as Abu Ghraib and the spate of ridiculous allegations about Camp X-Ray while Muslim savages kill, torture and maim without restraint,

When liberals cease to suffix a "but" clause to every allowance, however pale, that we're the good guys, and frankly and openly state that America deserves to defend itself and its interests with all the powers at its command,

...then your Curmudgeon might grant a nanosecond of consideration to their protests. Not before.

The bottom line here is Rove has hot on a great truth… and an uncomfortable one for the Democrats… particularly in light of Durbin the other day.

I’ve not commented at all on the USSC property rights ruling of yesterday, because frankly, with job and home events, I’ve not had time to read the thing. Boortz, this morning has as good a discussion as I’ve seen thusfar about the property rights ruling from the USSC yesterday. I share his discomfort with the ruling based on what I know of it.

That said, I tend to doubt this will be the last word on this subject from the court. Reaction to USSC rulings on both sides of the isle tends to project worst case scenarios in arguing against or for such rulings, and so it’s not out of line to suspect this is the same situation. I also gather that the justices who voted with the majority weren’t too pleased about it; apparently some entaglement of the local and or state laws, and the limits on the 5th amendment.

Though, I suppose I’ll have a better view of that over the weekend when I get a chance to read the thing.

Afterthought; Consider the similarities between this situation in New London, and the situation of the 60’s and Urban renewal under the Johnson administration.
