Whichever way this goes… and frankly, I could care less which, I hope we can get our news people to focus on like.. NEWS for once, after this, instead of all Peterson, all the time.

Well, of course I’ve not been posting much today… the news day is rather slow… and in Evidence of this, comes word from a TV station in South Florida that a woman there is the mother of a bouncing 66lb tumor…. complete with pictures, if you’re not eating dinner. Follow the links.

This one’s odd; Usually the woman in question makes Rosanne Barr look like Karen carpenter. In this case, that’s not true, as it turns out.

Weird.

OK, we’ve had our slow news day break. Now back to it.

James Joyner at Outside The Beltway remarks about Saddam’s capture one year ago today, and allows;

Presumably, the effort to build a secure Iraq would be even further behind were Saddam still free. But that the level of violence would be higher a year later was not something I would have predicted. Nor would I have guessed that Saddam’s trial wouldn’t even be underway. I’m still glad “We got him” but it has mattered less than it seemed at the time.

Well, I don’t know as I’d put it that way, James.

While I do agree that his departure did not signal an end to the violence, what it did do was remove one legitimate face of of the evil that is the Islamo-facists. we knew going in that there was far more than Saddam himself involved, here.  And we were right, too; Saddam, more clearly now than then, was a tool of these animals, not their leader… but because of his semi-legit position, a very effective one on the world stage, particularly, in the UN he was decidedly a threat to the rest of the world, and we’re better off with him gone.

That action, however, could do little BUT escalate the violence in the region, at least in the short term. The best analogy I could draw would be a raccoon, cornered by a pack of dogs… Such an animal will always fight with a rabid viciousness. It’s this reaction we’re now seeing from the Islamo-Facists.  Their mask has been pulled back a bit and they’re not happy about it, any more than the Germans, or the Japanise were happy about us bombing the snot out of them.

However, their happiness isn’t the issue here. 

I’m not interested in who hates us. OUr central issue was and remains the security of the western world against these animals. As such we should never back off. To do so only encourages our attackers.

For a long time I’ve used the phrase on every site I’ve written for, the line: “Remember; those who tolerate everything, stand for nothing.
What do YOU stand for?”.

McQ over at QandO points at the implosion of the ever so tolerant Dutch society, and considers that maybe they’ve gone too far. 

Michelle Malkin posts today:

“The family of Specialist David Mahlenbrock, a 20-year-old combat engineer who was killed in Iraq last Friday when a roadside bomb detonated, has a special request.

They are asking radio music stations to play Toby Keith’s “American Soldier” on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 1pm, in memory of Mahlenbrock, who will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery on that date/time.

According to military blogger Blackfive, Mahlenbrock wrote a letter before his death requesting that Keith’s song be played at his funeral in case he was killed in the line of duty.”

I post this here for several reasons… mostly because I know I have a lot of freinds who read this blog that are still in the biz.

Dodd Harris suggests, correctly, that the concept of a Socialist claiming property rights is amusing.

John Venlet meanwhile, suggests they paid too much for what they got. He also quotes DNC spokesman Jano Cabrera, who says in part

“Call me crazy, but I think the fact that for the first time in party history we outraised the Republicans, and did so primarily through grass-roots fund raising is something to be proud of.”

OK, I’ll call you crazy.

But look, guys, I’m not at all concerned. Seriously, let ’em keep it.

Yes, they raised that much more money..  But given the results of the last election, where the Democrats outspent the Republicans…(If you include the 527’s) by an order of nine dollars to every one dollar the Republicans spent… and still they lost…  I’m not so sure I’m convinced they’re a threat…. and he situation is going to continue to get worse for them.

The only thing that will change that losing trend is for MoveOn to, well, Move On.

Ain’t gonna happen and you and I both know that. So does the mainstream America.

WBZ-AM has announced that David Brudnoy passed away last night, finally giving in to the HIV he was diagnosed with years ago.

Sad.

Hobbs makes an argument that at least a few of my readers will find of interest. He notes on a fairly new blog called “Witting Shire” a post, which says in part:

“If you believe that man is nothing but a random collection of atoms, geared only toward self-preservation and bound by no moral imperatives, there comes a point when all your loud demands for justice and equality begin to ring hollow in the void of the universe. Why should you care if women are beaten by their husbands, if salmon die, if Iraqi children fall? Even if, irrationally, you do care, why should you expect anyone else to care? There can be no rights—and no wrongs—in a world inherently constructed around the survival of the fittest. All our caring is but pretense, masking the meaninglessness of life and the inescapable selfishness of our own lives.

Having lost our wits, we now are losing our wit. When there is nothing to smile about, no one smiles.

This one passage would seem to me the crux of the whole problem with what laughingly passes for the liberal mind of today, and would in fact explain much of what we saw in the last election.

A shorter version; How can one who does not think there are any moral absolutes, argue for anything, as a ‘moral issue’?

Lots of details, but what interests me is motivation, and I’m not getting a clear picture, yet. Comments as they occurr to me.

Update: Fox News has the best coverage on this, so far. an interesting line for me was the last one….

“Police could not comment on a report that Gale had shouted out “You broke up Pantera!” before shooting Abbott.”

Which would seem to answer the question of why he was shooting at the crowd, too. They’re fans of the new band, not the old one, in short. It’ll be interesting to see the autopsy results; What was this guy on, anyway?

Boortz found him, this morning. Here, my freinds is a typical middle of the road moderate Democrat. Or at least what passes for one. Boortz picks it up from there:

Polite is upset because of David Stoltzfus who runs a baked goods stand at the local city market.  Stoltzfus has a picture of President Bush hanging in the stand.  Polite is a Democrat.  Polite made a trip to visit Stoltzfus to tell him that he and other Lancaster Democrats are “offended” by the picture of President Bush, and he wants it taken down immediately.  Stoltzfus told him no.  Now Polite says he is going to ask for a new city ordinance that would make the posting of any political material, including a picture of the President of the United States on city property illegal.  Polite says “there should be rules.”

Perhaps you’d be interested in a free and frank exchange of views with this moron. And be sure to be so kind as to provide him with his very own Portrait of the President of the United States. Like this one, for example.

An extention of my long form on the Basketball game/fight of week befrore last;Sports Inebriated is reporting today that

PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) — After weeks of pouring over videotape from one of the worst fights in U.S. sports history, prosecutors filed charges against five Indiana Pacers players and seven Detroit fans.

Well, now let’s see. The charges involve a max jailtime of 90 days and a $300 fine.

Ask yourself; which has the better chance of getting off from such a charge; The average joe, or the Millionaire Basketball player with instant name recognition? Even assuming everyone gets the maximum… who can deal with this better? The Average wage slave, or the Millionaire basketball star?

Go ahead, America… tell me how ‘oppressed’ David Artest is.
Do I sound angry? Good. That’s what I intend.

A hat tip to Ace of Spades HQ who reminds us that it was 24 years ago tonight that John Lennon was killed.

OK, so his politics were downright abysmal. (A fact that Ace also notes) but it was about the music, for me.

I remember I was on my way home from my night shift at the Brockport radio station that night… a rather nasty night it was, too… snowing and blowing to beat everything. I stopped into a Wegmans grocery store, who had just started staying open 24*7.  I was busy sipping coffee a buddy on the night crew had gotten for me from somewhere and was checking out the magazine rack, when the rock station that the night crew had put on the house speakers suddenly went silent… and after much wheezing and clicking, the station joined what was obviously a hastily arranged network feed from their sister station in New York City.

I suppose I felt rather detached as I listed to the feed… But I do recall thinking as I walked out into the fresh snow, that the Christmas decorations were rather incongruous with my mood.

I suspected I wasn’t alone.

I spent a lot of the remaining drive home making mental list of any records I had on hand of the Beatles, or of Lennon alone, for my radio show the next day, wondering if I’d ever feel quite the same way about the music again.
