In Shirley MacLaine’s new book, the actress and longtime friend of Dennis Kucinich makes an interesting claim: During a visit to her home in Washington state, Kucinich said he saw a UFO and heard messages from it.

“Dennis found his encounter extremely moving,” MacLaine writes. “The smell of roses drew him out to my balcony where, when he looked up, he saw a gigantic triangular craft, silent, and observing him.

“It hovered, soundless, for 10 minutes or so, and sped away with a speed he couldn’t comprehend. He said he felt a connection in his heart and heard directions in his mind.”

Much is explained.

Addendum: (Bit) Yes, well, I wouldn’t be too overly concerned about Stark keeping his word about being sorry and henceforth keeping his mouth shut.  We already have a pretty fair example of how liberals keep their word about those kind of things, like, you know, when they apologize.

Bit wrote the following yesterday while discussing the Canadian conservative upswing.

Oh, by the way, there’s been an awful lot of chatter, lately, as regards the Canadian dollar coming up somewhat higher than the American dollar just recently.  Of course, the usual leftist mantra, pins this on President Bush.  I suppose that’s part of it.  But the part that they don’t seem to want to recognize, is that the other half of the reason is that there is a real conservative running Canada for the first time in decades.

The falling dollar: Bad news, or good news?

When the dollar rises, imports become more affordable to us, and the trade deficit tends to increase.  When the dollar falls, exports tend to rise; that helps create jobs here, and boosts GDP.  So, is a falling dollar bad news, or good news?

Here’s the latest version of the trade-weighted dollar chart; the dollar is almost back down to its 1987 1997 level.  (Exports, by the way, are behaving as predicted: rising briskly.)

In the long run, a falling dollar is usually a precursor to higher inflation.  So, in spite of the apparent short-run benefits, it would be better if the dollar leveled off, removing a measure of uncertainty.  Financial maneuvers to avoid inflation or deflation distract resources from the task of real growth.

Well, forgive me, if I come dangerously close to an Err America level of leaping to conclusions, here.  Of course they’re anti-war. What else would explain it?

When they haven’t been dead.

Well, yes, of course there is that.  But perhaps there’s something deeper going on here, as well.  Osama speaks as one who anticipates a large swelling of his ranks, from, shall we say, the rank and file of the Iraqi population.  And, for that matter, the Iranian population, and the Syrian, and so on.  And, years ago, that might have been true.  We certainly had enough of them.

But in looking at the numbers coming back from Iraq , I began to suspect that what’s happening here is BinLaden is losing support. not so much because of his religiously tainted edicts, but the horribly bloody results of them.  A point , I think, he tacitly acknowledges when he suggested recently that “mistakes were made”.

Still, he insists that these people have not deserted him, but that they were “lax”.  I suppose him saying the truth of this thing would leave him standing nearly alone in his ’cause’.

This is not to suggest that the core of his operation will ever collapse.  Zealots, after all, being zealots, never give up in the face of mere fact.  Witness the Democratic party in this country.  But without the popular support , even of the people that he had a couple of years ago, he and his Al-Qaida would seem to be at best a crippled entity.

Now; if we could only get the Democrats to admit that.  (Shrug) I guess not.  Like I say, zealots being zealots, never give up in the face of mere fact.

I’d think if it were but possible to rewrite one’s will after your death, the the Nobel committee would need to find another line of work.  After proving that their peace prize was a sham by awarding to jokers like Yasser Arafat, Jimmy Carter and this year Al Gore, the committee apparently gives awards in literture to the inarticulate.

I can imagine what Doris Lessing might have been trying to say.  Don’t think she came close expressing anything clearly.  Alas, while Lessing seems have lost her ability to write, Ed Morrissey, Captain’s Quarters, retains his sharp pen:

The Nobel committee has certainly fallen on desperate times, and especially so this year. First they award a peace prize to Al Gore for his global-warming hysterics, apparently because the science committee understood the extent of his exaggerations in An Inconvenient Truth. They awarded the literature prize to British author Doris Lessing, who disqualified herself for the peace prize by claiming that Americans were just too sensitive about having 3,000 murdered by terrorists on 9/11 (via Memeorandum):

No one has forgotten the IRA and its terrorism, Doris. Talk about naive! Who has forgotten about them? How does Lessing measure the forgetfulness? From the radio world, comes news that 1600/KOKE has dropped Err America.

Ratings apparently were the biggest factor… in the last book, they couldn’t even pull 1% in a town known for being liberal, despite having 5000 watts daytimes/(700 night) Interestingly, they spun to a Mexican music format. The choice on the music format may have something to do with their daytime radiation pattern…  almost all of the 5000 watt signal goes south-southwest. At night, that changes of course. And it’s not unusual, anywhere in the country, (particularly in the northeast for some reason ) for bottom feeders to try such formats.

The point is, KOKE was a bottom feeder, with it’s Err America programming. They couldn’t pull 1% listenership in Austin… a town that makes Boston look like a bastion of conservatism.

Let me make some points perfectly clear.

I am tired of Bit having all the fun.

It should be Chuckie and not Chuckles.  The latter is the senior senator from New York.  The former a clown.

I have utterly no desire to shut Chuckie either up, or down.  I’d much rather have Chuckie around to use for sport.  Leftards want to shut down conservatives.  Whereas conservative, at lesst some of us, like to use leftards for sport . Chuckie is good for sport.

As for Chuckie going to the MSM, sure.  Chuckie has even less contacts in the MSM than I do.  The leftard blogs like Media Matters get attention because they backed by George Soro’s millions.  It is money which get you mentioned by Keith Olbermann.  The poor need not apply.

So, you will forgive me if the impression that I leave his than I am less than impressed with Chuck Norris and his endorsement of Mike Huckabee. Sorry, Chuck.  That don’t cut no ice around here.

To be perfectly honest, but Huckabee is one of the few people in the Republican field who I am quite unimpressed with.  Granted, that he is better than any of the Democrats in the field. .. but given the quality of the Democrats, that’s hardly a ringing endorsement.  As for you, old son, I think it can be fairly said that you have reached your peak of political influence…. which isn’t measured on the Richter scale, trust me.

Perhaps I shouldn’t be so hard on Chuck. After all, he is one of the few people in Hollywood it isn’t part of the wacko left cabal, out there.  Still, I can’t help but think that what influence he has could have been better used toward the purpose of keeping Democrats out of the white house.  Mike Huckabee?

There are a few people that hate America. But I don’t think the Democrats are those. I think there are those posing as Democrats that are like that. But you don’t come into the center. You have to stand up for what you believe in.

As far as I am concerned, this is as bad as Don Imus calling that basketball team, “Nappy Headed Hoes”, Glenn Back should apologize or be fired from his job. Period.

What the Los Angelos Times terms remarkable, I’d call rotten:

All three locations, along with scores of others in some of the poorest Chinese neighborhoods in Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx, have been swept by an extraordinary impulse to shower money on one particular presidential candidate: Democratic front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Mrs. Clinton defended taking thousands of dollars from poor people:

“I am pleased to have a lot of first-generation American support as well as people who have been longtime involved in the political process … I’m going to keep reaching out to everybody in our country. I want to be a president to everybody.”

Amazing donors Mrs. Clinton has.  They’d rather give Mrs. Clinton’s campaign a thousand dollars than pay their rent.
