Democrat Desperation

I wrote earlier today about Democrat desperation. It occurrs to me I could break this down a bit, as to what is causing it:

Ever since tellig is they were going to ‘drain the swamp”, and  making all kinds of promises, the record that they’ve developed since taking control has turned into something else, again.

• They’ve been pushing  SCHIP, which is essentially the leading edge of socialized medicine… a big deal for the Clintonistas… but ahve been totally unsuccessful with it.
• They have not passed even one, single appropriations bill.
• So far, they’ve tried mightily to force our defeat in Iraq but have been unable to do so.
• Certainly, they’ve failed in their promises to drain the swamp and  to make the  Congress “the most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history”  There has been no meaningful ethics reform offered… indeed, they’ve been harbouring serious ethics issues in Jack Murtha, as an example…
• They have failed to provide real earmark reform… again, the name of Jack Murtha rides high here, but so too do the names of Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Ried ride high on the list of ethics abusers..

The reason for all this of course is their own internal struggles, as the Democrat party tries to figure out what it wants to be when it grows up.  As Stop the ACLU says this morning:

The problem the Democrats are facing now is between their moderates and the unhinged portion of their supporters.

The unhinged wants to be on the anti-American side of almost every issue, they side with terrorists, the use terrorist speaking points when talking about America, they have no concern for our National Security and they encourage their politicians to be more partisan and play more political games instead of getting anything accomplished.

The moderates disagree with conservatives on some of the issues but they do not want America defeated and now that they are seeing success in Iraq, they are smart enough to not wish for bad news and failure.

The moderates want compromise and legislation to be passed an enacted into law, not a record number of roll call votes in the house that have no chance of becoming law just to claim that they have voted on a lot of things.

The moderates are the reason Congress has such low approval ratings and if the Democratic politicians do not start listening to the moderates and ignoring the extreme left, those numbers will fall even farther.

The Democrats have had a very bad year since being voted into the majority in the house and Senate and the reason for this is they have let the extremely unhinged portion of their party lead them to the edge of the cliff.

Only by listening to the moderates of their party will they be able to back away from the edge instead of being led over the edge.

Some of the politicians are understanding this and are backing away from the extremists in their party, leading those on the far far left to further bemoan and say that they feel like they are being “put into their place.”

They are…and rightly so.

The discussions over Hillary Clinton’s use of the victim card after her poor performance at last week’s Democratic presidential candidate debate haven’t died down. In fact, they seem to be intensifying.

There’s been some diversity amongst the reactions amongst liberal feminists as to whether they consider her a victim of a “boys-club” attack or if they view her playing of the victim card as a setback of sorts for the feminist movement. Ben Smith and David Paul Kuhn at The Politico reported yesterday on the mixed reaction from feminists to Hillary’s victim card defense:

After jeers from her Democratic rivals and many commentators, Hillary Rodham Clinton has backed off her suggestion last week that her opponents were ganging up on her because she is a woman.

But the debate is still churning in feminist circles, where some women’s activists said she had every right to invoke sexism and gender stereotypes as a defense on the campaign trail — and predicted that this tactic will prove effective against fellow Democrats and against a Republican, if she is the general election nominee.

One prominent feminist and Hillary endorser made excuses for Clinton’s hiding behind her gender, calling it a “visceral gut reaction” to being around all those men:

“It goes beyond logic — it’s a gut response,” Eleanor Smeal, president of the Feminist Majority Foundation, said of the spectacle of Clinton onstage confronting seven male rivals and two male moderators at a debate in Philadelphia on Wednesday night.

Smeal, who has endorsed Clinton, compared the debate scene to the congressional grilling of Anita Hill when she challenged Clarence Thomas’ Supreme Court nomination in 1991.

“Every woman — it was just so visceral — that panel was all male,” Smeal recalled. “It didn’t matter almost what was being said. It [was] a visceral gut reaction, and I think that’s what you’re seeing here again.”

Sure – it’s a “gut reaction” to instinctively think the worst of a group of people simply due to their sex. Women just can’t help but think the worst! Now, imagine if the shoe was on the other foot, and a prominent male public figure described his “visceral reaction” to having to stand on stage with several female contenders for political office, and then imagine the howls of outrage that would be sure to follow for weeks, the calls for apologies, healing, etc. Double standards, anyone?

Radical feminista Naomi Wolf was decidedly tame in her criticism of Clinton:

“They are being very, very strategic” by playing to sympathies that virtually every woman in a male-dominated professional world can relate to, feminist writer Naomi Wolf said of the Clinton campaign. At the same time, she said, “They are yielding to gender stereotypes.”

But she, too, eventually called Clinton’s tactic fair:

Wolf, a Democrat who advised Al Gore in the 2000 race on how to present a more “alpha male” image, said if this comes to pass, she has little sympathy for the GOP dilemma.

Men traditionally speak in more combative tones and language, in ways that women tend to find off-putting, Wolf said. Her complaints this week were a way of pushing back against that brand of public discourse, Wolf argued. “I have to say they are doing it legitimately,” she added.

Look; None of this should be a shock to anyone; As I’ve told you previously, what we have here is a seriously conflicted Democrat party.  It’s to the point now, where this conflict we see is NOT going to end when the primaries do.  In this case,  we’re talking about the split between anti-war leftists, and gender feminists…

What I found both disappointing and disgusting were the reactions of liberal women who believed that it was ok for Clinton to use the victim card even if she wasn’t really a “victim” of the alleged misogyny of the her fellow male candidates on the stage — because to those women, turnabout is fair play:

But even as Clinton abandoned the stance — arguably after it had run its public course and she had reaped the benefits — some women who have spent their lives fighting the politics of gender stereotyping said Clinton had a right to turn the latest events to her advantage.

They note that she has spent a career enduring public attacks, often accompanied by gender-based slurs about her persona.

“Turnabout is fair play,” said Marie Wilson, a Clinton supporter and president of the White House Project, which trains women to enter politics. “When you’re the one and only, those stereotypes are coming at you all the time. If she has one time when she can make them work for her, why not?”

Smeal said that she and other women deeply involved in politics didn’t immediately see the debate in terms of gender, but rather in the political terms of rivals engaging a front-runner.

Then, she said, her group started getting e-mails from women complaining that Clinton was being attacked. “Our rank and file … saw it the other way,” she said.

She and some other women’s activists were unapologetic about Clinton’s willingness to use stereotypes to her advantage.

“You reap what you sow,” she said. “There’s been discrimination against women for so long, and for once this is benefiting a woman.”

I can’t even describe in words fit for a lady to say how this attitude offends me as a woman. I can only imagine how it irks men who’ve had to put up with radical feminist double-speak for decades.

Yeah, well, welcome to the world through our eyes, here, Sister. But perhaps more to the point; How is Hillary Clinton winning, benefiting women of ANY stripe? An administration under that individual would be an unmitigated disaster… a fact which even many Democrats are now starting to see.  The country falling apart doesn’t seem to me an environment in which women of ANY political stripe will fare well.

Oh, and for you Obama and Edwards supporters, remember the story about the man who didn’t stand up to the Nazis when they came for his neighbors.

If Mrs. Clinton can not be expected to stand up to a television commentor, how is she ever going to able to stand up to tyrants like Hugo Chavez, Kim Jong Il, or the United Nations?   Russert asked Mrs. Clinton simple question which could have been anseered with a simple yes or no.   Chris Dodd answered the question, in well thirty seconds.

Currently, I am a Democratic Precinct Chair in Dallas, Texas. In fact, when Senator’s Reid, Biden, and Obama came to Dallas and spoke at Lee Park, they were in my precinct.

I am a lifelong Democrat (well, except for a few years in high school when my cousin Bo Callaway ran for governor against Lester “Ax Handle” Maddox).

Here’s my problem: I have been a strong and consistent supporter of Majority Leader Reid, Speaker of the House Pelosi, and have explained the failure to stop the war and various other things on the basis that you don’t have a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate or a veto proof majority in the House. The problem is that when you have the ability to put a road-block in Bush’s way, you don’t do it and then expect us to think you are doing the best you can when you can’t deliver. If you won’t deliver where you can, my voters justifiably think that you are not serious about stopping the damage Bush is doing to our country.

I cannot defend the confirmation of Judge Michael Mukasey to my voters. There are many things Senate Democrats cannot control, but we do have sufficient numbers to reject Bush’s nominees. It was a horrible mistake to confirm Judge’s Roberts and Alito. When Senator Biden was chairman, he was able to orchestrate a hearing that stopped Robert Bork. We need that kind of courage now.

My voters are angry. What can I tell them about your allowing Judge Mukasey to become Attorney General of the United States when I think you are dead wrong on this one?

If the Senate Democrats don’t block the confirmation of Judge Michael Mukasey to be Attorney General, we will lose voters.

Yada, yada, yada. Like I said, you can smell the desperation, like 3 day old sewage.  The Democrats in office know the reality of the situation, they know they’ll be out of office if they spend any amount of time bending over forward to accommodate the far left and it’s fantasies. Once again the words of David Obey come to mind.

You’d think the left would get the message by now. Then again, since when does the real world permeate the visions of the left?

That’s the title of this Jeffrey Toobin piece in The New Yorker. I don’t think that’s a very accurate title and suspect his editor was hot to spread the Thomas-is-angry-meme. What concerns Toobin is Thomas’s attachment to conservative politics.  

Jeffery Toobin accidently revealed why liberals hate Clarence Thomas.   For one, Thomas has the audacity to reject liberal mantra:

A touchstone of Clarence Thomas’s career on the Supreme Court has been his hostility to what he calls élites. When the Court, in 2003, upheld the use of racial preferences in admissions at the University of Michigan Law School, Thomas dissented, writing, “All the Law School cares about is its own image among know-it-all elites.”

And two, Thomas accepts and believes in God:

Thomas writes, took faith in God and, especially, courage

Liberals don’t mind people who profess to be religious, or people who go to church.   What liberals loath  are people like Clarence Thomas who believe in what they profess.

Laughable.

Ron Paul… even with the money games such a claim would invariably have attached to it, failed in his attempt to raise $10M USD in one day.

Of course, in the press, no mention that it was a failed attempt to get $10 million in… rather the press is NOW all excited:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, aided by an extraordinary outpouring of Internet support Monday, hauled in more than $4.2 million in nearly 24 hours.

Paul, the Texas congressman with a libertarian tilt and an out-of-Iraq pitch, entered heady fundraising territory with a surge of Web-based giving tied to the commemoration of Guy Fawkes Day.

Fawkes was a British mercenary who failed in his attempt to kill King James I on Nov. 5, 1605. He also was the model for the protagonist in the movie “V for Vendetta.” Paul backers motivated donors on the Internet with mashed-up clips of the film on the online video site YouTube as well as the Guy Fawkes Day refrain: “Remember, remember the 5th of November.”

Paul’s total deposed Mitt Romney as the single-day fundraising record holder in the Republican presidential field. When it comes to sums amassed in one day, Paul now ranks only behind Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton, who raised nearly $6.2 million on June 30, and Barack Obama.

I know I’m not supposed to ask this… How many days did they record NO income, for the purpose of stacking it on the ‘record’ day? And you still missed the target by over half the stated amount? And the press spins this as a victory?
Comon, guys… don’t insult our smarts, huh?

We appear to have made the New York Times, with this post. Interesting. But they get the questioning wrong:

Anybody working for the Rudy-Fred-Mitt power trio has to wonder why the Republican base is so hungry for these other choices.

Objection, your honor… Assumes facts not in evidence.  This isn’t the base, but a lot of people from outside the party. Ask yourself; Would Ron Paul be doing even this well… falling halfway short of his stated goal.. if the Republicans had their way? Why are so many supporters of Ron Paul, coming from traditionally wacked out left wing groups?

Except for the Nazis, of course…

I’ve been watching the business with the script writer’s strike out in Hollywood, with some amaze. The first thing to see problems of course, as this cracks up, is the monologues for the late shows… Letterman, Leno, and so on. Poor Steve Colbert…  has to quit his presidential campaign, and now doesn’t have a job to come back to because they people who tell him what to say to be funny, are on strike? That’s gotta be rough.

Given that these are monumental talents, why would they NEED writers? I thought they were legendary funny guys all by themselves? Look, gang, I’ve done a decade of morning radio, so I know it can be done on your own. These guys can’t do it? What’s up with that?

WBBM-TV is reporting:

CHICAGO (CBS) ? You may have seen him stubbornly standing up to an invasion of evil robots this summer in “Transformers,” but if you were in downtown Chicago early Sunday, you may have seen him stubbornly standing up to security guards at a local Walgreens.

Chicago police say actor Shia LaBeouf was arrested at the Walgreens at 757 N. Michigan Av. around 2:30 a.m. Sunday after repeatedly refusing to leave the store.

A security guard repeatedly told LaBeouf that he wasn’t welcome and had to leave because he appeared to be drunk, police said.

Oh. He was drunk? That would seem to explain why he was unable to change into one of those truck things, and knock down a wall on the way out of the store. Would that constitute drunk driving, I wonder?

From the UK comes word that Santa has been ordered to slim down.

Santa is being told to shift the pounds before Christmas – because the obese saint is failing to set a “good example” for children.

The traditional children’s hero, best known for feasting on mince pies left out on Christmas eve, has always sported a bulging midriff.

But shopping centre bosses are giving the well-wisher his marching orders – to the nearest gym – to tackle the increasing problem of obesity.

The revelation comes after a medical report earlier this month stated that by 2050 more than 50 per cent of Brits will be obese.

 This is how to deal with that problem?  Oh, please.

I overheard a talkshow on this very subject from 900/CHML in nearby Hamilton Ontario, Canada, today, while eating my lunch, oddly enough, today. The reaction was incredulous, to say the least.

OK, winter is coming, time to get the player going.

I was amused to see a rather unique record label… Real World Records… (Since we’re Politics from the Real World, here) while snaking my way through the used record isle the other day.   The label, as I gather it was founded by Peter Gabriel.  The disc was interesting of itself… I’d heard of the Afro-Celt Sound system before… mostly on a little FM near Albany, while going through that way a few years back.  When I found Volume 3: Further in Time (On a double length CD, and a UK only release, no less) I decided to take a chance. Glad I did. (How’d it get here?)
As the name implies, the group is a mixture of cultural sounds, with more than a little leaning on the drum kits. Sorta like Shadowfax with Celtic mixed in, and a lot heavier beat.   Apparently, they managed to get Peter Gabriel to sing with them for what sounds like a single to my ear, called “When You’re Falling”.  Robert Plant is on the guest list, as well.

Alas, the group was a victim of 9/11… in that just as they were getting going, a number of their dates were canceled by the events of 9/11.

Very interesting sounds, for when you’re feeling a bit more adventuresome. To give you an idea of the total effect, I asked my computer to play the first track, “North” in a mix, and it without much hesitation mixed it with Gabriel’s “Red Rain”, and then went to Blue Man Crew’s cover of “White Rabitt.”

Reccomended.

Summer has been so damned busy, I’ve not had much time to do any serious reading, except when we were camping. Some summers are like that.

With winter coming on up here…(We’re expecting snow, here, come Thursday) I’ve started the reading list where I left off, where I’d just started Godless, by Ann Coulter.

The line of the book (so far)  is exemplary on why Americans love Ann Coulter. Democrats, on the other hand, hate her.

If Democrats ever dared to speak coherently about what they believe, the American people would lynch them. So, they claim to believe in God, much as Paul Begala claims to go duck hunting. (Liberal code for “Antiquing”) . At the beginning of the 2004 presidential campaign, the Democratic Leadership council held briefings to teach Democratic candidates how to simulate a belief in God. To ease the Druids into it, the DLC recommended using phrases like “God’s green earth.” (The DLC also suggested avoiding the use of phrases such as goddamned motherf___ing Republicans!) During the primaries, Howard Dean began goading the press to talk about religion, but after claiming the book of Job was his favorite book in the Bible, was unable to place it in the correct Tesament. Regular Talmudic Scholars, these Democrats.

I can see I’m going to be breaking out the highlighter pen for this book.

Yeah, well, thing is, they’re certainly not going to do much ratings damage to Larry King, or Hannity and Colmes.  I mean, if that’s the best they’re gonna come up with…. sheesh…. moonbats are all they’re gonna get.

I was worried this might happen…

DALLAS —AP– A wounded Iraq veteran and his wife have lost a third child from injuries the boy suffered in a car accident on the way to visit his father in the hospital.

Three weeks after his siblings died in an Oct. 13 accident on the gusty West Texas plains, 9-year-old Tyler Johnson died Saturday at Children’s Medical Center Dallas.

Army Spc. John Austin Johnson was waiting for his wife, Lisa, and their three kids to visit him at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio when the deadly crash occurred on Interstate 10 about 12 miles east of Ozona.
