Using the Liberal’s Tools Against Them

A short while ago, I raised the issue with Al Gore getting hoisted on his own petard, by those wanting to bring him into court in a lawsuit over the fraud that  is the global warming scare. I suggested in that article that there was a certain elegance in using the liberals own tools against them.

Apparently, I’m not alone in this thinking: Hume notes another such instance last night:

A former librarian at Ohio State University says he wants his old job back, and wants the university to change its sexual harassment policies.

Scott Savage says he got into hot water with colleagues while serving on a committee to recommend books for incoming freshman. He said the books under consideration were too liberal, so he suggested “The Marketing of Evil” by David Kupelian, which is subtitled “How Radicals, Elitists, and Pseudo-Experts Sell Us Corruption Disguised As Freedom.”

Two professors filed a sexual harassment claim against him, charging that the book was homophobic. The complaint went nowhere, but the Columbus Dispatch reports that Savage says he continued to be harassed anyway. Ohio State had no comment.

At least at the moment, I am leaning toward encouraging such courtroom activity.  The defeat is harder to ignore when it suffered on their own ground.

Another morning in New York.  Another governor.  David Paterson was sworn in yesterday.  And oh  by the way, another sex scandal.   Juan Gonzalez, New York Daily News:

The thunderous applause was still ringing in his ears when the state’s new governor, David Paterson, told the Daily News that he and his wife had extramarital affairs.

In a stunning revelation, both Paterson, 53, and his wife, Michelle, 46, acknowledged in a joint interview they each had intimate relationships with others during a rocky period in their marriage several years ago.

I just hate sex scandals before breakast and it is hard for me to get snarky before coffee.   So I’ll leave the snark to Gina Cobb:

And, right on schedule — always first in line to rationalize wrongdoing when it’s from a Democrat — here’s the New York Times with “The Myth of Monogamy.” It carefully explains that most animals are not monogamous.

Yes. Exactly. That’s why we call them animals. Most animals also don’t publish newspapers, exchange wedding vows, make and keep promises, understand their own mortality, search for a Higher Power, or weep when they learn that their loved one doesn’t love them anymore and has brought home a sexually transmitted disease.

My first reax was that the headline was from the Onion.   We should be so lucky.   Days Inn rather than the Mayflower, well at least the new governor isn’t crossing state lines to unzip his pants and is dibbling closer to my price range.

So, Obama is going to try to diffuse the race issue he has so far benefitted from. How? By giving a  speech. The trouble with that idea, of course, is that the speech comes almost directly on the heels of everything else that has gone on in his political career…

It will be entertaining, I think, to watch him dance around the facts.   It will be more entertaining to see him torn apart by the jackals on the far side of this journey he will attempt today.   Those troubles all center on the fact that not only has Obama been playing the race card to his own advantage, thus making him a racist, but that he also demonstrably has a less than full relationship with the truth.  In all honesty, it troubles me that Hillary Clinton will be the beneficiary of Obama’s troubles. Then again,  she presents a target that’s almost as easy.

I think he knows he’s not going to be able to sway any fence sitters.  And anyway, this isn’t the general eelction, this is the primary.  I think the biggest concern of the Obama camp is their base slipping.  They’re acting like their internal polling numbers are telling them they have a serious  hemorrhage in supporters. It seems to me that the base are the ones who take this race card thing far more seriously than does the electorate as a whole.  The Obama base got involved because they thought he race thing was finanly beind them.  Imagine their thought processes as they find that their hero, centers his entire campaign on it.  In the end it’s that anger he’s dealing with more than anything today.

Obama can give a great speech when he feels the need. The question that now is being asked is whether or not anyone will believe him, anymore. Some of the “true believers” probably will. they were already predisposed to believe him anyway.  It’s not going to take much convincing to get them over this hump.  As to the rest of the American voters, I to question that won’t be answered.  For some time, November specifically.  Assuming he gets quite so far.

 Now … let’s see if I remember all this correctly. In reading excerpts from Obama’s first book, “Dreams From My Father,” I thought I read about all of the personal anguish he went through trying to deal with his racial makeup. Then I could swear that I though I read of the extreme discomfort he felt living in a white world, and the scorn he felt for whites.

Well .. I guess that has all changed now. Today we are going to be blessed with a major Barack Obama speech on race.

Well, this certainly desn’t run afoul of what I’ve been saying…. Obama is trying with the desperation of a drowning man, to run away from his own past, and put an Orwellian spin on his own history. Neal’s confirmed that much.

We look forward to Obama’s speech with much anticipation. Maybe he’ll explain why he was so quick to call for an apology from Geraldine Ferraro and has yet to call for an apology from Jeremiah Wright? Of course the very fact that I’ve brought that up here means that I’m … a racist!

Me, too, I suppose. Then again, it wouldn’t be the first time I was called that for demanding actual equality and accountability in such matters, as opposed to race-based hiring, admissions, loan poliices, and so on.

Bruce, you’re yright of course about the comments there… but you’re missing the bigger deal; The moonbats feel strongest when they run together. The light of day is now scattering the cockroaches.  Enjoy the show while it lasts… because regardless of Kos knowing this or not, his roach nest is over.
•  Joyner notes the £24m divorce settlement of Paul McCartney and Heather Mills. James does the math, and wonders if she was worth £16,427/day.  Prolly not; Even Spitzer didn’t pay that much. And James, the reason for the lack of Post- Beatles money references for Paul is simple; The one that was most concerned with such matters was the socialist of the group; John.
• Billy, think about it; The reason that Obama gets trumped by the context of his pastor’s remarks is what I told Martin just now: Since his whole shtick is froth, and no substance, did you expect that anything more substantial was required to defeat him? That Saint Andrew the Incontinent can’t get his brain wrapped around that shocks me not at all. But it’s not gonna stop him writing about it.
• Oh, and before I forget, Billy…we agree about Patterson.   The fact is, Patterson is farther left than Spitzer was, he’s just not the storm trooper Spitzer was. I’m not sure I’m encouraged by the latter, in view of the former or not.
• A little later than usual tonight. Given the warmer weather, I was washing the truck, and her car.
• Michelle remarks on the McGreevey thing I spoke of earlier today. I’m not convinced it’s TMI here. Frankly, with most folks I’d be inclined to agree. But this oe had to come out, frankly, because the American people, and int his case those in NJ need to understand the powerlust that drives the Demorats. Read again, what I suggested was going on back then… and my read has been vindicated. We were being hoodwinked so the Democrats could keep the state house… it’s as simple as that. Follow all the threads that branch off that, too.

Jersey’s ex governor, James McGreevey, almost makes New York’s ex governor, Eliot Spitzer, seem normal.   If what James McGreevey says is accurate, and in divorce honesty optional, the former first family of New Jersey were all pervs,   Fox News:

Both former New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey and his one-time driver insist that they engaged in three-way sex with McGreevey’s wife, Dina Matos McGreevey, who is in the midst of a nasty divorce from from the now openly gay ex-governer.

Matos McGreevey denies that the threesomes ever occured.

Will Matos McGreevey now file a law suit for slander?   Her claim to be a victim is in peril.

I had planned on wrting up something about Goldberg’s new book… I’ve been making noises about sitting down and reading the thing for a few weeks now, and finally got to sit down and start the project. I hadn’t planned on writing seomthing on it until next week… but I suppose Billy mentioning it was enough to open my own editor. While not as far along as Billy reports he is, I think I can say I tend to agree with Billy’s read:

“I can recommend Goldberg’s book to the intellectually curious, but I do warn you that it falls between the cracks being neither a strictly scholarly work nor yet a popularization.”

Jonah Goldberg links Jerry Pournelle’s remarks on the former’s “Liberal Fascism”. A bit over half way through it now, and that’s a pretty good one-line take on the thing. I might put it rather differently and say that the… heft of the writing doesn’t match its own reference material.

Yeah…. well, I get the impression he’s targeting an audience that’s not quite up to that depth of reading… and as Billy, I find that Goldberg is attempting a remedial lesson… one in my view that is long overdue. He knows people who have done their homework will know all these facts already.  So, he’s trying to explain this stuff to people who have been starved of basic logic on the thing for so very long, the ideas expressed in his book will (alarmingly) be wholly new. And perhaps that explains the horrified reviews of the thing from the usual suspects on the left.

Recommended… not only for it’s basic premise, but the way it teaches it… and anyway, far as I’m concerned, anything that ticks the left off so, has an innate value at the off.

Oh… I’m sure you’ve not seen this, unless you’re from that neck of the woods… but it turns out the Democrat mayor in Detroit, Kwame Kilpatrick, is in some serious hot water, and criminal charegs are in the offing. Of course he’s pulling the race card in defense.

And why?

….Kilpatrick, 37, is fighting for his political life as he faces the prospect of perjury charges-a felony punishable by 15-years in jail-for what many people now believe was lying under oath about an illicit affair with his then-chief of staff, Christine Beatty. Last summer, while testifying in a whistleblower lawsuit brought by two Detroit cops, Kilpatrick and Beatty vehemently denied they were lovers and that they had fired the cops for investigating the mayor’s security detail, which could have revealed their clandestine relationship. Then the Detroit Free Press in January unearthed text messages that contradicted their sworn testimony. (Example: “I need you soooo bad,” Kilpatrick texted Beatty on his city-issued pager in 2002. “I want to wake up in the morning and you are there.”) Since then, court documents have become public-despite Kilpatrick’s efforts to keep them sealed-that disclose a secret deal the mayor cut last fall to settle the whistleblower suit in exchange for destroying the incriminating text messages, which mysteriously never came out at trial. The settlement cost Detroit taxpayers $9 million.

Gee, ya know, it’s almost like there’s a pattern, here… I can’t quite pick up on what it is.

There was something about that name that rang a chord with me. I wasn’t sure what. Turns out I’ve already written about this clown, Kilpatrick, before. The patterns I remarked about then, and what we see now, are apparently quintessential Democrat.

BAGHDAD – AP-U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney opened a new U.S. push for political unity in Iraq on an unannounced visit Monday, just ahead of the fifth anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion.Cheney landed at Baghdad International Airport, then flew by helicopter into the dusty, heavily secured Green Zone for talks with U.S. military and diplomatic officials and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. It is Cheney’s third vice presidential trip to Iraq where 160,000 American troops are deployed and the U.S. death toll is nearing 4,000.

Cheney’s first meeting was a classified briefing with U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker and Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. military commander in Iraq who met him at the airport. Crocker and Petraeus are scheduled to travel to Washington next month to give a status report on the war.

Not too much a shock that he went, given he was supposed to be in the area, anyway:

 Oman was scheduled to be the first stop on Cheney’s 10-day trip to the Mideast, but on Sunday night, he left Air Force Two parked on a tarmac in England and boarded a C-17 for the final five and a half hours of the 13-hour flight to the Iraqi capital.

I expect also, that this is timed to mesh with John McCain’s visit, somehow. You remember, the one they didn’t tell you about.

The Luck of the Irish, Democrat and Chronicle:

Some attendees at Saturday’s St. Patrick’s Day parade have come for years; for others, it was a first experience. But all said braving the cold and wind to see leprechauns, Irish dancing and bagpipe performances was worth it.

It seem, as for a parades go, it usually better to Itailain in Rochester than Irish.   The Irish have the darnest luck with their parade.  Then mid Mach is late winter in Rochester, and attmpting an winter time parade can be hazardous here.   It does seem that more often as note, that a Saint Patrick Day parade here means of bliizzard.  When this year Irish Eyss were smiing the weahter was cooperative for a change.

Reuters is blowing smoke, in attributing a Pakistani attack on al Qaeda to US forces.    Note the narrative:

The intelligence official said four missiles were fired at the house in Shahnawaz Kheil Dhoog, a village near the town of Wana in the South Waziristan region on the Afghan border, just after 3 p.m. (1000 GMT).

It does not  take us four missiles to take out one house.  One PGM, precison guided munition, one target distroyed.   Now the Pakis might need four.

CHICAGO – The church attended by Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) fought back Sunday against mounting criticism of its pastor, accusing the media of character assassination and “crucifixion.”

See, that’s how it works with liberals. Uncle Bithead is about to teach you how to do this stuff….

To assassinate their character, in this case, Wright, all one need do is run a tape of them speaking, publicly, without editing out the nasty unAmerican parts..

To cast aspersions on a member of that congregation, In this case, Obama, all one need do is run a tape, unedited, of said member calling the religious leader in question, their mentor, and moral leader, and mentioning how he married the subject and baptized his daughters, and how he’d been a member there for 20 years.

Any questions, class? In short, we can’t take their words at face value. We can’t trust their words.Even though he’d been there absorbing that hatred for 20 years, and calling this moron’s teachings his own moral center, he couldn’t possibly AGREE with that hateful nonsense, right? Except his own wife spouts the same anti-American nonsense….

Ooops. Shouldn’t have mentioned that, huh?

In the end, all of this came about because he was so tightly wrapping himself up in that particular church and that particular pastor, in his effort to disprove the rumor that he is a Muslim. Because of what he said during that effort, he cannot now  seperate himself from Wright and his overt racism, without calling his own veracity into question.

Allah Pundit, Hot Air, offers a diffeent take.  On Fox News, as Juan Williams sees it, Barack Obama sought out the Black Liberation Theology to booster, or establish, his credentials as a black.    For Obama to repudiate Williams would be like Bobby Byrd trying yto repudiate teh Klu Klux Klan.   You can’t diss the girl you brought to the dance.

Whether Obama takes seriously the doctrines that Wright preaches is another matter. It is possible that Obama does not believe a word of what Wright, Cone and Hopkins teach. Perhaps he merely used the Trinity United Church of Christ as a political stepping-stone. African-American political life is centered around churches, and his election to the Illinois State Senate with the support of Chicago’s black political machine required church membership. Trinity United happens to be Chicago’s largest and most politically active black church.

So we are left with a distinct picture of Barack Obama not necessarily as person who holds radicial relgious views, but rather as a person who adopts relgious view for naked political purposes.    I mean, it isn’t even clear that Obama is not a Muslim.

Flanked by many members of his supporting team of lawmakers at an evening news conference, the governor framed the results as a positive statement on Louisiana’s national image.

“This group should be proud of batting a thousand,” Jindal said. “The country’s watching us … we know they’ll like what they see.”

Correct. The left will be showing us shortly that Jindal is their worst nightmare.

Can you imagine Liberals not being able to play the race card?

I dare to suggest to you further, that how the bit with Obama and his racism (and that of his campaigners) gets handled by the Donks will play heavy once again, once Jindal gets to National Status.

A former aide to James McGreevey said today that he had three-way sexual trysts with the former governor and his wife before he took office, challenging Dina Matos McGreevey’s assertion that she was naive about her husband’s sexual exploits.

The aide, Theodore Pedersen, said he and the couple even had a nickname for the weekly romps, from 1999 to 2001, that typically began with dinner at T.G.I. Friday’s and ended with a threesome at McGreevey’s condo in Woodbridge.

They called them “Friday Night Specials,” according to Pedersen.

Now, this is the guy, who you may recall, was defended by the left saying we were only out to get him out of office there in New Jersey because he was a Homosexual.

I said at the time:

It seems clear the party leadership sat down and worked out what they felt was the best way to retain the Govenor’s spot in New Jersey, for their party…. dirvet attention from the crimes of Mc­Greevey and the Democrats, by releasing the info that Mc­Greevey is a homosexual, and had an affair. Muddy the water. Arrange for Mc­Greevey to resign AFTER the election, thus keeping the Governor’s job in Democrat party hands until the three years from now… by which time, the electorate won’t remember how dirty all the Democrats surrounding Mc­Greevey were.

Obviously, with this new information, my original assertion about the intentions of the Democrats seems vindicated. Interesting how this comes up again, with another Democrat, just to the west of the first instance.

There’s lots of history, here that I’d advise you read. You may notice a pattern.

“Alegre”, a longtime Daily Kos diarist, has called for a writers strike at the world’s largest supposedly-Progressive blog site, due to what she says has become a “hostile environment” for pro-Clinton supporters.

She writes that the place has become “little more than an echo chamber with an attitude that harkens back to the early days of Dubbya’s administration – yer either with us or yer a’gin us, heh!”

We don’t know whether that’s the case or not, since we haven’t much followed what goes on at dKos for years for our own personal, if not necessarily unrelated, reasons.

If you really want to get the attention of a blog owner, however, we’d suggest a readers strike is far more likely to accomplish that goal, since the business model for such operations rely on reader traffic to help set ad prices.

Amazing. It never ends with these people. And the fact is, one is as bad as the other. Yes, you read me correctly. These are Clinton supporters all bent outta shape because the Kossacks are Obama supporters and they’re breaking out the same kind of tacics that the Clintonites have been using for two decades…

Hey, Brad… since the Republicans have been putting up with this kind of abuse for far longer, how is it that you find this stuff so offensive NOW? Where the hell were you back in the early 90’s? I guess it’s OK when the Clintons do it, huh?

It’s blaspheme! Pure and simple!

I don’t think he’s [John Coleman’s] serious about wanting to actually sue The Goracle and other global warming alarmists in order to resolve the global warming debate – at least I hope he isn’t. It shouldn’t be up to the courts to decide the merits of either argument (contrary to the left’s beliefs on the issue). I think what Coleman, a noted critic of the alarmist’s arguments about our impending doom, is saying that it’s so hard to get a two-sided debate on the issue, that perhaps he would try the legal route, since other attempts haven’t been successful.

Ya know, I can’t help but think that the left views this kind of thing as a “Miracle on 34th Street” type of scenario.  After all, what Gore is selling is most certainly based on the same level of proof as the concept of Santa Claus.

As much as I agree with Sis that the court is no place to make scientific judgments, I do have to say that using the liberal’s own tool… the court system… against them on this nonsnese does have it’s appeal… mostly it’s one of the few things we might use they ahve any degree of respect for.

So, let’s haul Gore into court, and see if he really IS Santa. I suspect he won’t do quite so we as the subject of the movie did, being more the Miracle of Madison Ave, rather than 34th Street.

John McCain took some time off of the campaign trail and hit the ground in Iraq this morning.  The media calls it a “surprise visit”, but he had given indications that he would visit Iraq after he clinched the nomination in order to get a fresh assessment of the progress being made by General David Petraeus and the troops.  He intends to meet with Iraqi leadership, who might get a glimpse of the McCain temper for their foot-dragging on reconciliation:

Republican presidential candidate John McCain arrived in Iraq on Sunday to assess improved security attributed to a build-up of 30,000 extra troops of which he has been a strong supporter.

McCain arrived in Baghdad and was due to meet Iraqi government leaders and U.S. officials in the heavily fortified “Green Zone” diplomatic and government compound, U.S. embassy spokeswoman Mirembe Nantongo said. …

Attacks across Iraq have fallen by 60 percent since last June, when extra troops were fully deployed. There has been a fall in violence since January but U.S. commanders in Iraq say this does not represent a trend.

McCain’s visit will have at least one salutary effect – it will force news agencies to cover the drop in violence in Iraq yet again.

Really? So why is your post on this, literally, the first time I’ve heard of the trip? A look at CNN’s site, shows nothing of the trip on the front page, until you get about halfway down to the bottom, where it lists under “World News” a very small (*-10pt) headline: McCain arrives in Baghdad.

Fox, meanwhile, has it a bit closer to the top, but still takes the majority of the space for a message from the Pope denouncing our actions in Iraq.

(By the way, that’s a real gem of an idiot you’ve elected pope, guys… I strongly expect a lot of Catholics are getting embarrassed by this guy.. as they should be.)

(BTW II:So much for Fox being a supposed “right wing news outlet” There is no such animal.)

So, in short, not much has changed. The press as a whole is still trying to duck the issue of progress being made in Iraq, for fear it will place the Democrat candidates in jeopardy of not attaining power. Move along, citzen. Nothing to see here.
