The UN Thinks the Cause of Anti Semitism is the Jews

From whom did the U.N. get advice? There was Tariq Ramadan of Switzerland’s Fribourg University, who was denied entry to the U.S. in August on the basis of a law concerning aliens who have used a “position of prominence within any country to endorse or espouse terrorist activity” or are considered a “public safety risk or a national security threat.” But apparently the U.N. thought it was worth listening to the views on racism of someone who said on Sept. 25, 2001, that “[Osama] Bin Laden is perhaps a useful straw man, like Saddam Hussein, whose diabolical representation perhaps serves other geo-strategic, economic or political designs.”

Can someone plese tell me why we’re still making nice with these people? Why are we still in the UN? How many times do they need to prove themselves as useless?

It’s about time Paul Martin grew a spine!
CBC is reporting:

“CBC-OTTAWA – Prime Minister Paul Martin expelled renegade Liberal MP Carolyn Parrish from the party’s caucus on Thursday, citing her “unacceptable” behaviour.

Martin told reporters that while he has defended the controversial MP’s right to speak in the past, he “cannot, as leader of our party and the government caucus, tolerate behaviour that demeans and disrespects others.”

Parrish was the one who called American’s ‘Bastards’ some time ago. I said at the time we should be boycotting Canada. Indeed, I’ve not been back inside Canada since the 9/11 attacks because of the reactions of Canada.

If they’re not supporting us, I will not be supporting them, particularly when I have the choice about where my money goes.

Now, I recognize that many Canadians do not feel the way Parrish does.
Great.

Let’s hear from them. Once I have evidence the tide has turned the other way, I may, as well. Not until. Parrish being gone is a start. But it’s not the whole deal. Not by a longshot.

Dean Esmay seems to agree with my thinking on this one.

And he’s supposed to have the better spam filters, too. Work on the scope of that for a minute.

See? There IS justice after all.

Now just think, Billy boy… had your people done their bloody JOB, you’d have ended up with perhaps a few hundred bits of actual mail per day. As it is, most of what you’re getting is your own security flaws coming back to bite your skinny butt.

Hey, Billy You’re quite right; It is in the end, ideas that matter.

But here’s the thing; The ideas, I think are reflected in the cultural values of each of the areas Greg’s talking about. I think this most recent election was the biggest indication of a cultural war in progress, that we’ve ever had.

And a big part of the denial of the inteligensia is the labeling of the red areas as ‘too stupid to vote’.

I wasn’t quite sure how to react to today’s WSJ column by Peggy Noonan.

I really wasn’t.
I’m still working these thoughts out in my own head as I type this, but I wonder if the Blogging world can take note of the general tone of her words, here.

We on the right side of Blogdom have been working hard and have been sinking our teeth into exposed political flesh at a nearly non-stop rate. Having vanquished that foe, we look rather like the proverbial Kligon warrior, still in the heat of the battle, and still seeking other challangers, we turn on anything that moves…  including fellow warriors who until the recent victory, were fighting alongside us.

Bloggers, over the last few years, have developed the habit of jumping with both feet into the soup… a good habit to have when it’s needful.  But it’s now down to pausing for a few minutes and catching our collective breath.

Even Matt Drudge, who arguably is out on the bleeding edge of blogdom, has had pretty much the same page content for around the last 24 hours… something not seen since before the primary season.

Noonan points to Arlan Spector. I cannot, in all honesty view Spector with a less than wary eye, these days. Nor, I think, should you.

Her larger point remains true however; Stop fighting for a few moments… we’ve won. Let’s re-assess our situation before striking out in a new direction.

The absolute Republican majority we now have is not a position we’ve been in, before, in any of our lifetimes. Yes, there are problems with this, and Spector clearly is one major problem. But we need to slow down, and plan our steps carefully, lest we lose our footing in two years.

A few days ago, I commented on the Presdient’s nomination of Dr. Rice as the new secretary of state. Neal Boortz today, echoes my comments…  and expands on them, including copies of a couple of the rather racist editoral cartoons being used by the Democrats against Dr. Rice.

PunditGuy is there to record…

All Americans, particularly the left, would do very well indeed to read Tony Blair’s speech at the Lord Mayor’s Banquet. A few highlights:

…. I know one thing. If we were under direct threat, America would be our ally. I know that its people enjoy, as we have seen, a vibrant competitive democracy; and that in America, Hispanics, blacks, Asians and former Europeans live together, worship in their different ways and can rise from the bottom to the top in a manner we could do well to emulate. I didn’t agree with Michael Moore’s film. But in America he was able to make it and be praised for it. This is called freedom. We are in danger of forgetting these simple truths.

If America were to pull up the drawbridge, retreat from its obligations and alliances abroad, the terrorists would attack the rest of us. They are not interested in America as America. They are interested in America as the most powerful actor in pursuit of beliefs they fear as much as we value them.

And if America did withdraw: if when Kosovo came up, they said no; told us to sort out Al Qaida in Afghanistan ourselves; said we could tackle nuclear proliferation on our own, where would we be? Would China be ready to fill the space? Or Russia? Or India, great though those nations are and strong though our modern partnership with them is?

We are not fighting with America in Iraq because we are their allies. We are their allies because we believe that their fight against terrorism is our fight too; because if they fail, we fail; because their way of life and ours is lit by the same light of freedom, the same love of democracy, the same fellowship of reason.

If we in Europe ever need final convincing of this, talk to the recent democracies of central and Eastern Europe; tell them we are indifferent to the American alliance and see in their shiver of apprehension the most significant argument for us maintaining it.

Ya know, I can’t help but wonder a bit ifThe Clinton Library opening would be such a big deal had America been stupid enough to let Kerry actually win the election.  I mean look at the partiers down there. 

They’d all have had to make a choice between the party on the south lawn of the WH and the party in Little Rock at what the construction workers call ‘the trailer’. (With some justification… Look at the thing! There is justice in the world after all. The trailer park trash president gets a library befitting him!)

As it is, all the usual suspects descended onto Little Rock. I kept waiting for reports of knife fights breaking out…. (Not enough rappers at the opening day festival, I guess…) …Or of free kneepads, or blue dresses to female celebrants. Do I have to think of EVERYTHING?

Noting that Sullivan is now making noises about the Flat tax proposal, Ace of Spades HQ notes of Sullivan:

I think he’s in full scurry-back-the-right mode now. That bandwidth fund of his must be just about depleted.

Anything that makes me chuckle for five minutes is a serious contender for Blog of the week… and Ace is it this week.

So, I’m hearing these last few days about how Muslims are all bent out of shape because our Marines are known to have shot some insurgents in Mosques. I find it hard to get overly excited by the complaint. Thing is, a lot of our military are somewhat miffed at being shot from the Mosques. It all evens out, that way.

Oh, speaking of such matters.. did you notice that Margaret Hassan was killed by Islamic Terrorists yesterday? If you didn’t, no shock; the press hasn’t been playing it up much. Shot her in the face at close range, as I gather it.

Hassan, you may recall was an English woman who had devoted her life to helping Iraqis.

But her death doesn’t get nearly the coverage of one Marine shooting an insurgent Terrorist in the head… one who was likely already dead, and if not, was an attacker, waiting for a chance to strike out at said Marine.

Ask yourself; why the different levels of coverage? More, why the different levels of outrage? I mean, here we have a press clearly demonstrating itself to be more concerned over the life of one terrorist, than they are about the life of at least two someones who are dedicated to making the situation in Iraq better…. Ms Hassan, and the Marine in question.

Perhaps the question is more correctly asked; Whose side are the press on, hmmmmm?

As if we don’t both know the answer to that one.

Is it just me, or do other people get creeped ot a bit when viewing tapes of meetings on C-Span that were recorded in the few weeks prior to 9/11/01?

Personally, I’d be interested and consider it a public service, were they to run tapes of people in politics arguing for reducing our intel budgets, and spending that money on social programs.

TORONTO (Reuters) –Tens of thousands of people in Eastern Canada could be without electricity until the end of the week, officials said on Monday, after an early winter blizzard downed power lines and crumpled transmission towers.

Up to 50 cm (20 inches) of heavy, wet snow blanketed Nova Scotia over the weekend, leaving more than 100,000 homes and businesses without power and temporarily shutting down Halifax International Airport.

Been there, done that, still got the frostbite. Still, if this goes on much longer, I wonder what political impact this will have. Maratimers are not noted for political patience.

I was on my way out the door an hour ago… on my way to a quickly arranged lunch date with my wife. (See also, “The Monday After“, in yesterday’s postings)

On my way out of the shop, I passed through Midtown Plaza, since I park under Midtown. While doing so, I happend to hear a song on the store speakers; Oddly, it was one I’d been playing at my own desk’s MP3 player just prior to leaving… Weather Report’s “Birdland”, off the “Heavy Weather” album. I know the album well, having owned it for years and having played it on the air several times when I was doing jazz radio, years ago.

All this led me to the thought; You know you’re in serious trouble with age, when music you grew up with gets moved into the area of Muzak. This is particularly true when the music is considered cutting edge jazz for the day. (sigh)

Good Lord!! Have things moved on that much? At what point did I lose track of the process?  You could hear my bones creaking and groaning as I walked down to my truck.

I met my wife at home, and we had a nice lunch together… (Chinese)… It’s good to remind yourself why you’re working, once in a while. We gave each other a hug, and started back toward work, each in our own vehicle… me in Bit’s Box, and her in her Escape. 

Some time ago, I wrote in these spaces about Niagara Falls, which is about 70 miles west of here. The Falls has, over the years, taken on the quality of an old freind for us; We who know all it’s secrets don’t conisder it a real vacation spot for us… it’s more like a day trip, if we bother going at all. I wrote at the time that the real kick for me these last number of years when going there for a day, was the way strangers, particularly people who have never seen the the area before, react to the sights and sounds of the Falls and all that it is, there. Often, it’s in the eyes of strangers or the young, that well-known things take on a newness, a freshness, that have long been… welllll… ordinary. Some people report Christmas is like that, too, for them… and looking at it through the eyes of children is their way of refreshing their point of view.

I had a similar experience with my wife today.

Leaving home following lunch, we both needed gas, and so went to the local gas station on our way out to the freeway. After that we’d go seperate ways, given we each work on opposite ends of town. While standing there pumping gas, each in our own lane, I noted the guy with the pickup in front of me checking my beautiful wife out as she took care of her fuel, next island over. She, of course, never noticed it, but I did. He had no way of knowing who she was, or who I was for that matter. Had he known who I was, I doubt he’d have done it. As it was, I let him look, and kept my thoughts and comments to myself.

Sometimes though the eyes of strangers…

I glanced over and it came to me…. Yep; that’s a pretty girl, all right.

Of course, she would think I was a liar was I to tell her of it. (Shrug) In any event, it was a reminder that perhaps I’m not doing so badly after all. No doubt about it… I got lucky with this girl.

Apparently, I was more right than I knew, yesterday; It’s those stolen moments that make it worthwhile for us.
