Personaly, I think Palin won on a number of points, last night. It is as I pointed out after those two interviews she suppsoedly did so badly on…it should come as no shock to anyone that she does far better when there no Dinosaur media filter between her and the people.

Mike Goldfarb, of the McCain campaign put out a list of fourteen Joe Biden lies.  Evidently, and wisely,  MIke was being conservative.  JIm Geraghty, National Review, details Goldfarb’s list and adds a few more to bump Biden’s total to twenty-two lies:

Below, you’ll find a list of 14 “lies” Biden told last night, distributed by the McCain campaign. I’d just note two observations: first, when you tell stories of things that didn’t happen with the frequency of Joe Biden, coupled with his fervent belief of these untrue and inaccurate statements, I don’t think “lie” is the appropriate term. “Hallucinations” seems more accurate, I think. Second, they missed a bunch, so Biden’s list of li- er, hallucinations is well beyond 14.

Ace disputes the notion that Biden’s factually untrue statements qualify as lies:

I want to stress — these are not lies. Lies are conscious falsehoods told to advance one’s position. These are simply the moronic ramblings of a man who is too fucking stupid to even glean the most elementary information from his day-in, day-out 36 year long job.

Lies would be evidence of a lack of integrity, which is reason for worry, but hey, we’re used to it.

These are simply the ramblings of a senile old fool who was a bit of an imbecile even when his mind wasn’t deteriorating.:

Ace is holding to the definition as of a lie as an untrue statement which the speaker knows to be untrue.   Ace’s arguement is that Biden is too senile to know what is true and what is not.   In any case, I don’t buy into Ace’s senility theory.   Biden’s history of untrue statement does back decades.

What Ace calls senility, Geraghty calls hallucinations,  I call it a willful disregard for the truth.   While Biden may not know if his assertions are factully accurate, he simply does not care.   As Biden lacks a belief that his assertions are true or not, they not hallucinations.  They not a product of dimensia.   As Biden lacks any basis for knowing his assertion to be actually false, they not actually lies.   Biden simply doesn’t care if is statements are true or not.   Biden lett his forty-five dollars ego overpower his dollar thirty-five brain.

If ths were a championship fight, Biden would have been disqualified.   Sarah is going to President, the Gipper is a skirt.

The crap sandwhich, better knon as the bail-out bill passed the House today and was signed into law by the Presedent.    In turn the stock market tumbled, Daniel Dombey et al, Financial Times

The initial reaction on Wall Street was negative.    Maybe the insiders have read actual provisions of the sandwich.

Another weekend is here, but we’ve got lots to cover before we get there. So, let’s get to it.

• Personaly, I think Palin won on a number of points, last night. It is as I pointed out after thoe wto interviews she suppsoedly did so badly on…it should come as no shock to anyone that she does far better when there no Dinosaur media filter between her and the people. (Note the comments here, too.)  Indeed, as Jen Ruben points out, ?
  

  “In short, she entirely and completely beat the spread. Her performance, given how poorly she has fared recently, was nothing short of stunning. And Biden knew it.”

  Yeah, that’s pretty much the impression I got, too. Andhe knew it before word one was spoken, I think.  He knew he was working without the media filter as a net. Which of itself suggests even that grand idiot Biden knows the fix is in so far as the Dinosaur media goes. There’s only one way to account for the difference in performance… that being the media filter in the cases other than last night. But as I told you earlier today, I have my doubts we’re going to see any results on this in the polling for a few days. Remember, the first presidential debate took several days to show up reliably in the numbers, and I think this will be more of the same… with the added mud in the water being that the 2nd presidential debate is going to come along before those numbers stabilize.  Anything between now and then, however, is spin, I think.

• That said, one of the lies as I mentioned this morning, is most strongly reacted to by Totten who I quote all too infrequently here;
  

  In Thursday night’s vice presidential debate between Senator Joe Biden and Governor Sarah Palin, Biden said the strangest and most ill-informed thing I have ever heard about Lebanon in my life. . . . Nobody – nobody – has ever kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon. Not the United States. Nor France. Not Israel. And not the Lebanese. Nobody.Joe Biden has literally no idea what he’s talking about.

  It’s too bad debate moderator Gwen Ifill didn’t catch him and ask a follow up question: When did the United States and France kick Hezbollah out of Lebanon? . . .

  Yeah, well, given her demonstrated tilt, you really didn’t expect her to ask questions like that did you really?  You see? A case in point of my argument that bias doesn’t need to be overt to throw an election.  Oh, and of course there was far more in the way of situations where Biden simply didn’t know what he was talking about. Like the Constitution, for example.  How can someone with all that experience not know this stuff? 

• One more point about the debates last night; Neither one of them wanted to place the blame for our current situation on government. It’s easy to blame Wall Street, I suppsoe, but that’s not where the fault lies. It seems to me, as I’ve related to you many times, the fault for our current situation isn’t that there isn’t enough regulation on private concerns, and companies, but that there wasn’t enough oversight at Fannie and Freddie, and as I think I’ve demonstrated, a willing lack of it on the part of Democrats.  Allow me to give you the scope of the issue; Fannie and Freddie, between them, hold 70% of the mortgage paper in this country.  So, scandal after scandal piles up there and the place eventually blows up, taking down private concerns with it. What do the government types blame? Wall Street. the result of this problem misidentification is increased regulations and bigger government at the exact time we don’t need it. What is needed is a massive overhaul of how we deal with housing financials in this country.  I point to Tom Coburn, on the floor of the Senate the other day:
  

  We have a patient with cancer, and they have secondary pneumonia because of the cancer and we’re going to treat the pneumonia. But we’re not going to fix the cancer. We’re gonna ignore the cancer. Let me tell you what the cancer is. The cancer is Congresses for years upon years have totally ignored the Constitution of the United States and taken to us areas where we have no business being. There is no way you can justify in the US Constitution that the country ought to be the source of mortgages for homeowners in this country, and yet Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac control 70% of the mortgages in this country.
  …
  If anybody in America is mad about this situation, there’s only one place they need to direct their anger, and it’s right in the Congress of the United States. What we’re going to do is we’re going to continue to treat the symptoms rather than directly go after the cause that has created the greatest financial risk and peril this country has ever seen. We’re not going after the cause. The cause is get back within the bounds of the Constitution that very specifically says where we have business working and where we don’t. We decided that we would ignore the wisdom of our founders and create systems that are outside the enumerated powers that were given to us because we know better, we know better. We don’t know better, it is obvious.

  This body continues to spend more, authorize more, and create bigger and more intrusive government, limiting the power of the great American experiment to in fact supply an increased standard of living. We’re in tough times, but they’re going to get tougher until the American people hold this body accountable to live within the rules set out in a very wise, a very providential way that served this country well. We ignore this book, this Constitution at our peril, we are reaping exactly what we have sown.

  I have my problems with Coburn, but this isn’t one of them. He’s right on the money here. But it goes deeper than even he’s letting on. As demonstrated by Frank Raines Jaime Gorelick and a number of others, the place has become a hotbed of corruption. Even leaving aside the highly questionable practice of passing out bad loans with government money based on some wild scheme supposedly intended to help minorities, what can be expected when you try to run such a scheme through a place that has demonstrably been as corrupted as F&F have been?

  Welcome to Detroit

  I see McCain’s pulled out of Michigan. News flash to Michigan: You are in the situation you’re in because of the Democrats you keep sending to office. And you’re going to do it again?  Last person out of the state, turn the lights out.    I had a wonderful job offer there, years ago, outside Detroit… Of course I said ‘no’. Actually, I think I said “hell, no”. I have family that still live in the state… so does my wife Donna. Adn while my memories are mostly of the northern end of the state,  I did frequently visit Detroit, most recently a few years ago. The place breaks my heart. It’s really sad to see what liberalism has done to the place. And while the rest of the state is relatively peaceful and well-kept, it’s also true that the development of the rest of the state is lacking because the people there are so busy dealing with the drain that Detroit has become.

  They’re playing with fire, if so. And however you spin it, Reid is being shockingly irresponsible.

  You know, I’ve been rapidly coming to that conclusion myself over the past several days. In reality, there is no other logical explaination for what these criminals are doing. Even idiots get it right once in a while, but these people have taken the wrong path every time. THere’s only one way to read the data anymore, and I think Reynolds has caught onto it, and with him, apparently, his readers.

• Next weekend for the camping, looks like. This weekend, we’re going to see “An American Carol” Oughta be great. Always liked the Zuckers in any event.

A little dated, but what the hell.

The results of last evenings debate are close enough that the spinners are having problems. Here’s a copy of the transcript.

As you’d expect CBS/CNN polling, for example, seems to feel Biden won. The left-O-Shpere is busy crowing Biden won, too.  Yet, CBS has called every debate since Reagan for the Democrat, so I’m not sure there’s credibility in the claim. And the leftie blogs never had any to start with.  Hell, they’re still focusing on things like Sarah Palin’s sex life.

Bottom line; I suppose and expect it’ll be a few days before we get a real picture of what people think about last night mostly because, they’ll need time to absorb and mull over what they’ve seen and heard. When stuff is coming at you quite so fast you don’t really have the ability to analiyze a lot of it on the fly. I think everyone’s going to need time to pick this over and find their footholds.

As an example of what needs a second look;  there are a number of people who are pointing out Biden’s lies. There were actually quite a few. However that may be, we won’t see the real reaction for days… and frankly I don’t consider the leftie spin to be real voter reaction.

• Nice to see Joe Biden finally being called out on his “I was shot at in Iraq” lies.
• Buffett plans on dumping $3BUSD into GE. No shock, here, that’s what capitalists do.
• The bailout Bill (PDF) went back to the House today, after being passed by the Senate last night. As I predicted and feared, it’s a pork-laden pile of sludge. There is a lot going on with this thing we don’t know about yet, and all of it behind the scenes, and none of it good, I think. What I see in the bill is a lot of stuff that has nothing whatsoever to do with the original problem, or the cure.   Steyn even mentions this aspect.  As an example, Healthcare. Huh?  Yeah, that has a lot to do with the economic crisis, huh?  Do you know, that as a part of this bill Insurance companies are going to have to provide mental health care on parity with physical healthcare?  The costs to the consumer are going to be staggering. Of course the effect here will be less people on healthcare as the governmentally mandated costs drive everyone out of the healthcre insurnace market. Of course once the market is ruined, the government steps in with government healthcare. Looks from here like driving people out of private healthcare companies so government can take over is exactly the plan. And it’s working already… and will continue to do so, regardless who is in the White House. Does anyone remember what happened to private railroad passenger service in this country? Pretty much the same thing, actually. And that’s only part of the stuff tacked onto this bill. So much for a focus on fixing the problem. 
• If you think all this is not about promoting the growth of government think again.
• And think yet again… did anyone note This Ain’t Hell  pointing out thet Dingy Harry had to lie to push the bailout bill?
• In case you’re looking for Steve Fossett, they appear to have found the plane. No body, though.
• I see Obama bought his own channel on Dish Network. I am hearing that callers are threatening to dop the dish and go to Cable if Obama is not gone. Amusing, given the fairness doctrine the Democrats ahve been pushing forever.  Glenn notes it and wonders who he can afford it. He links Ken Timmerman who says the money’s coming from outside the country.

Yes, thrre are a number of idiots  like this guy who will go along with him willingly, who have the ability to process thought a lot better than their support for Obama and his socialism would suggest.  But I’ve begun to wonder if we’re being told the whole story about how much of his support is by way of fraud, and the quite literally, unthinking.

• By the way, that list apparently includes Homer Simpson.  No, I’m not kdding.
• Speaking of the unthinking and disconnected, why on earth would any unions be going on strike now, given what’s going on around us, economically speaking?
• Another example of bias in the media. Note the author of this bit. This is the person we’re going to trust tonight to be fair? Please. Meanwhile this self-same media continues to publish the ‘rape kit’ nonsense like it was fact, in spite of it being de-bunked repeatedly.  Krugman the other day laid the charge that we’re a Bannana republic. I’m starting to think to think he may be right for reasons he has no clue about and likley wouldn’t agree with. Meanwhile, Glenn has a few comments about what can be done.
• However all that may be, and a biased environment or not, the VP debate is in a few hours. The bar is set fairly high for Sarah Palin, because of the two she’s the one with the functioning braincells. All Biden has to do is keep from saying something stupid. Given his history, that’s a tall order. Still, even if he does manage to push his size 12 down his own throat, he still has an advantage, based on that record. People EXPECT Biden to be foundationally stupid.  Palin, OTOH, already has a rep for being sharp to uphold. And, she’s got a fully in the tank moderator to contend with, as well, as Jim Treacher notes. And as VDH notes, this is far more than just one day’s worth of blog chatter. And assigning racial motives to the negative reaction to Obama and to  Ifill  herself, for that matter is as Hanson suggests, simply beneath contempt.  My guess is we’ll be hearing about this for a long time. It may even cost Obama votes.
• Speaking of Obama supporters, how much rock does it take for this to happen?  Or is she really that good to deserve that kind of reaction?  Somehow, I doubt it.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has paid nearly $100,000 from her Political Action Committee to her husband’s real estate and investment firm over the past decade — a practice that she wanted to ban as recently last year. The Washington Times reports the money covered rent, utilities and accounting fees.

Federal Election Commission records show the payments have quadrupled since Paul Pelosi took over as treasurer of his wife’s committee in 2007. His company is set to rake in $48,000 this year alone — eight times as much as it received annually between 2000 and 2005 when Pelosi’s PAC was run by another treasurer.

Pelosi supported a bill last year that would have banned any payments by Political Action Committees to spouses. The bill passed the House but did not get out of committee in the Senate.

Anyone being shocked by the revelation of corruption raise your hands.

“In light of our mission, we don’t think violence against women is a laughing matter,”

And Sue Marsh, Rosie’s executive director:

“[W]e do not believe that violence against women is a joking matter and will not be including Ms. Bernhard in our upcoming fundraising event.”

A busy Wednesday, and a new month. Let’s get to it.

• George Will questions the qualifications of Sarah Palin? That’s OK, I’ve long since started to question the sanity of George Will. That boy needs to come out from behind the keyboard for a while. Go watch a few ball games, George.
• I commented on the Gwen Ifil bit earlier today. An added thouht; What amazes me is that there was ever any question, …including among the McCain campaign…. that a PBS wonk wouldn’t be left-leaning. Far as I know, that’s a situation we have never seen since their very first tax- funded broadcast.
• I see the Senate has now started taking up the mater of the so-called ‘bailout bill’.  I suppose that given the upturn yesterday in the markets there will be some question from some corners if the bailout is even needed. I think this is a little narrow in the vision department, making a broadband economic judgement on the sole basis of the DJIA is never wise.
• I see at least one Democrat is starting to wake up to reality.
  

  Artur Davis of Alabama issued the following statement to “Hannity & Colmes”:”Like a lot of my Democratic colleagues I was too slow to appreciate the recklessness of Fannie and Freddie. I defended their efforts to encourage affordable homeownership when in retrospect I should have heeded the concerns raised by their regulator in 2004. Frankly, I wish my Democratic colleagues would admit when it comes to Fannie and Freddie, we were wrong. By the way, I wish my Republican colleagues would admit that they missed the early warning signs, that Wall Street deregulation was overheating the securities market and promoting dangerously lax lending practices. When it comes to the debacle in our capital markets, there is much blame to go around for both sides.”

  Wel, I said ‘starting’. He’s not quite awake yet. No, there isn’t a lot of blame to go around. This is a failure of socialism, and the Democrat party that embraced it and then defended it when others were calling for caution.

• Is a bailout needed?  I’m still torn on this one, folks.  Understand; I still see this as a simple moral issue; “You broke it, you fix it”.  Thats a position I’ve taken some serious heat for from both sides. My discomoft with the bailout idea now is that I’m not convinced given the current makeup of the government… that is to say, liberal dominated… that the government can ever get through this without mucking it up still further. For all the screaming and bitching about oversight on the thing, you’d think someone would have noted that we’re bailing out Citi, who just unloaded $1MUSD on LaRaza. Will anyone in Congress dare mention this?
• The shift to the Senate seems to me a ploy to get around the objections to he huge mountain of socialistic crap the Democrats wanted to add to the bill that was defeated in the House the other day. My sense is that this thing will pass, eventually, and will be somewhat smaller in overall size. That being a good or bad thing will in the end depend outright on how much beyond a simple infusion of cash we’re talking about. That comes down to the partisan BS we’re seeing. To that point, Extreme Mortman passes on WaPo comments on that bailout vote:
  

  Still, Pelosi deserves no praise for her leadership on Monday. Even stipulating that we are in the closing weeks of one of the most important political campaigns in a generation, her inability to rise above the tendency to score political points was inexcusable. Monday’s vote was a moment to set aside those instincts and talk about the package as an example of Washington’s ability to work cooperatively in a time of crisis.

  Ain’t it real. The Republicans have been demonstrating their ability to work across the isle for a generation and longer.As a result we as a nation have also tilted left. The campaign by the Republicans has turned out to be very beneficial to the left.  Yet, the Democrats have gone hyper-partisan at every turn. It’s about time the Republicans stopped waving the white flag at these people and started raising the battle flag, instead. Are you listening John McCain? It’s clear this ‘reaching out’ isn’t winning Democrat party hearts and minds. On the contrary, they see it like any other enemy would; as a weakness to exploit.

• Which reminds me of a similar discussion on a different topic… Me at OTB this morning, on the subject of Afghanistan:

  Can’t wait to hear the outraged howls as they try to argue against something so obviously true. But it strikes me that the situation with our freinds across the isle is quite similar, if somewhat less violent. Something in human nature there is that requires a show of force to get things done… and Republicans have been particularly remiss in that area.

• I see Fox, tis morning has taken up the cry of ‘Republicans tried to fix this mess back in ’04’.  They were shoing You Tube caps of C-Span, where one after another  the Democrats tried to tell us there was nothing wrong. The same vids I’ve shown you in recent days. It’s a good thing, particularly given that this election is now about the economy, and fitness to lead it. But I wonder as I have in the past, if mere facts are enough to sway the electorate, given that support for the people responsible for this mess… Democrats… was never based on fact in the first place.
• The CBC is issuing an apology for that Pailin thing, as I mentioned yesteray. Here’s a better link for it. And forget it, Surber. I have great respect for you, but I gotta tell ya.. in my read, you wouldn’t last ten minutes in that looney bin..
• Oh.. and the CBS interview with Sarah Palin? Palin need not worry about messing that up much. Couric’s ratings are down so far, even with Palin being the subject, nobody will notice. At some point, CBS is going to toss the towel in. My guess is it’ll be right after the election, regardless who wins.
• When the Chinese pet food scandal broke a while ago, I wondered publicly how long it would be before it broke into human terms. It did that there, domestically, a few weeks back, and was nearly without note here in the ‘States. But it’s still going on over there. One aspect I’ve not seen touched, though is the trust level in Chinese products is most certainly taking a hit world-wide. And that kind of damage lasts, too. In my own case, one of or cats is now starting to show signs of kidney failure.  she’s what, 13 or 14, so I guess under normal conditions, you could consider this to be a matter of mere age. But with so many pets succumbing to Chinese pet food, all with Kidney failure and all related directl to Melamine poisoning in the food, I can’t help but consider the food as part of the issue. It’s a matter of trust, and I suppose it’s going to take a while to rebuild that trust. And that’s just my cat. Think about the ramifications of trust in Human terms.
• Speaking of trust, there’s massive vote fraud happening in Ohio as we speak.  And in St. Louis.  ACORN at the heart of both, and let’s remember that Obama is connected directly to ACORN. Ho-hum. Nothing to see here, citizen. Move along.
• The house of Bit is still planning on a fall camping run on the 11th. Destination is still TBD, but the lean is toward Lake Erie State Park, near Dunkirk NY.
• Bitsblog readers, meet Michelle Allen.  Yep, there’s no mistake, here. Seems to me that this business isn’t so very far out of line with Cow, of the ‘Cow and Chicken’ cartoons. Except for peeing on the neighbor’s frott porch. Or, maybe not. Anyway…  A 30 year old WOMAN, though? Yikes. Imagine the singles bar where she hangs out. I’m sorry, man… but this ummmmm girl… (That’s a woman?) …put her in a football lineman’s uniform and line her up… I tell you, would give Bruce Smith in his heyday, second thoughts.
• What is it with all these Islamic radicals dying of kidney failure? Almost like someone with the power to do such things was a little annoyed. Hmmm.

Well I say ladies and watermelons, before gentlemen.  If  Ms Tara Garnet, the report’s author, thinks that food rationing is so bloody important to saving the World’s climate, I suggest that she lead by example and go strictly vegan begining like yesterday.   After Ms Garnet goes vegan, she  should crawl back to her corner and leave us alone.

These same people who are claiming the end of the world due to global warming…. that is to say, the left… these are interestingly, the very same who we trusted with the compartively simple task of maintaining a mere economy. Given the parallels between this and everything else government tries to do, including the aforementioned Passenger Railroads. Passenger Airlines, Healthcare, etc, etc, please, I beg you, don’t wonder if I don’t consider the prospects for their manangement of the ‘environment’ to be any better, or, given our current conditon, their alarmed cries of ‘crisis’ to have any greater accuracy.

Bitsblog has leaned that Cynthia McKinney’s brain has been kidnapped by undocumented space aliens and been replaced by a defective Chinese CPU:

There is no other pausible explanation.   While McKinney professes to worrry about “Five thousand lost soul”,  I ask the person who stole McKinney’s brain to give it back.
