“FREEPORT, Texas A security guard at a BASF Corp. (search) chemical plant was shot in the shoulder Saturday after he approached a suspicious truck and talked to a man who said he had been taking pictures, authorities said.”
….
The guard told police the gunman was a man of Middle Eastern descent with bushy hair and a mustache. The man was driving a white pickup with tinted windows and a black stripe.
The place has a sizeable AMONIA tank, apparently.
So much for those who tell us there’s no threat to us.

— With all of the attention being turned on John Kerry, perhaps it’s time we examined him in some detail… and I don’t mean his $90 plastic-looking haircuts. It’s no secret that the majority of support for Kerry comes from people who don’t know much about him, and from the hard left.
For all that John "F’ing." Kerry likes to lay claim to his Vietnam vet status, apparently most vets don’t take him as such. Remember where he spoke at the Vietnam Vets Memorial and the vets turned their backs on him, and walked away as he spoke? 
Perhaps it was his publication called "The New Soldier," the cover of which is a photograph of his ragged band of radicals
mocking the U.S. Marine Corps Memorial, which depicts the flag-raising on Iwo Jima, with an upside-down American flag. When he wanted to run for election to the U.S. House in 1972, Kerry decided to suppress reproduction of the cover picture appearing on his own book. The cover is a rare look at this man, and to this day, he won’t let it be published. I’ll post it here however.
Perhaps it was his group; "Vietnam Veterans Against the War" one of the most unabashedly anti-American groups to come to life though the period. As an example, Kerry and his group were in Chicago to disrupt the ’68 Democrat convention. This group was founded and funded by Hanoi Jane Fonda.
Says the Pittsburgh Tribune Review:
"In the last week of April 1971, some 250,000 protesters were in Washington for massive protests against the draft and the war. They were preparing for their attack on the U.S.government on May 4, when they hoped to shut down the capital. Kerry was everywhere, now promoting the pro-communist People’s Peace Treaty, drawn up in East Germany and developed by Tom Hayden and Rennie Davis. The treaty advocated the communist line to withdraw all U.S.troops from Vietnam and then negotiate with Hanoi for the release of our GIs who had been taken prisoner."
That same week, Kerry
testified before Congress, basically supporting the North Vietnamese dictatorship’s positions..
The group continue be as far leftist as they were then today. Consider their statements about the September 11th attacks and you’ll begun to see just how far out of whack these people are.
Then, there’s the small matter of Kerry having supposedly tossed his medals over the White House Fence at an anti-war protest…
Should we have as President, someone who demonstrably
gave aid and comfort to the enemy?
Chuck Noe, in writing an exploratory
of Kerry, reports:
"Sen. John McCain revealed that his North Vietnamese captors had used reports of Kerry-led protests to taunt him and his fellow prisoners."
But about those medals he supposedly tossed away in protest…
New York Times columnist Bill Keller apparently pressed Kerry at one point about whatever happened to those medals. Keller was apparently interested to find them still adorning his office wall. Keller, to my understanding, no longer works at the Times. Wonder why, huh?
Kerry’s affinity with the Communists, apparently still exists even today. Noe also reports:
As chairman of the Select Senate Committee on POW/MIA Affairs, created in 1991 to investigate reports that U.S. prisoners of war and soldiers designated missing in action were still alive in Vietnam, Kerry badgered the panel into voting that no American servicemen remained in Vietnam.
“[N]o one in the United States Senate pushed harder to bury the POW/MIA issue, the last obstacle preventing normalization of relations with Hanoi, than John Forbes Kerry,” noted U.S. Veteran Dipatch.
His affinity with the Communists is not limited to North Vietnam. According to an article no longer online at Slate:
“On May 19, 1994, five years after Tiananmen Square, Kerry spoke on the Senate floor against linking China’s Most Favored Nation trade status to its human rights record.“
Consider the small matter of Mr. Kerry lobbying for renewed trade relations with Hanoi Now why would he do that? Records show that at the time, his cousin, one Stewart Forbes, chief executive for Colliers International, was busily putting the finishing touches on brokering a $905 million deal, trying to develop a deep-sea port at Vung Tau. Such relationships would in the past have raised howls from the left about ‘sweetheart deals’

than granted, his service to this country when he was in uniform was worthwhile, and should be praised. But I am reminded of the old Janet Jackson tune: "What have you Done for me Lately?"
Vietnam Vets Against Kerry states it as best anyone could:
"Kerry’s betrayal of American prisoners of war, his blatant disrespect for Vietnam veterans and the military, his support for communist Vietnam and his waffling over the issue of use of force in Iraq proves he cannot be relied on to protect the best interests of the United States.
Although Kerry voted to support military intervention in Iraq he is now claiming that he only approved the threat of force by the United States."
Now any such individual would certainly be altogether unworthy of the trust needed to be our Commander-in-Chief. But do not be trapped
into thinking that his stands on the military and on world socialism are the only ones problematic. There are other inconsistencies which do not involve his military service, but rather bring to light questions about his sanity or his patriotism, take your pick.
Let’s take the CIA for example. After President Reagan succeeded in ending the Cold War, Kerry made lots of noise complaining about all the money being ‘wasted’ on the CIA… money he complained could be spent on domestic socialist programs. But when these cutbacks were viewed in the light of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, he complained about "the gross lack of intelligence capability".
What of the Flight 800 shoot-down? Kerry has never bothered to explain to us why he not once but twice…. twice… referred on the air to TWA 800 as a terrorist act. More, he never once told us why his Senate Select Committee on Intelligence failed to mention TWA 800 at all in its 1996 or 1997 reports.
Kerry, being honest for a change, appeared on the Larry King show the evening of 9/11/01
(transcript) and said, in part:
"We have always known this could happen.
We’ve warned about it. We’ve talked about it. I regret to say, as I served on
the Intelligence Committee up until last year, I can remember after the
bombings of the embassies, after TWA 800, we went through this flurry of
activity, talking about it, but not really doing [sic] hard work of
responding."
But
John Cashill of World Net Daily reports that
…on Sept. 20, 2001, one mainstream newspaper
broke the story of how the so-called Gore Commission failed conspicuously to
address airline safety. The paper claimed that this failure "represents
the clearest recent public example of the success that airlines have long had
in defeating calls for more oversight."
The paper traced that failure to a series of
campaign donations from the airlines to the Democratic National Committee in
1996 in the wake of the crash of TWA Flight 800, donations likely solicited by
Al Gore himself. That newspaper just happened to be John Kerry’s hometown Boston
Globe.

Here it is: Kerry KNEW about the threats posed against us, KNEW Flight 800 was an act of terrorism. Yet, he not only covered the facts about 800 up, but also then proceeded to distort the facts as regards the terrorist threats against us once Mr. Bush was in office. All for his own political gain, and that of his party.
Can you imagine anything like this getting by when a Republican is the culprit? Why is the question not being asked: "What
did Kerry Know, and when did he know it?"
Even fellow Democrats admit inconsistencies exist. Consider a recent New York Times write-up:
"When it was popular to be a Massachusetts liberal, his voting record was that," said Jay Carson, a Dean campaign spokesman. "When it was popular to be for the Iraq war, he was for it. Now it’s popular to be against it, and he’s against it. This is a voting record that is a big vulnerability against Republicans in the general election. He’s all over the place on this stuff."
I find it interesting that none of this has shown up in the press in the past few weeks; almost as if they’re reluctant to question him on these points.
Because the press isn’t doing it’s job, I had to dig up all of this from older WebPages and reference works. It was pretty easy to find, including the pictures… all of it, from the dateline to the end line.
Thing is, such searches are nothing that the supposed mainstream press couldn’t have done, had they bothered. They didn’t.
Now, ask yourself; Why?
You know why.

In FrontPage magazine Chuck Noe examines Kerry. ‘Bout time someone did.
Some snippets:
He became a celebrated organizer for one of America’s most extreme appeasement groups, Vietnam Veterans Against the War. He consorted with the likes of “Hanoi” Jane Fonda and Ramsey Clark, Lyndon Johnson’s radical former attorney general.
Those evil American soldiers: Testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on April 23, 1971, Kerry claimed that U.S. soldiers had “raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam.”
We are not the best’: In his testimony, Kerry claimed there was no communist threat and said: “In 1970 at West Point Vice President Agnew said ‘some glamorize the criminal misfits of society while our best men die in Asian rice paddies to preserve the freedom which most of those misfits abuse,’ and this was used as a rallying point for our effort in Vietnam. But for us, as boys in Asia whom the country was supposed to support, his statement is a terrible distortion from which we can only draw a very deep sense of revulsion, and hence the anger of some of the men who are here in Washington today. It is a distortion because we in no way consider ourselves the best men of this country ….”

For those who were asking, it’s a ratings system for Blogs that looked interesting. There’s a MESS of Blogs using it.
Blogwise has me at above the 50% line of the blogs they’ve listed, so I figured the results would be nice to see on the EcoSystem. So, I put it up.
Well, I waited for 24 hours for my ecosystem status to get raised out of the cellar, and it didn’t happen.
Turns out, it was my fault. I typoed my own URL in the form and so NZB’s database cou’dn’t find this page.
Dumb on my part.
I’ve sent in the fix and we should see some results more encouraging than the rather amusing “I’m a Insignificant Microbe in the TTLB Ecosystem” by Monday, I suspect.

Third, let’s not whine about ‘racial seperation’ until we see an end

Power Line dismantles the article inn today’s Washington Post in fine style. :
“The Washington Post’s election-year advocacy continues this morning with a news article–not an opinion piece–by staunch Democrats Dana Milbank and Walter Pincus. The article is an attack on the administration’s position that there were connections between Saddam Hussein’s Iraq and terrorist groups, including al Qaeda, and that Iraq had active illegal weapons programs, and perhaps stocks of such weapons.
The purported basis for the Post’s story is the fact that Vice President Cheney gave two interviews over a period of nine days in which he answered questions on these topics. But Milbank and Pincus’s article is not a report on Cheney’s observations; it is rather an attempt to refute them. Their method is to alternate between paragraphs that quote Cheney, and paragraphs that rebut his statements. Throughout, they convey the impression that Cheney is being sneaky, and they are a ‘truth squad’ setting the record straight”

I’ve decided to join BITSBLOG to the MILBLOGS webring for a while.
I want to make something clear to my readers up front; I’m not military, nor was I. My brother’s a 20 year man, but even exclusive of that fact I’d have joined it anyway. Milblogs has opened it’s doors to BitsBlog because of a level of military related postings that are on this blog. I’d like to thank them for that courtesy. Admittedly, most of the mil related stuff these days is connected to the Middle East at the moment…. (how could it be else of late?)…. though there are other military subjects that come up.) I join this ring because I want to do what I can to draw attention to this webring and their writers, many of whom ARE military. Call it one way of mine, to show respect for all they do for us.

“PASADENA, Calif. (AP) – NASA received data from the Spirit rover Friday morning for the first time in two days, easing scientists’ anxiety that the Mars mission had come to a calamitous halt.
The six-wheeled rover communicated for 10 minutes at about 4:30 a.m. and transmitted ‘limited data’ for 20 minutes about an hour later, officials said in statements early Friday.
‘The spacecraft sent limited data in a proper response to a ground command, and we’re planning for commanding further communication sessions later today,’ said Pete Theisinger, rover project manager at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Engineers are eager to pore over data from Spirit to assess the health of the spacecraft, pinpoint any problems and allow NASA to begin working on a potential fix or fixes.”
By the way; Other news form Mars; Apparently, they’re finding ice and water vapor on Mars. It appears possible then that the planet at one time did support life.

Byron York suggests that Kerry is not the moderate he claims:
“Kerry’s liberalism, when he is present for votes, matches or even exceeds Kennedy’s and those of other liberal icons in the Senate. For example, Kerry has earned a lifetime rating of 93 from the liberal Americans for Democratic Action, which selects key votes each year and rates lawmakers according to a perfect liberal score of 100. Kerry’s rating puts him in league with Kennedy, whose lifetime score is a slightly less-liberal 88, and other liberals like Vermont’s Patrick Leahy, with 93, and California’s Barbara Boxer, with 96.”
And dedication to the job?
“The publication Congressional Quarterly examined 119 recorded votes held in 2003 in which the president had taken a position. CQ found that Kerry was present for just 28 percent of those votes.”
Looks like this won’t be as easy as “I have a scream” Dean, but with Kerry’s record, he’ll be easy enough.

Am I the only one starting to wonder about this guy?
Sorry, gang, but the more I read him, the more I’ve got to wonder if it all isn’t just getting to be a bit much for Sullivan. He’s on one of his NPR/Begging for dollars broadcasting kicks again, begging donations, for what is, or at least, was, arguably one of the more commercially viable sites on the planet.
I’ve come to the point where I admit to paying less and less attention to him, perhaps hitting his site every third day.
As I’ve suggested previously, his own internal conflicts are causing logic failures. Sad to see, frankly.
While I’m on the subject of Sullivan, the case, I think that broke my trust of the man, was this one.
I caught a wrap on that story from WIRED today, though I don’t have the URL handy; system crashed in the process of reading it in… some kind of script error, I think.
Anyway, wired is reporting that they’ve nullified the polling they did on the question of Homosexuals and their supposed “right to marry “, becuse the test had been tampered with.
I said at the time:
“The Homosexual groups have been watching places like this for a long while, waiting for an originzed attack on such things. They have a history… a LONG history of doing so. This is merely one more example of such. And Sullivan, being generally a smart guy, knows this. Here it is; I can think of no other path, than Sullivan passing off a lie as an indication of massive support for homosexual ‘marriage’. It’s called self-justification in the face of overhwhelming opposition. Why has every other properly controlled poll ever taken on the matter, shown a massive support for blockage of homosexual ‘marriage’? “
Which of course is exactly what happened.

Out of curiousity about a week after I posted that, I decided to look at the site,and cast a vote myself. What do you know; both my usual mailing addresses had already voted, despite the fact I’d never been to the site before. You can imagine, I was curious about that, so, I read the fine print, and it turns out that the AFA wrote the page to make sure the mailing address existed, but other than a ping, never bothered to confirm that the addressee was the one actually casting the vote. as such it would have been rather simple to pick my two mailing addresses off, say, USENET, or the web, for that matter, and use them. To test this theory, I went back in with an addres I keep in reserve and that nobody but myself knows about, and bingo, the vote went in.
So, clearly, the vote was tampered with by people trying to swing the public’s perception of reality, and AFA was justified in removing the poll; it was tainted.
Alas, that won’t stop the Sullivans of the world from trying to claim their false victory, in spite of all logic.
