The good news here is that, after a decade of touting microinitiatives, school uniforms, and Fleetwood Mac tunes, the party of Harry Truman has finally rediscovered its voice on national security issues. The bad news is that it’s the voice of George McGovern.

Rather than claim the mantle of Truman, John F. Kennedy or even Bill Clinton, the Democratic presidential field lately seems to be taking its foreign policy cues from the New York Review of Books.

The money line:

If the Democratic Party intends to run against a popular war, its leaders might wish to recall the lesson of a Democrat who ran against an unpopular war.  (McGovern) He lost 49 states.

Here, Kaplan is close, but seems to have missed the target. Vietnam was only unpopular as he calls it, among the radical leftists that supported McGovern. And let’s be real, here….. is there ever really a popular war?

And perhaps that’s the point I’m making; wars are never popular, even among those who support our involvement in this one or that one.  Such support, however is a realistic response, not a measure of popularity. McGovern’s problem was he was as unrealistic as the leftists who supported him.

Not unlike those eager to end Mr. Bush’s presidency.

accorindg to the reports I’ve seeing, sales for Mrs. Clinton’s fantasy book are dropping like a thrown ashtray despite super-heavy publicity n Europe, including radio and television interviews in London.

Buddy Hacket died a few days ago, as I reported here.  Now, comes word that Buddy Ebsen has died. No details yet, thoughI can tell you offhand he was about 95 years old.

With all the Viagra spam traffic, my spam filter may have blocked the tip on this one.The Wrigley company has apparently secured a patent to make a gum with Viagra in it, last month. Talk about re-defining getting a little lift from your chewing gum!

Ann Coulter’s new book is certainly casuing a stir, isn’t it? A good 15-20% of the traffic on the Usenet political NewsGroups are with regards to her and her book. Of course many of them get into making fun of her appearence and… no kidding…. one idiot actually thinks she’s had a sex change operation 10 years ago, formerly being a HE, supposedly.  (Of course when her bio was produced, the charges and their writer slinked away into the night.)

Face it guys, the woman’s got it going on in both brains and looks… and she’s not about to take any crap for her views. Thing is, her views are conservative. Which is where these comments come from. Can you imagine the average liberal talking that way about Hillary?  (And let’s face it, Hillary is if nothing else, a case of losing out in the looks department…)

It interests me that those who are attacking Ann from the left, are now calling her the Maureen Dowd of the right… when we couldn’t get them to say squat about Dowd’s exesses previously. These are the same poeple that defend Michial Moore. 

The biggest problem for such people though is that Ann’s validity is far and away above those two, as is her credibility.

When in her book, TREASON, she came up with the charges that Democats in general were treasonous, many on the right stood up and applauded, myself among them. (I swear, I’m going to repost NO, NOT ONE again, as a BIT, cross referencing her conclusions with my own.., she said everything I’d previously said, and more.) And as you might have expected, this resulted in many leftists complaining about her attitude.

Of course they complain about her ‘snippy’ attitude.

What really pisses these people off so badly though, isn’t just her ‘tude.. but that she’s unarguably right. Consider; if this were attitude alone without being verifiably correct, she’d be easy enough to dispatch. But she IS right, and that sends the usual suspects into spastics, totally unable to come up with a cogent rebuttal, past “Yeah? well, you used to be a GUY..” and other such nonsense.

I’ve ordered her book. If it’s as good as the columns she’s been doing for years it should be a real hoot.

So much for the “they lied” crowd. Not that the truth will slow them down..

With all of the warnings of hackers nailing some 6000 sites over the last weekend, one wonders where the reports of all the damage went.

As a IT professional of many years, I’m seasoned enough to know that system aren’t all that tight, yet, and should have been easy targets. On that basis, I should have seen reports this morning of systems out.

I’ve not seen them.

Can it be that systems are really tighter? Or can it be that the hackers are all mouth, and no bite? Or perhaps the Homeland Security people overdid this one? Or perhaps a combo of them all?

Kobi Bryant has been arrested for sexual assult.
Unlike one Bill Clinton, he had the guts to turn himself in. Gotta give him credit for that at least.

Don’t get me wrong, I still think he’s scum. But what does that say about Clinton?

An interesting little debate has popped up on Front Page, as regards the question “Was the President’s move against Iraq justified?”

The left is having their heads handed them. It’s amusing to watch.

Mona Charen in her column today points up an interesting fact:

Last week’s news contained a couple of nuggets that stand conventional wisdom on its head.

So it’s of more than passing interest to see the results of a study conducted by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics. The study, which tracked 1.6 million contributions to House and Senate races, the two political parties and political action committees during the 2002 election season, found that Republicans raised far more from small donors than did the Democrats. As Ronald Brownstein of the Los Angeles Times reports, “Democrats raised as much or more than Republicans in 2002 only among the largest donors. Democrats attracted 92 percent of the money from the 23 donors who contributed at least $1 million. … By contrast, Republicans dominated among smaller and mid-sized donors. The GOP garnered 64 percent of the total contributions from those who gave less than $200 and 61 percent from those who donated between $200 and $999.”

Ann Coulter also has some ideas liberals might not like on the 4th.  Again, required reading.  Her column is of particular import to us here, in light of my comments on Patriotism in this weekend’s BIT

According to a story in TIME magazine, the commision is considering bring both President Bush anbd Bill Clintion in, to grill them on what they knew.

This seems a fatally flawed idea, because it’s dependant on what we know is a bad assumption: That Clinton will ever tell the truth.
