CBS Says Probe Results Unlikely Until After Election

(Reuters) –:

“NEW YORK An external review of how CBS News came to use disputed documents in a report on President Bush (news – web sites)’s military record will probably not be concluded until after the November election so as not to interfere with the presidential race, a top executive said on Tuesday. “

Their concern, clearly, is that they WILL find, and have to reveal that CBS is nothing more than a division of the DNC, They know the national blowback won’t stop at CBS but will also consume Kerry’s chances at being elected…. what little he had.

Since Kerry’s being elected was all they ever cared about to begin with, they’re not about to risk that with an honest self-examination. So they keep quiet until after the election.

Pathetic, CBS. Just pathetic.
People…..We deserve better.

Some things that have come up in the last couple weeks that don’t rate a post of their own

I’ve waded through the blog listing services I keep in the right side column, and found some interesting things:

Fox News has the transcripts up as well as vid… So does C-Span.. transcripts and vid, though the link to the vid looks either broken or overloaded at the moment. Go in through the front page, and find it.

Look, I’m not going to waste my time and yours fisking every line of transcript.
There are a few in the ‘sphere who can and are handling that task better. 
But I can’t let a few things pass that I saw last night.

First the supposed problem surrounding ‘no-bid’ contracts, and Haliburton. Those were established for a couple of reasons, both of which Edwards and Kerry both know and neither of which they’ll tell you about.

Amazingly enough, NBC mentioned the no-bid lie as such, though Fox didn’t.

Something nobody touched was the Edwards lie, attempting to disconnect Saddam from 9/11…. But lie it was. And it’s been documented, as I pointed out two days ago. Saddam had WMD, Saddam had AQ links. Get over it, already, JohnJohn.

Gwen Ifill was a bit of a suprize. After watching Lerher lean left for 90 minutes, I expected more of the same from her. I was suprised and pleased to note her calling Edwards on not addressing the questions. I do wish they’d had her mike in a better placement, though. They had it well off angle for some reason.

Cheney came off as being straihtforward, experienced, and sober… quite a different thing from what the left has been trying to paint him. Cheney did well in regard to breaking that stereotype.

More than once, Edwards performance last night has been described to me as a ‘yappy little dog.. the kind you want to kick through the nearest cat door’.. Most notably on the elevator this morning (hi, Carl… great line) and Mikey Kaus this morning seems to agree.

ABC gives the debate to Cheney. So does fox, so does MSNBC. (With Mathews sounding like he was in mourning on IMUS this morning… for that matter, so did Imus) CBS, to the shock of aboslutely nobody, gives it to Edwards.

One glaring omission on a constitutional level I noted (Ed-And so does Ed at CQ, apparently) was the claim by Edwards that “No state for the last 200 years has ever had to recognize another state’s marriage.” Edwards went on to criticize for “using the Constitution as a political tool.”

As usual, this is a lie. I will direct your attention to article IV of the constitution, called the “Full Faith and Credit” clause. As Captain Ed rightly points out,

“States are compelled by law to recognize marriages performed in other states. If any state performs a marriage between homosexuals, then all other states in the union will be bound to recognize it, regardless of that state’s law. “

So what this is, is the Demcrats trying to get this in on a national basis, through the back door. (Edit- Did I really say that?)

Cheney won.
Like the first Presidential debate, give Edwards credit for style, but then again, he being a trial lawyer, you’d expect him to be able to mouth platitudes all day long and SOUND good.

Trouble is, on the substance, Cheney beat him up like a rented mule.

“Rodney Dangerfield, the bug-eyed comic whose self-deprecating one-liners brought him stardom in clubs, television and movies and made his lament “I don’t get no respect” a catchphrase, died Tuesday. He was 82.

Dangerfield, who fell into a coma after undergoing heart surgery, died at 1:20 p.m., said publicist Kevin Sasaki. Dangerfield had a heart valve replaced Aug. 25 at the University of California, Los Angeles, Medical Center.

Now, perhaps you understand why I questioned NEWSWEAK’s numbers, yesterday.

NorthEast Radio Watch by Scott Fybush reports some sad news…

One of the Good guys is gone.  Muni was heard on several stations…. WMCA, WABC, WAKR, WOR-FM, WNEW, and was doing middays on WAXQ until January of this year, when he had a stroke.
Muni is picture here in ’59, at WMCA just before moving to WABC. Muni started an association with The Beatles that carried him, popularity-wise, throught his career.  But, he was not limited to pop radio. His was the voice behind the most influential progressive music stion in the country, WNEW-FM.  I’ve often thought it ironic that Muni saw WABC at it’s haeyday in ’64, then went on years later to lead the FM revolution.

His influence on radio in the 60’s and the 70’s cannot be over-estimated. His voice, his style are already missed.

I was looking for updates on Mt.St. Hellens and the whole ground-shaking thing, and found this… thought it of some interest. It’s run by the Forest Service.

BUMP AND UPDATE II: Another event this morning. THe steam was actually visable on the shot presented here. (Remember, this is a live webcam shot) The USGS officials are saying this won’t be like last time. Then again, they predicted LAST time wouldn’t be like last time, either… that it would be less than it was. Last time this thing went up nearly 60 people died. KIRO is running web vid of it on their reports.
