Fortunate, that we have President Bush; While they’re still arguing about the color of the chairs in the UN chambers where the multi-lateral summit may or may not actually take place, the work of dealing with the problem is actually being attended to.

Beckwith, over at Southern Appeal brings up a topic I heard about last night in the chat room. I’ll post the whole thing here, as well, since, given the message, I’m pretty confident he won’t mind.

Operation Phone Card

On January 1 at 2 p.m. at Floyd Casey Stadium, Baylor will host a deployment ceremony for the Texas Army National Guard 56th Brigade Combat Team, which is being sent to Iraq in the largest overseas deployment of the Texas National Guard since World War II. Some 3,300 of our neighbors and friends will be far away from their families, jobs, classrooms, homes and churches in the service of our country.

Baylor University and other Central Texas organizations are asking you to support our troops by helping them stay in touch with their families and loved ones while serving in Iraq. We intend to send every member of the Guard off to Iraq with a prepaid “phone card” in their pack.

You can participate in this effort by contributing whatever you can – any amount is welcomed – to help purchase these long distance phone cards. All contributions must be received no later than Dec. 27 to be included in the Operation Phone Card program.

There are three easy ways to contribute:

*To make an online contribution using PayPal or a credit card, go to http://www.baylor.edu/troops and click on the PayPal link.

*Cash contributions can be dropped off by Dec. 23 at the Baylor Athletics Ticket Office at Floyd Casey Stadium or the cashier’s office on the first floor of Robinson Tower.

*Checks made out to “Operation Phone Card” can be mailed to:

LONDONReuters Church leaders condemned on Wednesday a Christmas nativity tableau depicting English soccer star David Beckham as Joseph and his pop singer wife Victoria as the Virgin Mary.

Well, I must say, this is a new low, if perhaps unintentionally so.

This incident, however, does bring up to my mind again, the issue of why Mel Gibson’s “Passion” was done with unknowns. Consider this situation; the problem with using these people is one of credibility.  Can anyone think of any of Hollywood’s supposed ‘top shelf’, who could play the part of Christ?

The London Times Online has a story this morning raising the same questions I did over a month ago.

Asked if the aim had been to kill him, Dr Korpan said: “Yes, of course.” “

Now, you may recall I mentioned Dioxin as a likely suspect in this poisoning… and someone else in blgdom… and frankly, I’ve forgotten who, sorry… one of the big boys… JAmes Joyner, the Captain, someone like that…did a rather large write up on dioxin poisoning. This report mentions that as well, which I think an indication that we were not all that far off.

Of course in most countries, and even then under most conditions, such a charge of attempted assasination would be the end of the line for Yushchenko’s opponant, Yanukovych.

In this case either outcome wouldn’t shock me.

But more anyone stupid enough to try something like this would certainly also be desperate enough to attempt a simple ‘shoot ’em in the street’ action, as well.

I’m just now taken with the comparison of Pearl to the WTC. Since they’re the only serious attacks this country has ever countinenced on these shores, the comparison seems valid enough.

Here’s what I’m considering; The Democrats of today are now all about telling us that the re-election of George W. Bush was a fearful response.  Does that mean we can expect them at any time, let alone any time soon, to also say that the several re-elections of FDR, following the attack on Pearl, was also fear driven?

WorldNetDaily is reporting, along with about everyone else, that Kerry still lost Ohio, and thereby the national election.  The Democrats are still contesting the outcome even though they know they’re wrong, and that the outcome won’t change.

Why?

The most obvious answer is that to not contest the outcome is to admit that the reason htey lost is not that the Republicans cheated on anything, but because they were rejected by the American people.

In short, they have nothing else to go on.

How little has changed since 2000….

Speaking of radio stations and such, I should make note that WBEE-FM morning man Bill Coffey passed away this morning, at his home in Pennsylvania.

Bill was doing morning radio here in Rochester, by way of a network connection, because he was caring for his 80-something parents.  He’s survived by them, his wife, and three grown children.

One radio person to another…. You were good, Bill….Very good.

Joe Flint over at the Wall Street Journalis reporting some good news:

News Corp.’s Fox News has reached an agreement to become the primary news provider to radio giant Clear Channel Communications Inc.

Our local CC station, WHAM is using CBS. I recently wrote Jeff Howlett, the station manager there why they continued using CBS, when CBS has been repeatedly discrediting itself.  I never got a reply… it’s likely stuck under some secratary’s desk somewhere.  But this is just as good, I suppose.

Fellow Radio person and fellow western NY’er Scott Fybush says on his NorthEast Radio Watch:

“Here’s something not to do if you work as a reporter for a radio station: don’t call the operators of a political website and leave voicemail saying, “I wanted to tell you that you’re evil, horrible people. You’re awful people. You represent horrible ideas. God hates you and he wants to kill your children. You should all burn in hell. Bye.” Or if you must, it would at least be a good idea not to leave your name and your office phone number, as Rachel Buchman of public radio station WHYY (90.9 Philadelphia) did when calling the folks atLaptoplobbyist.com over Thanksgiving weekend. Buchman, who had also worked for WILM (1450) in Wilmington, Delaware, resigned from WHYY last week after the website made her message public; she had been a part-timer there, helping to produce the daily Radio Times talk show.”
