Me, elsewhere…
?As far as I can see the primary issue with the United Nations is that they seem dedicated to the proposition that all cultures are created equal… and that they give that misbegotten and extraordinarily dangerous idea the power of government.
It used to be that the United Nations was about Peace by way of individual freedom. To that end was perhaps the most important action the United Nations has ever taken… The creation of the state of Israel.
I can’t think of a better measure the deterioration of the United Nations that this one action is the very one it’s loudest and most powerful members have been trying to reverse for the last seventy years or so. That would include most recent administration of the United States.
I will say this again. I am firmly convinced that as to usefulness of the United Nations as it has evolved the cause of World Peace and Freedom would be best served by dropping a bomb on Turtle Bay.
I add this link for your reading and consideration.
Bob Tis, St Augustine Record, has his head stuck up the late Fidel Castro’s ground temperature posterior.
Our Junior Senator loves to hate the Castros. Marco Rubio was born in Miami in 1971 so this hate for the communists that hijacked his parent’s homeland was probably something he first encountered in his crib.
[…]
One of the greatest indignities that Fidel Castro cast upon the Cubans was limiting their freedom of speech to protect his socialist experiment.
But it was hardly surprising last week when Rubio tried to do the same thing to the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau. Rubio blasted the young politician for suggesting that Fidel Castro was a “remarkable” leader.
Disagreeing with Junior Trudeau is not the same as imprisoning or even executing your dissents. Not that Tis would know as much, much acknowledge it.
I do think it is important to note that Fidel’s first attempt at public life was to run for Cuba’s National Assembly, a campaign that was going great until the heavily U.S.-funded dictator, Fulgencio Batista, shut down the Cuban electoral system. It was only then that the Castro brothers, Che Guevera and few dozen others settled on revolution as their chosen path.
Ok Castro attempts to gain political power through the front door and is stymied by some American tax dollars and one Cuban dicator. So Castro gains power and denies is fellow citizen any democratic right for sixty years. Making Batista evil does not magically make Castro good.
It might be lost on Rubio that his native country was founded by revolutionaries, as well
Revolutionaries who negotiated a peace treaty with Great Britain, established a constitution government, one which still conducting free elections, and something Cuba has not seen in over sixty years.
First the Big Mac inventor dies at 98.
Now this…
Peng Chang-kuei, the Taiwanese chef who invented General Tso’s chicken, a dish nearly universal in Chinese restaurants in the United States, died on Wednesday in Taipei. He was 98
Hmmm
The inventor of the Big Mac just passed on, at age 98.
Read that again to yourself. Quietly. Let it sink in.
Gee. Who would have expected this, except those who heeded our warnings?
President-elect Donald Trump is apparently losing his luster, according to conservative political commentator Ann Coulter.
Coulter, one of Trump’s biggest supporters, made headlines throughout the campaign season for her controversial remarks on immigration policy, with some criticizing her for being racist and xenophobic.
Coulter, who has made it clear her staunch support of Trump was mostly contingent on his hard stance against illegal immigration, expressed that she wasn’t so hopeful her candidate of choice would follow through on his promises. She sent out a tweet on Friday expressing her discontentment with Trump, who doesn’t take office until January.
Says Coulter on Twitter:
Sounds like the big sell-out is coming. Oh well. The voters did what we could. If Trump sells out, it’s not our fault.
Yes, it is, Annie, my dear.
Let’s take inventory.
he is we now understand, not going to build the wall, won’t rid us if Obamacare, will raise taxes, and under Trump we now know we won’t see Hillary Clinton prosecuted.
And now this.
Yes, it is your fault Annie. All of it. You share the blame with all of his supporters who ignored the warnings.
Yes…
You were warned about this repeatedly and urgently. You ignored all of it. This one’s no place else but in the lap of the Trump supporters such as yourself.
Put the dunce cap back on and go take your seat in the corner on the big stool.
And stay there until such time as you explain to us why anyone should ever listen to the likes of you, Hannity and the rest, ever again.
Billy Beck, elsewhere…
I’m actually going to cite That Woman Whose Dread Name Should Never Be Mentioned In Polite Company:
It was Ayn Rand who gave me my first clue to this. Her concept of “pressure-group warfare” is incisive and crucial to all this. The logic is impeccable and conclusive.
Individualism (the original American ethical/political impulse, no matter how badly it was served in the Constitution — e.g.: black slavery) vs. collectivism can never be mediated at the polls. Those two sides will end up fighting to the death.
Right now, they’re trying to avoid this by way of elections, but the nearly even division of the country as manifest at the polls is important. What’s happening is that these most-general principles are holding virtually subconscious sway, at the cost of smaller issues at the edges which might otherwise seem like opportunities for “compromise”. (I quote that word because that’s not what either side really wants. That’s code for “enemy submission”.)
There isn’t going to be any compromise over this basic conflict. Reason is going to be the only peaceful resort.
I see little hope of that.
What we’re talking about here in the end is a Clash of cultures, and not just ideologies.
At the end of the day, this experiment in Freedom called America was only possible with the assumption that everyone was of a like mind to the founders as regards individualism. That is at its root a cultural idea and ideal.
I suggest that it is time for us to recognize that there are some cultural Concepts which are completely and utterly incompatible with the ideas of Freedom that this country was founded upon.
If you’re going to ask which concepts are incompatible as such I would suggest that it is no accident that radical Islam and the radical left have come down on the same side of most issues.
Given the 50-50 balance that Billy speaks of, and the tendency of the left to capitulate to those people whose ideologies are incompatible with freedom, I too am pessimistic about the chances of this being resolved at The Ballot Box.
I fear that the only way out of that box is less than Pleasant to say the very least.
Hmm.
Don’t look now, but maybe a scientific consensus exists concerning global warming after all. Only 36 percent of geoscientists and engineers believe that humans are creating a global warming crisis, according to a survey reported in the peer-reviewed Organization Studies. By contrast, a strong majority of the 1,077 respondents believe that nature is the primary cause of recent global warming and/or that future global warming will not be a very serious problem.
So ABC News reports that it was a Christmas party what brought on the San Bernardino attack last year.
2 points to notice here. First, it wasn’t Islam, it was Christianity caused the problem. At least so says the news report. Notice also the time of year mere weeks from Christmas when this report is released.
Will Dim Won, b/k/a Barack Obama publicly shame ABC News for her fake news report attempting to blame the San Bernardino Islamic terror attack on Christmas decoration, ABC News:
Authorities believe the terror attack on Dec. 2, 2015 in San Bernardino may have been triggered by a mandatory training session and lunch replete with holiday decorations including a Christmas tree which shooter Syed Farook was forced to attend.
Poor innocent peace loving Islamic militant just snaps, for no apparent reason:
The video shows Farook adjusting the sights on his rifle and then firing his weapon at paper torso silhouette targets, one of which was later recovered in the shooters’ vehicle and led authorities to the range.
“They had high powered weaponry, they had lots of ammunition. They had bombs at their disposal,” said Chief Burguan.
And the media wonders why the public neither trusts nor believes them.
So it would appear.
So, where is all the whining about connections to the evil empire we heard about Ted Cruz’ wife?
Uh huh.
And, yes, I’ll say “I told you so”.
Funny, I can vaguely recall when Carrier was a New York State company. Ah, those were the days. I digressed. Back, Little Donny delivers on a campaign promise, New York Times and Little Bobby Reich upset, via Red State:
One of the promises Donald Trump made during his campaign was he would keep companies from moving jobs overseas or into Mexico. One company, Carrier, was going to move 2,000 jobs to Mexico. According to the New York Times, Carrier arranged a deal with President-Elect Donald Trump and Vice-President Elect Mike Pence to keep 1,000 of those jobs in the state of Indiana:
Little Bobby’s reax:
“I think it’s pretty clear Carrier did this because the public relations cost to them was far greater than the short-term savings,” said Robert Reich, a prominent liberal Democrat who served as secretary of labor in the Clinton administration. “Even though it’s political theater, these are real people and the longer they are employed at Carrier, the better.”
Sadly, it appears that Little Bobby did not get the memo from J. Forbes Kerry that air conditioning, except in and for the State Department is evil and must be eliminated.
The Snark of the Day, Neo-Neocon:
In what comes as no surprise to any human being on earth (with the possible exceptions of President Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau, and Obama would be pretending), the attacker has been identified as a recent Somali refugee and a student at Ohio State University. His name is Abdul Razak Artan
I say, let us purge our nation of all unvetted Islamic immigrants. What say you?
The Late Fidel Castro has assumed room temperature.
Little Donny stands tall, via PJ Media:
Today, the world marks the passing of a brutal dictator who oppressed his own people for nearly six decades.
Fidel Castro’s legacy is one of firing squads, theft, unimaginable suffering, poverty and the denial of fundamental human rights. While Cuba remains a totalitarian island, it is my hope that today marks a move away from the horrors endured for too long, and toward a future in which the wonderful Cuban people finally live in the freedom they so richly deserve.
Mean while back at the ranch, lala land, White House
At this time of Fidel Castro’s passing, we extend a hand of friendship to the Cuban people. We know that this moment fills Cubans – in Cuba and in the United States – with powerful emotions, recalling the countless ways in which Fidel Castro altered the course of individual lives, families, and of the Cuban nation [Indeed, just think of the thousands who are dead and maimed because of Castro. That’s “altering the course” alright!]. History will record and judge the enormous impact of this singular figure on the people and world around him.
For nearly six decades, the relationship between the United States and Cuba was marked by discord and profound political disagreements. During my presidency, we have worked hard to put the past behind us, pursuing a future in which the relationship between our two countries is defined not by our differences but by the many things that we share as neighbors and friends – bonds of family, culture, commerce, and common humanity. This engagement includes the contributions of Cuban Americans, who have done so much for our country and who care deeply about their loved ones in Cuba
Ethnic Cubans, and freedom lovers everywhere, rejoice at the death of Fidel Castro. Free Cubans in Miami do so openly. Cubans in Havana do so only in secret.
The Breakfast Scramble:
Hold your horses Little Donny, from Red State:
So can all the Branch Trumpidian cultists stop comparing Trump to Ronald Reagan, now?
In a stunning show of cowardice and defeat, Stephen Moore, founder of Club for Growth, has rolled over and abandoned the conservative movement of Reagan for the populist, Big Government party of Trump.
Maybe some day Little Donny will be compared to the Gipper. This is not yet the day.
Then shades of the Gipper, Little Donny acts in the mode of the Gipper, from Washington Examiner:
Two of the nation’s largest teachers unions had nothing but criticism on Wednesday for President-elect Trump’s decision to pick Betsy DeVos, an outspoken school choice advocate, to lead the Department of Education in his administration.
Trump announced the appointment in the early afternoon, describing DeVos as “a brilliant and passionate education advocate” who is committed to reforming the current public education system and demolishing “the bureaucracy that is holding our children back.” But the unions immediately opposed her
Ronny made a mark by standing up to Big Air Traffic Control. Little Donny stands up to Big Unionized Teachers. Bravo!
Paging Algore, Marc Morano, Climate Depot:
Antarctic sea ice had barely changed from where it was 100 years ago, scientists have discovered, after pouring over the logbooks of great polar explorers such as Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton. Experts were concerned that ice at the South Pole had declined significantly since the 1950s, which they feared was driven by man-made climate change. But new analysis suggests that conditions are now virtually identical to when the Terra Nova and Endurance sailed to the continent in the early 1900s, indicating that declines are part of a natural cycle and not the result of global warming. -Sarah Knapton, The Daily Telegraph, 24 November 2016
The Charge of the Light Brigade, Kristen Gillibrand dips toe in the presidential water, from Page Six:
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is already reaching out to top Hillary Clinton donors about the 2020 presidential race.
Sources tell us that the New York senator has been personally making calls to some of Clinton’s biggest backers to “talk about the direction of the country.”
One source said, “She isn’t directly asking donors about her chances in 2020, but it is implied.”
The woman is a twit. Her pet issue is persecuting college men for imaginary rapes.
