Doug Ross has a fine essay on the perils and the fallacy of gun control. I cite his closing, link:
[Hhistory has proven that the reverse is true: disarming a population is frequently the precursor to genocide. It occurred in the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany and Cambodia under the Maoist Pol Pot. Millions paid the ultimate price for giving up their firearms — and their God-given right to protect themselves.
As usual, the idiots in the press — as well as their Statist sycophants like Bloomberg and Jackson — must ignore all of history. They must ignore facts, logic and reason to claim that they can ban evil and order society to suppress evildoers — if only they can be granted total control over you and your God-given right to defend yourself.
A free citizenry can not survive, when citizens are barred from freely carry arms, but the government is not. Before I give heed to any calls for restrictions to my God given freedom I first want to see Mayor Bloomberg disarm the New York City Police Department and President Obama disarm the Secret Service.
Says IBD:
Welfare: As if being “food stamp president” weren’t enough, Barack Obama’s administration is partnering with the Mexican government to make sure Mexican nationals living in the U.S. don’t miss out. Ay caramba!
On Wednesday, Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., who’s been pushing for reform of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as food stamps, sent a letter to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack asking for details of our partnership agreement with Mexico to promote food stamp use, including whether we are looking the other way in cases of illegal aliens.
The partnership agreement goes back to 2004, so Obama administration defenders will no doubt say if there’s anything amiss it must be President George W. Bush’s fault. But just as food stamp use has skyrocketed here under President Obama, so too have marketing efforts in cooperation with Mexico. Is this an attempt to motivate the president’s Hispanic base?
So, is IBD suggesting Obama’s base are illegals?
Why, yes, they are.
The conclusion is an obvious one, when one considers:
- Increased pressure on states like Arizona to not enforce laws… theirs or the federal government’s… designed keep illegals out of the country
- A demonstrated need by Obama and company to eliminate proof of attempts to find work to qualify for welfare…. after all, illegals can’t work, supposedly… thus making it easy for illegals to live off our dime, as opposed to the legal immigrants who must now prove they have the ability to support themselves.
- The constant efforts to eliminate requirements of an ID for voters… thus making illegals able to vote illegally, much more easily.
And guess who they vote for?
Go ahead… explain to me how there can be any other motivation involved in these tactics, other than a cynical effort to collect illegal votes.
(Cold stare)
OK, we’ve all seen the wailing and complaining about the shootings in Colorado.
We will doubtless see over the next weeks and months more calls for more stringent firearm control. An escalation, if you will of the war on individuals who exercise their second amendment rights.
But, let’s show some actual thought, some logic, and a spine…
Those people who got shot, those who died, were waiting for the police, thinking they had no need for self-protection… that the government was able to protect them. They were dependent on the falicy that the job of protecting them was the government’s and also that the government’s war on individuals using their second amendment rights to carry firearms, was sufficient for their protection.
Think, now; what would have happened, had just one armed citizen been in that room? Just one person who wasn’t a sheep? That one armed citizen could have stopped the situation long prior to the arrival of the police. Many lives would have been saved, many injuries averted.
Here’s the solution. More guns in the hands of citizens. Less dependance on government to do our jobs… including self-protection… for us.
Addendum: (David L) Now hear this. The Aurora shooting was in yet another so-called “gun-free safety zone.” Liberas keep expecting criminals to obey laws, and then want to further restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens, when criminals act logically. From David Weigel. Slate:
Again, though — the theater was a gun-free zone. “That’s where the chickens go,” said Block. “They go to where people are unarmed.” The shooter made a series of smart tactical decisions that minimized the risk of anyone stopping him. “I’m gonna guess one thing. He plays computer games. They’ll find computer games at his house. He’s not military. He’s an educated kid.”
In a sane society, free citizens would have the freedom to carry arms where ever they traveled, and nincompoop would not create, or keep, the so-called “gun-free safety zones.”
Alas poor Dumbo, a/k/a Dim Won, a/k/a President Fifty Seven State, b/k/a President Barack Obama, thinks the average mortal is so incompetent (hello Julia) that he is unable to succeed without the assistance of the state, from the Washington Post, via Professor Althouse:
If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.
The Professor thinks Dumbo merely misspoke:
The boldface part is a blunder. He couldn’t have meant to say that, and he must be really sorry he did. He’s got the core idea there: You got some help. Then, in the blunder, he needed a few more words: If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that alone. Somebody else must have helped you make that happen. Anyone who likes Obama can say, in context, you can tell these additional words are implied. Someone more neutral — me, perhaps! — would say, obviously those additional words were intended, but it was nevertheless revealing that he let it slip out in that form. We learn something about his orientation toward business, government, individual achievement, and the collective, and we should pay attention to that. And anyone who opposes Obama is going to nail him with these words, using them for humorous effect over and over again.
I beg to differ. Dumbo has no problem believing that an individual person is capable of doing great thinks on his own, that is if, and only if, he is referring to himself. Keith Riler lists Dumbo’s affinity for the first person singular from American Thinker:
That’s the essential project that got me into politics. That’s why I ran for President.
I ran for President.
I don’t mind cleaning up the mess that some other folks made. That’s what I signed up to do.
Our economy started growing again six months after I took office and it has continued to grow for the last three years.
[I]‘m running again for President….
That’s why I’m running for President.
And I want to put in place a new clean energy standard….
Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against Al-Qaeda….
I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice.
My plan to encourage innovation…
My plan sets up an independent fund to attract private dollars and issue loans….
My plan for education doesn’t just rely on more money … I want to give schools more flexibility….
I’m running because I want to make sure that every child gets a high-quality education, and that means I want to hire new teachers in our classrooms ….
And I want to give 2 million more people the opportunity to get trained at a community college for jobs that exist right now, and get the skills they need.
And I want to cut through the maze of confusing training programs….
And I want to make college more affordable for every young person who has the initiative and drive to go, and make sure they’re not burdened by thousands of dollars’ worth of debt.
I will not back down from protecting our kids from mercury poisoning, or making sure that our food is safe and our water is clean.
I’m implementing over 500 reforms….
I will sign an executive order clearing away the red tape that slows down too many construction projects.
I’ve signed a law….
I’ve cut taxes ….
[I]’ve proposed a new defense strategy ….
I’ve asked Congress for the authority to reorganize the federal government ….
I have approved fewer regulations in the first three years of my presidency ….
I will go anywhere in the world to open new markets for American products.
And I will not stand by when our competitors don’t play by the rules.
[I]’m sending this Congress a plan….
[I]’ve already sent this Congress legislation that will secure our country from the growing dangers of cyber-threats.
I’ve got a different vision for America. …That’s my vision for America….This is the vision I intend to pursue in my second term as President
And I’m running for a second term as President because we have more to do.
But I can do a whole lot more….
Ray Kroc could not start of hamburger restaurant without the assistance of the state, but Obama can cut taxes, all by himself, apparently without the aid of Congress.
Quote by Scott Ott. Video capture by Smitty, Other McCain.
Newt Gingrich got the Obama administration enraged by calling President Obama, the food stamp President. Bryan Preston shows that Newt was right, from PJ Media:
Under Obama, the government has turned back the clock on welfare reform entirely. Now, about 46 million Americans, a record number, are on welfare. Spending on welfare has doubled under Obama to reach a stratospheric $75.3 billion as of January 2012. The “dignity of work” is nowhere to be found in Obama’s messaging at all. The president’s campaign spent the past week going negative in an attempt to denigrate and destroy Mitt Romney’s very successful business career. In a campaign speech over the weekend, President Obama even suggested that Americans who succeed in business are no better or more hard-working than anyone else, and that they could not succeed without government assistance. His exact words: “If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.” That somebody being government. In other words, says President Obama, Mitt Romney, architect of a multi-million dollar company that fixed dozens of other companies, is in reality just an overgrown welfare queen. And so you are you, if you have a job or own or run a business of your own.
That message, once it sinks in, ought to offend every American who believes in a free market economy. In addition to being an insult to American work ethics and capitalism, it betrays the fact that in that 2008 ad, Barack Obama was merely posturing to fool middle America into supporting him.
As Bryan pointed out, Dumbo, b/k/a Barack Obama, campaigned in 2008 on the promise that work is dignity. Now the Obami work to promote welfare rather than work. We have the No Dignity President.
The God awful, horrid, Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) is lost at least for this term, from Karen, the Lonely Conservative:
[T]he Sea Treaty has been sunk in the Senate. Finally, a little bit of good
Remember the United Nations in unelected, undemocratic and opposed to freedom.

Indeed. As Billy Beck so aptly pointed out…. if you can force me to pay for your healthcare, why is it you can’t force me to pick your cotton? This is precisely why I have such a problem with democrats running July 4th celebrations…. they have no concept whatsoever of what freedom really is.
Winners have no need to demean the accomplishments of others. Ronald Reagan did not. In contrast, losers are always jealous of the success of their betters, to wit everybody else, from the White House via Jazz Shaw, Hot Air:
There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me — because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t — look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.)
The politics of envy.
Words from a successful author, who just happens to be illiterate. As Dumbo, a/k/a Dim Won, a/k/a President Fifty Seven States, b/k/a Barack Obama did not succeed on his own and was incapable of even removing the asbestos from Agincourt appartment, nobody is capable of success.
Via Doug Ross:
Kaus calls this “Obama’s Katrina,” explaining that if Obama is running on his record as a community activist and advocate, it’s a pretty big deal a housing project he had his hand in is an almost-unlivable slum… Perhaps Obama had good intentions here. Trouble is, he has a decidedly thin resume, and one of the biggest bullet points on it reads Miserable Failure.
Miserable Failure, apt descriptions of Dumbo’s record as both a community organizer and as President.
“In the black community, the social and economic tension between black men and women has made black women appear to have increasingly more in common with white men than black men. Black women, like white men, are often the heads of household, often the primary or sole breadwinners in their homes, and they are simultaneously admired and hated (often by black men) for their successes.”

Obama: I Regret Not Speaking Slower And Using Smaller Words. If I Had, You’d Realize How Lucky You Are I Let You Have Me As Your President
You might think Obama’s greatest regret as President would be, oh I don’t know, massive unemployment, crushing debt, or even a couple of hundred dead Mexicans.
Drew M.,Ace of Spades,
Look Drew, you chaps over at Ace of Spades may call your readers morons. In contrast, the Obami are morons. As for the Moron in Chief himself, he has been telling stories all his life. The problem is not that Barry is not telling stories. Rather the problem is nobody bothers to believe him any longer.
From a confused Michael Tomasky, Daily Beast:
But he wasn’t a race-baiter until yesterday. That speech wasn’t to the NAACP. It was to Rush Limbaugh. It was to Tea Party Nation. It was to Fox News. Oh, he said some nice things. And sure, let’s give him one point for going there at all. But listen: You don’t go into the NAACP and use the word “Obamacare” [links to Obama – Biden website] and think that you’re not going to hear some boos. It’s a heavily loaded word, and Romney and his people know very well that liberals and the president’s supporters consider it an insult. He and his team had to know those boos were coming, and Romney acknowledged as much a few hours later in an interview with . . . guess which channel (hint: it’s the one whose web site often has to close articles about race to commenters because of the blatant racism). Romney and team obviously concluded that a little shower of boos was perfectly fine because the story “Romney Booed at NAACP” would jazz up their (very white) base.[hyperlink added]
Mr. Tomasky, I suggest that you are off your medications. Cease posting immediately. Go to detox with Jesse Jackson Jr.
I suggest the the reat that the National Association of [Liberal] Color People booed Mitt Romney is not because the used the term Obama Care but rather because the NAA[L]CP thinks that Obama Care will be free.
Sure President Fifty Seven States, a/k/a Dumbo, a/k/a Dim Won, b/k/a President Barack Obama is an open book. Sadly for Dumbo the pages are blank. From Charlie Spleling, Washington Examiner, video:
Reax:
Carney reiterated that Obama was an “open book” and had an “extremely sound” record of transparency.
Like where are Dim Won’s medical records. Relevant question, because the democrats have a history of nominating dying men to be President, witness Franklin D. Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy.
Will Pervert State University, former known as Pennsylvania State University, bare the mess or continue the cover-up, from WHEC-TV:
An internal investigation into whether football coach Joe Paterno and other Penn State officials helped cover up reports that Jerry Sandusky was molesting children in the school’s locker rooms will be released Thursday, officials said Tuesday.
The report, commissioned by school trustees following the former assistant football coach’s arrest last year, is expected to reveal how the university treated Sandusky after fielding complaints about his encounters with young boys in 1998 and 2001. It is also expected to cast additional light on how Paterno exerted control over the football program while Sandusky worked under him and after Sandusky retired from coaching.
Jerry Sandusky preyed on young boys for years and PSU treated Sandusky like he was royalty.
Addendum I: How deep? Very deep, from WHEC-TV:
Penn State’s investigation into the Jerry Sandusky scandal concludes that Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno and other senior officials “concealed critical facts relating to Sandusky’s child abuse” because they were worried about bad publicity.
[…]
The report says president Graham Spanier, football coach Joe Paterno, athletic director Tim Curley and vice president Gary Schultz “failed to protect against a child sexual predator harming children for over a decade.”
I now await an investigation of the State College police and law enforcement.
Addendum II: Reax from Doug Mataconis, Outside the Beltwey:
hat the report makes clear is that Paterno, and the other officials at Penn State, acted in a manner that was designed more to protect the football program and the reputation of Paterno, and to treat Sandusky “humanely,” than it was to look out for the children. More importantly, its clear that a child predator was allowed to freely roam the halls of the Penn State athletic department, to use his access to the football program to groom his victims, and to use university facilities to abuse his victims. Indeed, the power of the football program was so great that it prevented people only tangentially related to it from coming forward to report what they saw.
I wonder who much of the PSU and Second Mile Endowments will survive after the the round of civil trials?
