Borking Ted Olson

The Wall Street Journal,  on Dirty Harry Reid’s threat to Bork Ted Olson:

Is Mr. Reid saying that a Republican President can’t nominate any Republican as Attorney General? Or does he mean that President Bush can only nominate a certain kind of Republican–namely one who agrees with the Senate Democratic agenda, or short of that one who can be easily rolled?

Is this a Bork too far, or will Dirty Harry succeed?   I think the former.   While Robert Bork was an outstanding jurist, he had that horrid goatee, the threatenng crouch and the personality of Oscar the Grouch.  Further Senator Oldsmobile did not have to contront the Web.

Ted Olson has none of Bork’s off-putting personality traits.   Senator Oldmobile tried to demonzed Bork, and for his part, Bork played the role of a demon    Olson simply will not play that role for Dirty Harry.    He simply be what he is, a nice guy who is  one the top lawyers in the nation.

If I remember correctly, Clive Davis actually wrote the liner notes for that debut LP, and stated that they were the first full tilt rock and roll band Arista had signed… which may have been a promotionally intended choice of words looking back on it. I’ve still got the LP around here… I’ll have to dig it out. The CD was  near useless as no matter for reading the liner notes.

I already wrote of that album a few years ago, listing The Outlaws as on my top ten guitar heroes list.

Well, after a day or so more downtime, and a year or so off my life, we’re back online again.

Turns out a YOUTUBE plugin we were trying made the site vulnerable to a database attack. Yes, the same so and so’s in Argentina.

I’ll get into this further in the tomorrow, (And there’s lots to tell) but for now, I’m off to bed. If I don’t get my two hours sleep a night, I get cranky. And trust me, you don’t want Uncle Bithead cranky.

Let there be no doubt in anyone’s mind where this “Investiate 9/11 Troofer” nonsense is coming from:

HAVANA (Reuters) – Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro said the U.S. government misinformed Americans and the world about 9/11, echoing conspiracy theories about the terror attacks against the United States six years ago.

In an essay read by a Cuban television presenter on Tuesday night, Castro said the Pentagon was hit by a rocket, not a plane, because no traces were found of its passengers.

“Today one knows there was deliberate misinformation,” wrote Castro, who has not appeared in public since July of 2006 when life-threatening surgery for a secret illness forced him to hand over power to his brother Raul Castro.

“Studying the impact of planes, similar to those that hit the Twin Towers, that had accidentally fallen on densely populated cities, one concludes that it was not a plane that crashed into the Pentagon,” Castro said.

The Boston Globe this morning reports:As fog shrouded the State House steps, Governor Deval Patrick led a solemn ceremony this morning to mark the sixth anniversary of Sept. 11, calling the terrorist attacks of 2001 “a failure of human understanding.””We meet to honor the lives of the 206 sons and daughters of our community who were lost six years ago,” Patrick told a group of 200 people, including officials and victims’ relatives, gathered at the flag pole on the Capitol lawn. “Our tribute is for each of them, and our condolences are with each of you.”While “The Star-Spangled Banner” was sung, the flag was raised to the top of the pole and then slowly lowered halfway back down. Two men played “Taps” on trumpets.A crowd of 75 onlookers gathered at the bottom of the steps, watching the ceremony from the opposite side of the black, wrought-iron fence.

Well, that figures… the moral equivalence nonsense still prevails among Democrats, apparently. Idiots.

Radio Equalizer notes the same story and reports that Howie Carr’s show was quite busy afterwards.

Hours later, local talker Howie Carr pounced on the governor for his poor choice of words, which strongly implied the United States at least partly brought 9-11 upon itself. Callers quickly joined in to denounce Patrick.

As well they should.

Carr, by the way, is in the last week of his show at 680/WRKO. Rumor has it, he will be moving to 96.9/WTKK, Boston’s FM talker. How that situation plays into Carr’s outrage, I’m not sure, (publicity in a move situation is usually desirable, after all) but knowing him, he’d do it anyway. And in this case, he’s quite correct.

And you know…  when you see the Boston Herald agree…

If only Osama bin Laden had been hugged more as a child.

If only the 19 wild-eyed jihadists who hijacked our airplanes and murdered 3,000 of our brothers and sisters six years ago had some kind of “human understanding” of the people they set out to systematically torture and kill.

Then, Gov. Deval Patrick, would we all be sitting around together sipping tea?

We’d like to believe that a few of Patrick’s lines at yesterday’s 9/11 memorial ceremony at the State House were the product of first-time jitters, or perhaps a truly clueless speechwriter.

Unfortunately, the governor’s fuzzy recollection of that terrifying day seems to be in keeping with a certain “blame us” mentality that so many of his supporters embrace, along with a failure to acknowledge the continuing threat of evil that Americans face.

Indeed. Now, when the Herald can actually have the guts to say  not just Deval Patrick’s supporters, but DEMOCRATS, they may actually cut close enough to the truth to be of use.

In a concession to Republicans, House Oversight Committee Chairman Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.) has promised to ask the National Archives for documents relating to President Bill Clinton’s Office of Political Affairs.

As a result, a Democratic push to investigate the activities of former White House senior adviser Karl Rove and other aides to President Bush could mean fresh scrutiny and publicity for long-forgotten meetings and presentations during the Clinton administration.

Yeah, well forgive me, Mike, but this strikes me as about as fair as the sheep finally being granted an investigation of the wolves and their long-term abuses. It also strikes me that enough documentation went out by way of the Sandy Berger Pantsleg Express, that such investigations even if above board, would reveal nothing anyway. And trust me, if he’s agreeing to it, it’ll cost him nothing.
The bottom line, here: Waxman gets to make himself out as being ‘fair and open’ when he’s nothing of the kind.

OMG… Ya know, there are times when one wonders what people initially see in each other, that gets lost enough to get into this kind of thing:

SPARTANBURG —(Charlston.Net)  A dispute between a husband and his estranged wife Monday ended with both dead and their 11-month-old child injured, authorities said.

The couple began arguing after the man showed up at a home to return their child after a weekend visitation. The two were supposed to meet somewhere else, sheriff’s spokesman Maj. Dan Johnson said.

Chamaiporn Chongpatana, 27, was stabbed at least 15 times and shot once, said Robin Forrest, an investigator with the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy has been set for Tuesday for Xao Steve Zang, 39, Forrest said. Police said it appeared he also was stabbed and shot.

The shot that hit Chongpatana went through the leg of the child she was holding, Forrest said.

Out of curiosity, I looked at the Court Docket for Spartansburg… and I find that they were in Family courtfor 15 minutes on August the 7th. So whatever was going on was likley an extension of whatever drove them into the court system in the first place. For all the good court system did them.

I know what frustration can drive people to… believe me, I know. But still….(Shake of the head)

Well, that’s good news….

BUFFALO, N.Y. —AP Kevin Everett voluntarily moved his arms and legs on Tuesday when partially awakened, prompting a neurosurgeon to say the Buffalo Bills’ tight end would walk again — contrary to the grim prognosis given a day before.

“Based on our experience, the fact that he’s moving so well, so early after such a catastrophic injury means he will walk again,” said Dr. Barth Green, chairman of the department of neurological surgery at the University of Miami school of medicine.

“It’s totally spectacular, totally unexpected,” Green told The Associated Press by telephone from Miami.

Unexpected isn’t the half of it.  He’s not out of the woods yet, but he’s a heck of a lot better off than he was. 930/WBEN is reporting:

On Monday, Bills orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Andrew Cappuccino, said Everett likely wouldn’t walk again.

“A best-case scenario is full recovery, but not likely,” said Cappuccino, who operated on the reserve tight end. “I believe there will be some permanent neurologic deficit.”

Cappuccino and officials at Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital did not immediately return several messages left with them by The AP.

In a report Tuesday evening, Buffalo’s WIVB-TV quoted Cappuccino as saying: “We may be witnessing a minor miracle.”

Bills owner Ralph Wilson said the team has been in contact from the beginning with Green and the Miami Project, the university’s neurological center that specializes in spinal cord injuries and paralysis.

Everett’s agent, Brian Overstreet, also said Everett’s mother told him the player moved his arms and legs when awakened from a deeply sedated sleep.

In celebration of twenty-five years of the Useless Toady, the paper runs this sob piece by DeWayne Wickham, “25 years of gains, and retreats, on civil rights.”   Wickhan is offensive by intent:

As enthralled as I was by that moment, I was enraged by what the criminal justice system did to Latasha Harlins and Amadou Diallo. In 1992, a Korean grocer was convicted of voluntary manslaughter for firing a fatal shot into the back of the head of Harlins, a 15-year-old black girl whom she had mistakenly suspected of trying to steal a bottle of orange juice. A white judge gave the grocer five years probation and 400 hours of community service. Diallo was an African immigrant who was killed when four white undercover New York City cops fired 41 shots at him in 1999. The officers said that Diallo had behaved suspiciously and that they opened fire when they mistakenly thought he was reaching for a gun. A jury acquitted the cops after the judge told them to see the case from the officers’ perspective, not Diallo’s.

Who did what to Amandou Diallo,  a man who resembled a serial rapist, was an immigrant from Africa who did not speak English, likely did not understand a police order to stop and who made a threatening move.   Of course the jury was supposed to try to see the crime from the perspective of the police officers.   They were on trial for what they did and not for who they did it to.

Wickham decribess minorties as victims as much as he can.   What Wickhan fails is to mention minorites as the villians, like the professsional race merchants like Al Sharpton.

Or as murders, Wickham omits the greatest set back to race relations in this country in life the last twenty-five years.  It was a crime where a black man, O.J. Simpson, murdered both a white woman, Nicole Brown Simpson and white man, Ronald Goldman and was acquited by a largely black jury, who only feigned deliberation for a mere four hours.

One of the real legends of jazz has died:

VIENNA, Austria -AP- Joe Zawinul, the jazz keyboardist who soared to fame as one of the creators of jazz-rock fusion with the band Weather Report, has died, a hospital official said. He was 75.

Zawinul died early Tuesday, a spokeswoman for Vienna’s Wilhelmina Clinic said, without giving details. He had been hospitalized since last month and suffered from a rare form of skin cancer, said Risa Zincke, his manager, according to the Austria Press Agency .

• So Dennis Kucinich is now on Syrian television talking about the” illegal occupation” of Iraq.  Granted, that the guy is an all out nut case.  But explain to me, how the blathering of this stool sample are any different than the supposed mainstream media, or the supposed mainstream Democrats… such as MoveOn, for example.  One is left inevitably with the conclusion that they are all night cases , who should be fitted for rubber rooms as soon as humanly possible.  Here’s a hint; when you sound like yOne our party’s resident fruit fly, it’s time to seriously are reassessed your position.
• Speaking of Nut cases, I see Cindy Sheehan was among those arrested at the Petraeus hearing, yesterday. will somebody please tell me how in the world she managed to get anywhere near the place?
• What is it about being a talkshow host on Boston’s WBZ/1030 ? First they lost Brudnoy,  to AIDS, and now they’ve lost Paul Sullivan to Brain Cancer, says Scott Fybush. Sullivan was good.. likley why he replaced Bruds a few years ago. Sad.
• As I predicted to you the day Fred Thompson officially declared, he is now in the lead amongst those running for the Republican nomination for president, Or so reports Rasmussen. Good.  This won’t take long.
• DefenseLink is reporting that all the services met or exceeded last month’s recruiting goals.  This is interesting to me, given that the reports are that the army and marines did the best in terms of making their goals.  Interesting, because it seems logical that these are the ones who are going directly to Iraq…  do not pass go, do not collect $200.00.
• I wasn’t posting, the day we were attacked six years ago.  As a matter of fact it took me several hours to get to the point where I could write about it at all. Not only was the story moving very quickly, but I was having trouble sorting my own thoughts out about it.  But you might be interested in what I was riding through that. Here’s a sample.
• Here in new York, the corruption of democrats knows no bounds, particularly when their power.  Governor Elliot Spitzer is no exception.  Fred Dicker has been keeping track of this stuff.  It seems that the good governor, and his staff, have been engaging in precisely the same kind of behavior he was prosecuted not so long ago.  Always assuming of course, that the people engaged in the activity were not Democrats.
• I mentioned yesterday, an article on Blue Crab Boulevard, comparing the MoveON ad to Joe McCarthy and his over the top moment.  James Joyner has made note of Peter Feaver making pretty much the same point.

Now if by Olbermann’s own standards, he is Un-American, who I am to argue?
