NJ Gov McGreevey (D) to Resign

WNBCis reporting that:

“McGreevey, a former prosecutor, came into office vowing to end corruption, but in recent months a number of his political aides and fundraisers have been accused of corruption ranging from alleged payoffs to hiring a prostitute.”

Read the whole article. Notice that nowhere in here does it mention what Party McGreevey is from.  Now, since if this were a Republican, the first question being floated by the Press would be how badly this would hurt the chances of George W. Bush…. the lack of such comments… or even mentioning he’s a Democrat.. of course means, he IS a Democrat.

I must confess I’d not been following the developments out in NewJersey. But as I gather it from a freind down in New York, this is someone whose staff are under investigation ever since Jump Street.

According to my source… (now confirmed on the news wires) one of his campaign fund raisers was hiring prostitutes… not for himself, apparently, but rather to blackmail people who would ahve been federal witnesses against McGreevey and his staff. Additionally, there have been several corruption allegations made against himself and his staff.

Something of a pattern is developing here. At the top of the ticket, we have John Kerry, who figures his making a lot of noise about being a ‘nam vet will help make all the rest of the problems disappear. Now, we have McGreevey, who, apparently figures the way out of all of his problems is to wave the pink flag, and scoot?

Amazing. I expect we’ve not heard the last of this one.

Update II: The calls have started to come to resign NOW… says the Trenton Times;

“Gov. James E. McGreevey announced yesterday that he will resign his office effective Nov. 15 “to facilitate a responsible transition.”

Baloney. This governor is conning us yet again. What he means is that he intends to stall his departure for two months to ensure that the Democratic Party keeps control of the governorship until the end of 2005.

That’s unacceptable. Gov. McGreevey should resign at once. If there is any truth to his assurances that he cares about the well-being of the state of New Jersey, he will pack up and go.

The Star-Ledger agrees, saying in part:

“The people of New Jersey will be sorting out the truth for quite a while now. But certainly they weren’t told the full story — “the truth” — yesterday. “

This story is an onion… it has to be peeled away in layers. The first part to be peeled away is the usual levels of deception that is involved when Democrats are in power in the first place.

And then, there’sthe press and it’s proto-typical reaction. Several news articles I’ve seen in smaller papers refer to McGreevey as being wildly unpopular, yet papers like the New York Times and NY local talk radio, and the major broadcast outlest like CNN and PMSNBC continue to paint public opinion as backing him solidly.

The Associated Press says:

“SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The California Supreme Court ruled unanimously Thursday that San Francisco’s mayor overstepped his authority by issuing same-sex marriage licenses this spring. The court also voided all the marriages of gay and lesbian couples sanctioned by the city.”

Update:

Additional reality, in the form of a comment from Byron over at Slings and Arrows . He allows as how there were 4000 “couples” who paid $83 bucks each, which comes out to $332k that the city took illegally.

He asks if they’d planned to give it back, now. Nothing in the ruling, so I wonder.

Ed at Captain’s Quarters makes an interesting point as a part of a larger post… One he himself downplays given that this idea I’ve culled from his post seems buried in the rest of it, but it seems worth some serious thought…

Now that we’ve determined that Bush didn’t lie, that he represented the intelligence given to him accurately, will the Left hold John Kerry to the same standard? He lied about his Cambodian missions in order to lend credence to his testimony about witnessing systematic atrocities by American servicemen in Viet Nam, leading to our withdrawal — and the genocide that followed.

Kerry lied, millions died. Millions died.

Is that the leadership that the Left endorses?”

It’s true, Gang… Think about it for a second… Does anyone think that Pol Pot would have been able to have done what he did, had the US not pulled out of the region? And why did the US pull out? It was, at least in part, responding to the false descriptions of atrocities spewed by Kerry. How many people died as a result of Kerry’s lies, therefore?

Millions.

Apparenly this was precipatated by an appearence by Jeh Johnson on FNC’s FOX AND FREINDS this monring, and this exchange between Johnson and co-host Brian Kilmeade:

JOHNSON: John Kerry has said on the record that he had a mistaken recollection earlier. He talked about a combat situation on Christmas Eve 1968 which at one point he said occurred in Cambodia. He has since corrected the recorded to say it was some place on a river near Cambodia and he is certain that at some point subsequent to that he was in Cambodia. My understanding is that he is not certain about that date.

KILMEADE: I think the term was he had a searing memory of spending Christmas – back in 1986 in the senate floor in Cambodia.

JOHNSON: I believe he has corrected the record to say it was some place near Cambodia he is not certain whether it was in Cambodia but he is certain there was some point subsequent to that that he was in Cambodia.

With the exception of the Cambodian Christmas thing, and the recent soap opera shouting macth with his wife, both of which are noted below…not much going on on the Kerry front today, at least in the public eye. Looks like he’s trying to keep his head down. His people have doubtless told the man to STFU, ’cause he’s only hurting himself when he doesn’t. Odd, how the only way to get a Democrat elected is to hide his true nature.

Speaking of storms, I’m watching Florida.

Meanwhile, Dubya has a new ad up, and that looks good. No shock that there’s nothing in the press about it.

OK, that didn’t take quite so long as I thought. Turns out I was missing only one line of code from a block of it that I’d stolen from my old CSS. Looks like it works OK.

OK, I guess I’m not to shocked that not everything is working.
I turned on Blogger commenting, only to find the trackback system of Haloscan wouldn’t work with it. So, I reinstalled Haloscan, and now THAT isn’t working either.

Lemme see what i can do today. I’ll be posting pretty much as usual, but i’ll also be looking at the CSS to see what I need to do. With any luck, I should have it all working in the next day or so.

Haloscan commenting and trackback have been added to this blog.

After fooling with the templates for a few days, I think I’ve got it close enough to put the new look for BitsBlog online. The result is what you see. It’s a little cleaner and a lot faster in loading.

It’s not done yet, of course… there’s the trackback stuff to deal with… it’s not online yet.

And I likely have formatting issues; the biggest GIF/JPG file I can call out in this template of 400 px wide.

One thing I did do was to move from Haloscan’s commenter system to Blogger’s… in an effort to try and eliminate the 1k limit per comment that Haloscan used. Only problem is, it fouls up trackback, so I’m going back to Haloscan. This may lose me all the comment so far, and it may not. We’ll see.

Well, it’s appears that it’s all another Kerry Lie. Licorice called a press conference today, and … Well.. Poisoning pigeons has the details.

OK, Its a JOKE, gang… God knows Kerry sets up a target rich environment…

And anyway.. what did you expect from someone who names a blog after a Classic Tom Lehrer tune?

Chris Lawrence over at Signifying Nothing weighs in on the issue of allowing OSCE monitors for the election.

Like Chris, I’m not overly worried. Yes, I understand very well indeed that OSCE represents a group of people… Europe… who would love to get a leftist in power here in the States.

Yet, I look at this as a double edged sword. If there’s people out there looking for corruption, who knows what they’ll find… like the 130% turnout for Gore in some areas of Phily during the 2000 election… which was found WITHOUT the OSCE being here.

And if the OSCE is overtly biased against the right, well, they’ll expose that for all to see as well, given that they won’t be the only ones monitoring. There will be people watching the watchers, as it were.

OSCE may be a corruption issue of itself, and it may not. But I don’t think they’re quite so bold, nor quite so stupid, regardless of what they want, vis a vie our government here in the US.

Rochester’s Democrat & Chronicle, otherwise known to the local populace here in my home town as the Chronic Democrat, is running a story you’ll find of interest.

“(August 7, 2004) — It was bad enough, Asif Iqbal said, when he only had to deal with airline hassles.
But now, Iqbal — who shares a name with a former terrorist suspect — has new hassles. Earlier this week, the CBS Evening News ran a story about the terrorist suspect, but ran the photo of the local Iqbal, a 31-year-old software consultant who lives in Pittsford.”

Pittsford is a fairly well-to-do eastern bedroom of the City of Rochester, so this guy isn’t exactly in the poorhouse. I expect he’s got some legal muscle, here.
