Dan McCarthy over at the New York Post:
Just months ago a travesty was taking place in the nation’s capital as the Biden administration drew to a close.
On his way out the door, President Joe Biden commuted the sentences of more than 4,000 federally incarcerated offenders.
Only it wasn’t Biden issuing the record-shattering number of commutations — it was his autopen.
“There was a mad dash to find groups of people that he could then pardon — and then they largely didn’t run it by the Justice Department to vet them,” a source told the DC insider publication Axios. While Biden claimed the last-minute blizzard of pardons and commutations was for “nonviolent” drug offenders, a trove of administration emails obtained by The Oversight Project and first reported on by the New York Post’s Josh Christenson tell a different story.
“I think you should stop saying that because it is untrue or at least misleading,” Associate Deputy Attorney General Brad Weinsheimer warned in a Jan. 18 email.
McCarthy brings up a historical perspective…. the last time this kind of thing went down was with fellow Democrat Woodrow Wilson (a truly terrible person) Students of history will recall the clearly unconstitutional response to the problem, where his wife took over running things because Wilson himself, was in the land of La-La.
We can speculate, I suppose, on who was actually running things, (Was Jill trying to take over? Was it a collective of staffers? Was this solution put into play because of the obvious lack of qualifications in Kamala Harris?) ….but regardless what answer you come up with, the answer exposes unconstitutional acts… which is likely why no answers to that question are publicly forthcoming.
It’s interesting to note that the Democrats and the Never Trumpers in the GOP who were so keen to invoke the 25th amendment as a response to their angst over Donald Trump… who showed none of the incapacity Biden did, failed to even mention that solution to Biden’s incapacity. Clearly they didn’t want to either turn the reins over to Cackles McKneepads, or some to any solution that would jeopardize the Democrat hold on political power.
The thing is, whoever it was who was actually running things, is still out there, unpunished. The question for the voters is, who can they hold accountable for this clearly unconstitutional action? McCarthy correctly points out in his piece:
What happened under Biden was a coup, and it’s not mitigated by the fact that Democrats committed a coup against an incapable president of their own party.
The autopen is meant to represent the president, not take his place.
