New York Times Reporters Tip Off Terrorists

The NY Post today says:

September 29, 2004 — The Justice Department has charged that a veteran New York Times foreign correspondent warned an alleged terror-funding Islamic charity that the FBI was about to raid its office — potentially endangering the lives of federal agents.
The stunning accusation was disclosed yesterday in legal papers related to a lawsuit the Times filed in Manhattan federal court.

The suit seeks to block subpoenas from the Justice Department for phone records of two of its Middle Eastern reporters — Philip Shenon and Judith Miller — as part of a probe to track down the leak.

Let’s see; we have CBS trying to throw an election, and the NYT aiding the terrorists.

And who do these groups want as President?

Colby Cosh doubts it’s going to happen, at least in time for the next season because of the lawsuits going on behind the scenes.

But I’ve got to say this; Rochester’s IL Rochester RedWings have a far larger audience in the stands than the Expos do. So do the Toledo Mud Hens.Matter of fact the Muck Dogs of Batavia, NY do a better job at drawing a crowd a lot of nights, and they’re a Double-A club, in a town that’s around one tenth the size of Montreal, for pity’s sake. The other night, Montreal drew a paltry 5600 fans. Lowly Rochester pulls that much on a middling night!

So, what’s going on here?  Well, several things, all at once.
Baseball was never that large a draw up there anyway… and remember, I’m within ear shot of most of Montreal’s many radio stations. Even assuming the Montreal market was big on baseball… and they’re not… the average income up there simply won’t support a team with payrolls as large as the average Major leauge baseball team. Tickets are just out of reach for the average person there.

There are cultural reasons for a lack of a baseball fandom there, as well. The French Canadian community there is among the most socialistic in Canada… (read: Anti-American) and sees Baseball as a uniquely American sport…. though, interestingly, they don’t seem to have much of a problem supporting the CFL football team, which plays what many consider to be another uniquely American game. The politics of the situation made an already tough promotion job nigh on impossible.

The Expos, as such have been losing millions a year, for years now, and are part of the reason the ticket costs in the remaining markets are so high… all the other owners have been towing them along. The economics, in short, are not there.

Moving ’em to Washington is overdue. What will interest me is how the IL expansion team that will move in there, fares.  It’s not like the IL’s Ottawa Senators, over at Jetform Park have been making money.. and they have a larger fan base and a far smaller payroll.

Meanwhile, the last Expos game as such is tonight. I don’t bother linking their website because the bandwidth has been exceeded at their server… and it’s offline.

Yes, it’s sad to see the Expos go. But the fact is, there are more fans to mourn their demise stateside, than there are in their own hometown.

A few days ago, the big splash in the MSM was Bruce Springsteen’s early attempts at senility, complaining about FNC, and how they’d let us down. But what’s the real reason behind his attack?

Why the demise of the leftist media of course.  Says VARIETY:

NEW YORK — For the first time in its history, Fox News Channel beat the combined competition in primetime during the third quarter of 2004, with major headlines of the summer including the national political conventions and a brutal string of hurricanes.

According to Nielsen Media Research, Fox News averaged 1.8 million viewers, while CNN, MSNBC, CNBC and Headline News averaged a combined total of 1.7 million. The quarter ended Sunday.

CNN came in a distant second, averaging 882,000 viewers, while MSNBC drew 421,000. Headline News averaged 226,000 in primetime, and CNBC attracted a paltry 133,000

Update: Boortz this morning, notes the same report and says we should look for increased attacks on Fox news. well, gee, Neal.. that’s already happening. Where do you think this bit with Springsteen came from?

Meanwhile, my challenge stands.  Write me an email … give me a call … send me some snail mail detailing any right wing bias in the reporting of the news on Fox News Channel.  For those of you who went to government schools and who, accordingly, vote for the big-government party … expressions of opinion by commentators is not considered to be “reporting the news.”

I’ll be listening, though I doubt anyone will take him up on his offer.

I’ve said it before, I will no doubt say it again: The current price… just a hair under $50/bl is NOT A RECORD. So, who would be spreading the story about how this is a record high?

Well, now, think; Who would benefit from the story now being spread about how bad things are?

Wait; it gets better.
The real record high price was set during the Jimmy Carter misadministration when oil was running, in today’s dollars for $82/bl. That’s right, the peanut farmer, whom the aforementioned group holds to be some kind of demi-god.

Work it out, people. There’s only one group that benefits from the gloom and doom being projected…

A nice effort, but as I’ve said previously, this won’t solve the problem. The real problem lies with the ownership.

* Anyone want to start talking seriously about opening up ANWR to drilling? Or do we wait until the price is at $90/bl? How long are we going to let the enviro-wacko left dictate our energy policy, and thereby, our economic future?

*If we’re to take the polling data currently out, it would seem the choice of November has already been made, and the remainder is formality. Yet, given the levels of Democrat vote fraud we’re seeing, we can’t let down the guard.

* Between a heater, and air conditioner, two new vehicles, and a few other items, we didn’t get much of a vacation this summer. We’re looking forward to Columbus Day Weekend, and a trip we’ve planned to Wilmington, and the Jersey Shore. The parks down there oughta be nice and colorful, and we plan some railfanning of the NEC as well. Bits Box is ready to go at last, and I’ve been ready to go for months, now.

*I’m fairly pleased with the new Blog layout, but I’m annoyed that I can’t seem to get the hover colors right, and I’m still trying to decide what to do with that keyboard background in the page header. Since so much of my design is on the re-election, it’ll take some serious work in Mid-November. I suppose it can stay this way till then, unless I get inspired.

Bit’s Blog of the week comes out each midweek. The qualifications for this honor(?) are rather simple; You need to have attracted my attention for some reason. Being in my blogroll helps, since I visit those on that list each day, but it’s not a requirement. You never know where the fickle mouse of fate will click. This week’s winner is Spiced Sass. I figure honesty like this should be rewarded:

You sharper people… and you know who you are… will have noted a change in the right side ads. Yes, I’ve opened them up a bit. This is occurring as I get more used to working with ad sense. 

For what this is worth, I don’t have much control over what they put in there, though I do hvae the option of blocking some ads, on a per-source basis. I would, given the choice, block John Kerry ads, but I’m not sure if I can cut it quite that fine.

And in case you’re curious, I’m now rich, having made a grand total of 30 cents as of last night. well, not really…. 28 cents.

Apparently, Mr. Kerry wants to be tanned when he shows up at the debates. Just within the last week or so, he’s started turning orange, as you see here. Drudge is noting this this morning… Britt Hume mentioned it on his show last night, and it’s been the subject of some chatter around the net.

So, let me understand this…. Now, not only is he having problems deciding what position he wants to take on every important issue of the day, he’s now having problems deciding what color he wants to be?

What a joke John Kerry is.

Boortz points out a couple quotes this morning that will interest those who think Kerry’s ‘more nuanced’ approach will work to solve our issues with the islamofacists, and get more countries involved with our fight against thse seeking hte destruction of the west.

Gert Weisskirchen, foreign policy expert for Germany’s ruling party:

“I cannot imagine that there will be any change in our decision not to send troops, whoever becomes president,” — Gert Weisskirchen, foreign policy expert for Germany’s ruling party.

No troops will be sent to Iraq “either now or later”, says the French foreign minister Michel Barnier. Boortz quotes another unnamed French source as saying

“People don’t expect that much would change under a Kerry administration, even if things can only get better. We do not anticipate a sudden honeymoon in the event Kerry replaces Bush.”

So the people he’s placed as being so important to our foreign policy, don’t want to play nice with John Kerry, either.

See, here’s the problem; Kerry has yet to figure out that making nice with the terrorists isn’t going to make them hate us less… they’ll see the butt-kissing as a sign of weakness, and take advantage of it as such.

And now, we have clear indication the French and the Germans will react similarly.

Isn’t that special? Now that he’s losing, Kerry begs for peace.

Kerry has a record anyone with since would runa way from. So, when the President brings up the Kerry record of flip-flopping, Kerry takes offense.

An article in the Independant bemoans Hitch allowing himself to be moved by facts he cannot argue around.

Hitchens and I still have many disagreements, but I must say at the very least the many has more integrity than those bemoaning his choices now.

The Cleveland PLAIN DEALER is reporting today somehting I reported last night, and expands on it:

“More than 1,000 voter registration forms and absentee ballot requests may be fraudulent in Lake and Summit counties, where investigations of irregularities are broadening. ” …Lake County Prosecutor Charles Coulson, also involved in the probe, said the problems are more significant than originally thought.

“We’ve seen voter fraud before, but never on this level,” Coulson said Thursday. “I grew up in Chicago and this looks like the politics of Mayor Daley in the ’50s and ’60s.”

These people are getting desperate. I fully expect more of this.
