Andrew Young, former mayor of Atlanta, former Carter adminstration stooge, and full time fool, has come out with the strangest endorsement I have ever heard.  Basically Young endorsed Mrs. Clinton because her husband, B.J. Clinton, diddled more black women than Barack Obama.    Good for  Obama.    Go watch Young.

Young went on to say that Obama needs a protective network that he currently lacks – a quality that could hurt him if he were to be elected. He said Hillary Clinton already has that kind of network, including her husband to back her up.

“There are more black people that Bill and Hillary lean on,” Young said. “You cannot be president alone. … To put a brother in there by himself is to set him up for crucifixion. His time will come and the world will be ready for a visionary leadership.”

Translation,  Mrs.  Clinton has the support of a willfully blind media and B.J. beds more black chicks than Obama.    Yound infers leadership correlates with marital infidelity.  How will the black community respond.?    Should Mitt just write-off the black vote?

John Hawkins over at  Right Wing News  has an interview posted with Fred Thompson’s campaign manager Bill Lacy.  An error on my part had this on my ticker for next year. My bad. Sorry, John.

It’s clear by what Lacy says in the interview, that they have in mind precisely the program I had laid out a few weeks ago, here.  They don’t want a peak to Worley.  It also appears that since the south is Thompson’s home turf that they are banking on what I suppose could be called the southern strategy… at least, geographically.  Thompson’s people also don’t seem to be too worried about the money situation.

If mayor Giuliani has not won a primary before Florida, the question is, what’s the condition of his campaign and can he buy a win there? Very clearly, he would have more money than we do at that point, I would think, …but money is not the determinate. Once you get the primaries going, it’s the national coverage, the attention you guys give the campaigns, …that can put us in a position to capture a decent share of the delegates in Florida. Then you go into Super Tuesday, where you have…a lot of strong Southern and Mid-Western states, after Fred has had a strong showing in South Carolina and Florida and that would put us in a strong position….”

Interesting. The New York Times is now reporting that CIA officials were advised not to destroy videotapes of terrorist interrogations:

WASHINGTON, Dec. 7 — White House and Justice Department officials, along with senior members of Congress, advised the Central Intelligence Agency in 2003 against a plan to destroy hundreds of hours of videotapes showing the interrogations of two operatives of Al Qaeda, government officials said Friday.The chief of the agency’s clandestine service [Jose A. Rodriguez Jr.] nevertheless ordered their destruction in November 2005, taking the step without notifying even the C.I.A.’s own top lawyer, John A. Rizzo, who was angry at the decision, the officials said.

There appear to have been valid operational reasons to destroy these tapes, not the least of which was to prevent al Qaeda and other terrorist leaders from viewing details of CIA interrogation techniques, and protecting the identities of the interrogators. No one could seriously doubt that the videos would have eventually made their way to YouTube.

Unfortunately, operational security must take a back seat to congressional witch-hunts these days.

At the end of the day, there are more important things ………………..”to be concerned about then feeding the  “gotcha”-hungry Democrats in Congress. things like, national security, for example.  I grow weary, frankly, of misguided attempts at “morality” superseding our survival.  That is particularly true when demonstrably these are people who don’t give a damn about, reality, but are only interested in their own political power.  I for one don’t plan on allowing them to sacrifice our national security on the altar of Democrat party power.  Frankly, that is what it’s come down to.

Andrew DeMillo, Associcated Press,  ironically  notes Mike Huckabee march to the rear with respect to AIDS

In 1992, Huckabee was right that the federal goverment was treating AID not as disease bit as some sort of civil right:

“It is difficult to understand the public policy towards AIDS. It is the first time in the history of civilization in which the carriers of a genuine plague have not been isolated from the general population, and in which this deadly disease for which there is no cure is being treated as a civil rights issue instead of the true health crisis it represents.”

Since the pubic blood supply have been cleaned of HIV,  AIDS remains an extremely easy disease to prevent.   Essentially HIV can only be vectored through stupid behavior.

Back then, Huckaeee observed that AIDS was a grossly over funded:

“In light of the extraordinary funds already being given for AIDS research, it does not seem that additional federal spending can be justified,”

Sadly, Huckabee has left his wisdom behind him:

“My administration will be the first to have an overarching strategy for dealing with HIV and AIDS here in the United States, with a partnership between the public and private sectors that will provide necessary financing and a realistic path toward our goals,”

Preventing the spread of HIV, does not require large amounts of public funding.   It requires common sense, of which Huckabee is in short supply.

Me at Q&O where Dale Franks is properly agonizing over ‘torture’:

Do we really want the government to do “unpleasant, unsavory and sometimes awful things” in the defense of our freedom?

I am amazed that a veteran of our military would question thus. The answer is, “Of course we do, else our military wouldn’t exist. Is dropping a Bunker Buster on a AQ safe house in Mosel to be considered “pleasant”?

If you take the argument to it’s logical conclusion in the opposite direction, you could argue that slippery slope was already started down the moment we came up with a military in any form. I’m sure the anti-war types would agree with that statement as far as it goes.

In reality what we’re arguing about is not absolutes, but matters of degree. Where the disagreements, in the room for argument comes in, is who gets to label what is unpleasant and unfair. The anti-War types will argue that any killing or aggressive action in the name of freedom is unacceptable. But the bottom line, here it is…

And of course, not having done either of them wouldn’t have changed the eventual outcome of the war, would it?

I agree…Psychological warfare is certainly harder to pin down as to its ultimate result, so I think the case can be argued either way, as to whether not avoiding those actions would have resulted in our defeat. I do think it would not have…Though most certainly it would have created hundreds of thousands and perhaps millions of additional Allied casualties.

And there’s the central point, here.  Seems to me that the very point of bringing up those two incidents was one of priority.  In other words, if those incidents by their taking place save American lives?  I think ultimately, the answer is yes.

If that’s the yardstick by which such actions are justified, then isn’t torture the same question scaled down from millions of people, to a paltry handful?

Our current situation is very similar to then… allowing for the scale in each. As then, there’s no way that our current enemy can defeat us militarily. Yet the question arises again as it did in the case of Dresden and in the case of Nagasaki and Hiroshima whether or not the length of the war could be shortened, and thus Allied lives saved, by those actions.

I say that both the actions in Dresden and in Japan, were more than justified.

And so the KSM Interrogation comes along, and with it the understanding that his information as supplied saved American lives. I’d have to say that such actions there were justified, as well.

As for the rest, let’s not be fooled here. The largest part of the screaming these days is coming from a group of people who is looking desperately for something / anything to hang on the current administration so as to gain political power. The people who were screaming the loudest about this business, don’t give a damn about our morality. They are only interested in political power.

All that said, I do not suggest that such actions shouldn’t be questioned. Even the pilots of the plane that dropped the first a bomb on Japan as they were flying away and questions. “My God, what have we done?” Such questions are a self-check mechanism.

However, even given that self-questioning process, in each of the cases cited, the purposes were that lives were saved. American lives. These were not acts of aggression, but rather acts of defense… and thus defensible.

I find myself curious as to why suddenly the listings of BitsBlog on Memeorandum have dwindled to nonexistence.  A week ago, it was unusual for us not to have something showing on their home page.  As it stands now, it’s been three days since anything at all has shown up there.

Our page hit traffic continues to do well, but not quite as well as a week ago.  So, I must admit to being curious, has to what threshold got crossed.  Are we in the doghouse for saying something wrong?  Or is there something else going on here that I don’t understand?

It is actually quite a service, and what I continue to use, as I have for couple years now.   And on the scale of things, this is a fairly minor annoyance.  But as anybody else noticed this kind of thing going on with other sites?  I’d like to hear about it.

The fallout continues from Bernie Ward’s arrest on child porn charges.  San Jose Mercury News:

Ward’s lawyer told KGO the alleged pornography involves research Ward did more than four years ago for a book.

“He was doing research,” said Jeanette Boudreau, Ward’s business lawyer. “For him to be charged this way for what probably amounts to a technical violation of the law is a tragedy.”

Sounds like a defense we’ve heard before.

Ward, a San Francisco resident known for being a liberal firebrand, is married with four children. He left the priesthood more than two decades ago, said his friend Susan Prather, the executive director of Fresh Start, a Walnut Creek-based service organization for the homeless.

“People need to remember the good things he’s done in the community,” Prather said. “He’s a good man. I think he made a tragic mistake and I pray he’ll be exonerated. He was doing research and didn’t do anything wrong.”

And Hitler was a great guy… he made the trains run on time.

If you think the comparison is a little over the top, let’s try something little more tame, shall we?

What would happen to Rush Limbaugh, were he to make such a claim?  “Well, I was just doing research.”  You know as well as I do the outcry would be unending.  Or for that matter, Ward’s cross-town rival, Michael Savage.  If Savage were ever accused of such a crime, the man would be the newest attachment to the Golden Gate bridge.  But because this guy big mouthed liberal loon, we’re supposed to take claims that he was ‘doing research’ seriously.

Perhaps someday someone will be able to coherently explain to me how these people can come up with this glittering double standard with a straight face.  Of the time being, I just don’t see it.  But I will tell you what I do see; this being the leftist San Francisco, this guy will be on the street again, and on the air again, in about six months’ time.

The Politico:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) says a swipe that Vice President Cheney took at Democratic House leaders is “beneath the dignity of his office.”

Capitol Hill was abuzz Thursday with discussion of the vice president’s assertion in an interview with Politico that House Democratic leaders had been surprisingly supine: “They are not carrying the big sticks I would have expected.”

Cheney added that when he served in the House, “We would not have had a Speaker who, from my perspective, is that far out of the sort of mainstream — she is a San Francisco Democrat, certainly entitled to her views, but able to dictate policy as effectively as she apparently does to the rest of the caucus.”

It’s amazing to me, just what will set these morons off.  Tell me what’s untrue about what Cheney said.  The fact of the matter is that the house speaker is dramatically out of step with mainstream America, and her “leadership” has been an abysmal failure since the day after her coronation.  To swipe a phrase; Com’on, Democrats, Even you can do better.

CNN”s, Clinton News Network,  Maria Bartiromo interviewed Mrs. Clinton on the mortage lending problem, video.

Somehow the Smartest Woman in the World comes across as clueless.    Mrs. Clinton proposes spending five billion dollars of the taxpayers money.  Yet she has no clue from where the money will come.   Mrs. Clinton declares that Congress in in dark about the problem.  Yet Mrs. Clinton has spent the last seven years in Congress.  

No wonder Mrs. Clinton refuses to bake cookies.

Reynolds:

I HEARD NEAL BOORTZ holding forth on the Omaha mall shooting this morning on the way to work, and I realized I haven’t posted on it. I don’t really have anything to say that I haven’t said before. But it’s worth noting — since apparently most of the media reports haven’t — that this was another mass shooting in a “gun-free” zone.

True, Boortz has commented at length on this, wondering online yesterday:

I’m wondering today if the Westroads Mall had a policy of prohibiting people with carry permits from carrying their weapons into the mall, or if there was something in Nebraska’s laws that prohibited same. We’ll try to find out today.

Neal also brings up the idea that this Robert Hawkins individual had just been fired from McDonald’s.  I wasn’t even aware it was possible for somebody to be fired from McDonald’s.  You certainly wouldn’t know it by the quality of the individuals you meet at the counter every day.  Don’t misunderstand; as you can probably tell by my outstanding physique, I do intend to enjoy McDonald’s.  But let’s face it, we’re not exactly talking the upper end of Jobdom, here.

Glenn, however, makes an interesting point, and it’s one I hope finds some traction;

It seems to me that we’ve reached the point at which a facility that bans firearms, making its patrons unable to defend themselves, should be subject to lawsuit for its failure to protect them. The pattern of mass shootings in “gun free” zones is well-established at this point, and I don’t see why places that take the affirmative step of forcing their law-abiding patrons to go unarmed should get off scot-free.

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if the lawsuits coming out of this incident didn’t include Reynolds point as an argument.  Certainly such a lawsuit even existing would tend to take the wind out of the sails of the antigun people.
