Don Gibson, songwriter, and singer, has passed away at age 75.
Among his songs:
“I can’t stop loving you” that Ray Charles had a major hit with, but was actually recorded by over 700 artists…… he penned “oh, Lonesome me” that same day..(Yes, the Kentucky Headhunters had a hit with it, but it’s been around forever)… Two major hits… “Sweet Dreams” was another one of his.. that many, including Emmylou Harris had a hit with.
A great loss…

Billy Beck makes mention of Hillary in Iowa, calling it a victory, and asking what else would you call it…

New York Sen. Hillary Clinton told Iowa Democrats Saturday night that she recently visited Washington, D.C.’s Walter Reed Army Hospital to comfort wounded soldiers coming back from Iraq, saying their plight was the result of President Bush’s arrogant foreign policy.
….but….
A comprehensive review of news reports over the last week, however, failed to turn up any mention of Sen. Clinton’s visit to Walter Reed.
It gets better….. She’s got a history of lying about such things.
The former first lady made similar claims of meetings with 9/11 victim familles to author Stephen Brill earlier this year. But when Brill attempted to confirm the visits with the families themselves, he got a different story.
“None of it turned out to be true,” he told radio host Steve Malzberg. “[Sen. Clinton’s office] gave me documents and phone calls and things like that which just plain never happened.”
Now, what would she gain by this, do you suppose?

When you construct an extremist movement based in part on irrational hatred of Jews, it is only a matter of time before you start targeting Jews in every country for death. That much we know from history. Except it isn’t history any more, is it? For good measure, a Jewish Middle School was just burned down in France by what even the French Interior Minister describes as anti-Semites. Never again? It’s already here.
He’s right in this of course. And this is the second attack that missed the intended target and took out Arabs instead.
This only firms up my argument of the other day;
… logically, based on these attacks, one could ask now, as never before in recent times, if a religious fervor was *ever* at the heart of the reasoning behind ElQuieda and it’s actions. This question is far more central than some here in the US would make it, because it speaks to the question of other Arab nations supporting the remainder of the world in their war…..and war it is… with ElQuieda.
I suspect that as a result of this attack, we will see far more in the way of support from Arab nations, both direct and indirect. The notable exceptions of this would be Syria and possibly Iran.
It seems to me that by their reactions the battle lines will be drawn. I fully expect the Saudis to be very co-operative indeed with the west going forward.

The memo, dated October 27, 2003, was sent from Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Douglas J. Feith to Senators Pat Roberts and Jay Rockefeller, the chairman and vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. It was written in response to a request from the committee as part of its investigation into prewar intelligence claims made by the administration. Intelligence reporting included in the 16-page memo comes from a variety of domestic and foreign agencies, including the FBI, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Central Intelligence Agency, and the National Security Agency. Much of the evidence is detailed, conclusive, and corroborated by multiple sources. Some of it is new information obtained in custodial interviews with high-level al Qaeda terrorists and Iraqi officials, and some of it is more than a decade old. The picture that emerges is one of a history of collaboration between two of America’s most determined and dangerous enemies.
According to the memo–which lays out the intelligence in 50 numbered points–Iraq-al Qaeda contacts began in 1990 and continued through mid-March 2003, days before the Iraq War began. Most of the numbered passages contain straight, fact-based intelligence reporting, which in
some cases includes an evaluation of the credibility of the source. This reporting is often followed by commentary and analysis.
By the way, someone in Rockefeller’s office appears to be leaking seomthing with some degree of regularity.

Talk about holding your convention in freindly territory. THe Canadian Liberals held their convention in Toronto, Ontario over the last week, replaceing one blithering idiot, Jean Chretien, with another… Paul Martin.
Supposedly, Martin’s priorities include soothing the stormy relations between Chretien and U.S. President George W. Bush. I can’t help but think that would be far easier were the Canadian people to oust the liberals.
The press in Canada, most notably in my neck of the woods, the Main paper in London, Ontario seems to think Martin the second coming of Trudeau.
An interesting, and telling, I think, quote in the London paper….”Nobody has ever built a legacy on tax cuts. ”
Huh? Clearly, this guy is no student of history.

The only interesting twist in all of this is Chretien’s well known dislike of Martin.
Perhaps Chretien got something right, after all.
