David and I have both expressed our reservations as regards John McCain… As a senator and as a Republican, much less as a Republican president.  Yet, the blind pig will find the acorn occasionally.

McCain’s people have got him started with a petition that actually contains some common sense.  On the other hand, this acorn is one that wasn’t all that hard to find. The petition runs thus::

The supplemental appropriations bill that passed the Senate on March 27, calling for a date certain withdrawal from Iraq, is nothing more than a guaranteed date of surrender.

It is a refusal to acknowledge the dire consequences of failure, in terms of the stability in the Middle East and the resulting impact on the security of all Americans, whether home or abroad.

Democrats have chosen the politically expedient position of failure rather than putting aside the small politics of the day in the interest of our nation and the values upon which this nation rests.

We the undersigned remain steadfast in our support for the war against terrorism and mindful of the consequences of failure in Iraq, even if Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid refuse to acknowledge those consequences.

We support our troops and the new strategy and believe it should be given the opportunity to succeed. American national security interests are directly at stake. Success or failure in Iraq is the transcendent issue for our foreign policy and our national security. People say they want to defeat the terrorists, but if we withdraw from Iraq prematurely, it will be the terrorists’ greatest triumph.

If we leave Iraq based on an artificial timetable, al Qaeda will be free to plan, train for and conduct operations from Iraq just as they did in Afghanistan before 9/11.

MINNEAPOLIS -(AP)- Six Muslim men removed from a plane last fall after being accused of suspicious behavior are suing the airline and threatening to sue the passengers who complained — a move some fear could discourage travelers from speaking up when they see something unusual.

This is serious attempt by Islamic militants to escalate the terror war on the western world.   If this suit succeeds, it will result in American courts becoming a weapon to terrorize American citizens  The Islamist know that terror can not succeed if the victims fight back as the heros of Flight 93 did.  They want to make American afraid to fight back and to use our courts to do it.

Here’s the problem;

I have perhaps 40gb of MP3’s that live on my big server.  I’d like to separate them down to collection of 650mb or so, for the purpose of archiving them on CD in MP3 format. I mean, if I lose the drive in the server it’ll literally take me hundreds of hours to get this stuff back and organized the way I want them.

Before you start pushing me to utilities like WINACE or WINRAR,  the stipulation here is that they have to be an MP3 format in the output side, not  archived in any way, (such as Zip) so that I might play them on Mp3 disk players in both BitsBox and Donna’s car, as well.

Additionally, it would be nice if I could  keep the current folder setup that I’m using… (Genre/ Artist/ Album/ disk /cut without seperating albums. )

I do use WINAMP, so if there’s a plug in for that environment that I don’t know about, that would be helpful.

So Pelosi is now conducting her own foreign policy?

I mean, “fact finding” as she’s decided to label this, can be done from here. But butt-kissing is most effective in person.

Yet you fight for it, almost as a matter of instinct, at every chance you are given.

You seemingly rationalize doing wrong, because you claim it will reduce suffering… for example, supporting theft, to support ‘welfare’ spending. Big government, again… see? So much for honesty and so much for principles of freedom.

Your preening about ‘morality’ is utter nonsense, Erb, because the basis of morality to my mind is based first in honesty. You miss on both counts.

Your statement about big government and welfare is a primary example:

So, you don’t like ‘big government’, eh? What kind of government is it, do you suppose, that will be able to confiscate enough funds to support such a system? And what does such a system do to the economic freedom of the people whose money is stolen to support it?

There’s lots more there, of course.

But look; This guy calls himself a ‘libertarian’.  Apparently, the word means nothing, if his claim is true.

 I am reminded (by virtue of this happening at Q&O) that there was a similar discsussion about Henke, not many moons ago, as to his being a libertarian of any stripe. But I will say that there’s a lot of difference between Henke’s understanding of the word, and Erb’s. I’m all for the ‘big tent’, and certainly my definition of ‘neolib’ is big enough to include him… and Billy, for that matter, as I’ve said several times. I consdier the ideas of most libertarians to be strong enough to smooth over and eliminate by matters of reason and logic, most of the variences.

The differences between, say Billy and Henke, as I said when that argument was in full bloom, are in terms of pholosphy, fairly large.  But not insurmountable…there’s still walls on this tent.. there’s still a limit as to how far such definitions can be stretched. At least we’re talking about the same subject… there’s a basis of conversation.   Erb trying to lay claim to the title of ‘libertarian’ strikes me as blowing the walls off any meaningful definition of the word.

Now, I consider it an open question if this misdefinition is more by intent, or more a product of his worldview that there are no standards.

Senator Dianne Feinstien needs to resign from the Senate Rules committee, which oversees ethics reform.    A corrupt Senator, like Feinstien, is not fit to define what is ethical. 

As the now disgraces, chair of the Senate MILCON subcommittee Feinstien awarded over a billion dollars in contracts to husband’s companies.

Having Feinstein establish ethic rules would like letting John McCain define federal campaign laws.

[Voter Fraud] It’s just a myth, according to these guys.

He announced his own look at 9/11 in answer to a question from an audience member. The man complained that the 9/11 Commission was too tied to the Bush administration to offer an unbiased report, and Kucinich agreed

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) was close to leaving the Republican Party in 2001, weeks before then-Sen. Jim Jeffords (Vt.) famously announced his decision to become an Independent, according to former Democratic lawmakers who say they were involved in the discussions.

In interviews with The Hill this month, former Sen. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) and ex-Rep. Tom Downey (D-N.Y.) said there were nearly two months of talks with the maverick lawmaker following an approach by John Weaver, McCain’s chief political strategist.

Of course, McCain is denying the report.  Blog reax: skeptical,  hurts, buried, and torpedoed. 

To continue the naval analogy, the allegations don’t have to torpedo McCain’s campaign.    The campaign is already floundering, and taking on water.  It would not take a torpedo finish it off.  Heck, I don’t think that would even need a deck gun. McCain is simply not well trusted by the republican base, the price of being a maverick to woo the media.   He can ill afford to have yet more doubts raised about his party loyalty.

This does clear the deck for Chuck Hagel, as the last remaining maverick standing.
