 Color Susan Estrich green with envy.  It seems the only explanation for her hit piece on Fred Thompson.  Evidently Fred failed to hit on Estrich during his dating days.  So Estrich is striking back in the only way she know how.

 Fred Thompson, would-be presidential candidate, is 64 years old and looks it. His wife, Jeri, is two years younger than one of his daughters and looks even younger than her 40 years.

There have been pictures of the buxom and beautiful Jeri Thompson circulating on the Web for months. Last weekend, the story broke into the mainstream media when The New York Times asked whether the country was ready for a president with a “trophy wife.”

Presidential canidate with trophy wives are not are.  John Kerry has one, for reasons of money, but neither youth nor looks.  However Teresa Heinz is loaed, with money, a reported circa one billion.

Then how far are the democrats going to get in battle of spouses?   Mrs. Clinton is married to a serial cad and rapist.

“Is there not a moral obligation of the United States to make sure that the Iraqi people are safe before the U.S. withdraws?” ABC News’ Jake Tapper asked Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid yesterday. As Mr. Tapper summarized the exchange, “I tried to get an answer… I did not succeed.”

Mr. Reid’s response to this very reasonable question was to dodge here, dodge there, and never answer directly. He cited Iraqi opinion polls showing that 69 percent of Iraqis feel less safe because of the U.S. presence. He cited the war’s cost of many billions and the 600 dead Americans in the last six months. “That’s enough,” Mr. Reid said. “With all due respect, Senator, you didn’t answer my question,” responded Mr. Tapper. Mr. Reid’s final response: “OK. This is not a debate.” Indeed, real debate is the last thing Mr. Reid and the growing pro-withdrawal caucus wants.

The reason for that, as the editorial goes on to point out, is that the Democrats in reality have no plans for how to deal with the situation. They haven’t even made an attempt at putting together some kind of strategic plan. None. Their argument, therefore, is completely in line with what their advisers have been telling them; “forget facts and figures, stick with the emotional. ”

The Democrats, certainly have the TV on their side, as I predicted when we get involved in Iraq and the first place. You’ll recall, that the time I projected this was going to be a year’s long struggle, possibly a decade’s long struggle. I remarked at the time, that the overt Democrat support for our actions in Iraq, was going to dwindle away. So it did, particularly when they saw a political opportunity to make their opposition look bad on an emotional appeal.
True to form, the Democrats, far from actually having a fact based plan to deal with the situation, lean on the emotional aspects to garner support. The philosophy appears to be the same as drives the constant mantra chant of “It’s for the Children”.

We should continue pressuring the senator Harry Reid to explain to the American people what is plan is. I think him morally obligated, if he finds such faults with that of the people who are, by means of the constitution, actually in charge of the military, and foreign policy, which is to say the President of the United States and his representatives in the military (in this case, the joint chiefs and their appointees ) then he should be providing us with what he thinks to be a more workable plan, if he really wants us to supersede that constitutional authority.

Let’s look at what the Democratic leadership wants us to do.

Postulate a group of soldiers, withdrawing from the field of battle as quickly as possible without any plan, without any concern about winning, without any concern of the safety of the people left behind, simply withdrawing, as quickly as possible, from the field of battle, without a plan.

Would that not be considered “cut and run”?

That’s precisely what the Democrats are urging us to do. Somehow, that kind of leadership strikes me as wanting.

Leftard hysteria department:  The lads and lassies at Think Progress,  are refering to the Jake Tapper piece as  the “ABC Hit Piece On Reid,”   I mean Tapper asks Dirty Harry a question, which can be answered a simple yes or no,  which Reid refuses to answer, and Think Progess calls it a “Hit Piece.”

You know what? I guess in the end, I don’t really have a problem with all of this, so long that it stays in such places as Kuala Lumpur. Saudi Arabia.  Wherever.  It’s their culture, let them deal with it as they see fit.  As I have said often enough and these spaces, the first duty of any government, is to support and nurture the culture which gave the life.
But you know, I do have to wonder how long it’s going to be before this film would be banned in Britain, for the same reason, given the population balance we see over there now.. Where “Mohammed” is the most popular boy’s name for new births in the United Kingdom.  And I wonder how much of that, is due to the government in the UK, failing in that first duty.

• The first time I ever heard Sheryl Crow’s “All I wanna do” was when I was driving down Santa Monica Blvd in LA… also for the first time. That’s an event that you never forget if you’re from the other end of the country.  It had just broken on the LA stations at the time, which pretty much dates the event. The lyrics made the moment, as you may imagine. I just caught it on one of the local stations here… and I can’t help being disappointed that she turned out to be so abysmal, politically speaking. Then again, I remember that most of the political talk shows out there were pretty abysmal as well.  So, I guess I should have expected it.
• I was pleased to find an old friend in my mailbox , a couple of days ago.  How they managed to fit him in there, I don’t know, but there he was.  Turns out he has a blog… The Conservative Reader. And so I’m happy to add Art Smith’s Conservative Reader to my Blogroll.
• It has been said often enough, that Al Gore has the personality of a cigar store Indian.  So, does that make Tipper Gore a tree hugger?
• By way of Improved Clinch I see we have a great show planned come August… the Meteor showers, known as the Perseids, will be happening. Usually, when they come along we try to find a lakeshore campsite… Say, Lake Erie State Park, or perhaps Lakeside or Hamlin. Kinda like a drive in movie, only the screen is straight up, and the show starts a lot later. John says the show is set for August 12th, which will be the new moon. We’ll likely go on the 11th, which would be a Saturday. The moon shouldn’t be much of an issue that night. You watch; it’ll rain.
• Michelle, I have to tell you, Tancredo showing up to the NAACP “Debate” was as good a sign of desperation on his part as any recorded thus far in this election cycle.  At the risk of being crude, it’s called backside kissing.  Increasingly, the NAACP has less relevance to America and Americans.  Why on earth would you want to give such an organization credibility… to is precisely which are doing when you show up to such an event?  I would think the rabble rousing that Julian bond engaged in, at the lead into the event, should have been a clue that winning hearts and minds in that venue is an impossibility.  At least, it was to everybody but Tancredo.
• Mike Huckabee has on his sleeve and making visits to the School of Our Lady of the Blatantly Obvious.  His comment?  Michael Moore, known hereabouts as the Great Rotundo for his consistent ability to magically make lies into “truth”, is a great example of why the American health system is in the shape it’s currently in.  Huckabee gets creds from here, but I can’t help noting his comments closely echo those made by PETA the other day.
• So now, we have a peace activist, calling for the death of a president? Peacefully, no doubt.  Now, why we didn’t see this when Clinton invaded Bosnia would seem an open question.  Perhaps it isn’t peace they’re after, just political power.
• I commend this article from Michael Gerson to your reading. Anyone who has the guts to, on the opening line of an op-ed in a MSM outlet , quote Chesterton of all people, has got something going for them.
• I see Boris Johnson the Tory MP is planning on running in the London Mayoral contest, against Red Ken. Now that would be a nice change.
• I see where Dirty Dingle is proposing a 50¢ per gallon “carbon tax” on gasoline. That period of time, between the time he actually makes that proposal in Congress, and the time he almost makes it to his getaway vehicle, will be most entertaining.
• Has anybody noticed we haven’t heard much about Al Gore’s kid and his status after being arrested for the drugs in his Prius, and being clocked in the thing at 100mph plus? the kit is still in the court system, and he hasn’t dropped off the planet.  So, why isn’t that they media has not given us an update, much less the wall to wall coverage that they gave us of the Bush Twins, and their foibles?
• About 125 people got Salmonella at “Taste of Chicago” … which is about as concise a review on the event as I’ve ever seen.  Doctor Joyner, as I recall, is from Chicago.  How have to ask him for his insights on this one.  I gather that the both involved, was selling version cuisine.  Things that make you go “Hmmmm”.. and interesting coincidence, at least.

So why does the press never seem to remember what Hillary says, when it conflicts with her current position? Example:

On October 11, 2002, she cast her vote supporting the President’s resolution to go to war. She said her vote was cast with the “conviction” that the war authorization “best serves the security of our nation.”

Hillary also said that she rejected setting a timetable to withdraw from Iraq. Her exact words:

“I reject a rigid timetable that the terrorists can exploit, and I reject an open timetable that has no ending attached to it.” (Associated Press, 12/3/05)

I’ve been screaming for several months, for John Murtha to come forward with an apology to the Marines that he smeared.  Barring that, I have been saying the consequences for Mr. Murtha should ensue for his slander.  I see now where Michelle Malkin has taken up the call. so have the parents of one of the marines there.
Where are you, John Murtha? Do you have the integrity to render an apology, an admin you’ve been wrong all this time? And why is the press not pressuring  Murtha into such an apology?

We’ve been hearing all about this DC madam scandal, and how David Vitter got caught up in it. what we haven’t heard much about from the mainstream media, however, is the number 202-224-9557, which turns out to be a number assigned at the time to Senator Pat Moynihan’s office.

Selective coverage, at least. As I said at the time this list originally broke, I find it difficult… nay, close to impossible… to believe that only a Republican could be found on that list.  So, why not the same coverage for this find, I wonder?

The second clause of that quote is the dead-giveaway. Because of the life and death importance of ideas to human existence, this is like saying that the sum of 2+2 “has always had to be fought for, even after it was established as a proper reference to reality.” Well, I’m here to point out that any culture that has to fight for such elemental truths is neck-deep in an alligator swamp of its very own making.

I respond:

Agreed, fully… It is, in fact, a simple equation. It is also, however, a truth that is little spoken anymore. And there’s the issue.

And I’m here to tell you that the cause of that making, is our lack of willingness to pound on those fundamentals continually… To teach them continually to our young people, to hold them as values to be maintained, to be sought after, to be cherished.

Again, we agree …That they are elemental truths, is beyond question to anyone who is fully exposed to it. You and I are in fundamental agreement here. (Mind you, that is not an idle choice of words.)

But of what good is it if they are not taught, as such? After a few generations of that, (along with those who object to those values, pounding out there sludge on a daily basis for 100 years or so….) they are no longer accepted as fundamentals, and we spend all of our time arguing about it, with a 50/50 chance of losing the fight. That’s one of the reasons that I object so strongly to the likes of the professor, here. (Erb of course… Bit)

Put another way, if we actually had people who would stand up and pound on these fundamentals continually, particularly in the educational process, we would not have to put up with the opinions of “stupid people”.

In short, that sticker on the back of my truck, that says “freedom isn’t free”, isn’t just about military action, outside our borders.

A lot of this has to do with cultural conceptions of reality.

The conversation is moving far too fast for me to be echoing the whole thing out here, but I wanted to give you a taste of where that conversation is headed, And to encourage you to go over and read the thing yourself. 

As I indicated in the thread, will there; I am somewhat discouraged by the quality of the arguments against American fundamentals, from such as Erb, but I am encouraged that there are those willing to hold high the fundamentals against which Erb and his like are arguing.

Billy I didn’t say this to you, over there, but I will here:

Of COURSE Joe is a moron. 

But understand the source… I consider that the likes of Erb is a teacher, and is filling those minds full of his mush… as big a threat as al-Qaida is to our country and our culture.  It’s from the likes of him, where morons of  the likes of Joe come from.  We got into the current situation by refusing to engage these people, and defeat them.  We culturally decided to accept these “differences of ideas” as something to be overlooked, rather than fight against.  We are now paying the price.

I hold no illusions about our ability to beat such people back into shamed insignificance during our lifetime.  But if this country is to survive, it must be done.
