The Washington Post pumps out pure bilge:

The task of cutting greenhouse gas emissions enough to avert a dangerous rise in global temperatures may be far more difficult than previous research suggested, say scientists who have just published studies indicating that it would require the world to cease carbon emissions altogether within a matter of decades.

Animals emit carbon dioxide.   To end all carbon dioxide emissions all animal life must be extinguished.  Howaout instead killing all life on Earth, we simply shut down the Washington Post?  All in favor say aye.

Given, the Ciintons campaigned on a promise that a vote for one would get two and Mrs. Clinton has claimed foreign policy experience from from tenure as First Lady.

Given, Power is Pulitzer Prize winning authority on the genocide in Rwanda.

Given, Hilzoy, Obsidian Wings, documents in detail how the Clintons administration did not merely fail to take any action to prevent the genocide in Rwandas, the Clintons administration facilitated the genocide.

Thereforer, if Power accepted the Clintons’ theory of office that they were in fact co-presidents, which is consistent with Mrs. Clinton’s campaign position, and further that Power believed, one that the Clintons administration did nothing to prevent the genocide, and two helped to facilitate the genocide, then Power has ever reason to believe that Mrs Clinton is a monster. If so, Power is only half right, the Clintons are monsters.

WHAT DO ethanol and the subprime mortgage meltdown have in common? Each is a good reminder of that most powerful of unwritten decrees, the Law of Unintended Consequences – and of the all-too-frequent tendency of solutions imposed by the state to exacerbate the harms they were meant to solve.

Take ethanol, the much-hyped biofuel made (primarily) from corn. Ethanol has been touted as a weapon in the fashionable crusade against climate change, because when mixed with gasoline, it modestly reduces emissions of carbon dioxide. Reasoning that if a little ethanol is good, a lot must be better, Congress and the Bush administration recently mandated a sextupling of ethanol production, from the 6 billion gallons produced last year to 36 billion by 2022.

But now comes word that expanding ethanol use is likely to mean not less CO2 in the atmosphere, but more. Instead of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from gasoline by 20 percent – the estimate Congress relied on in requiring the huge increase in production – ethanol use will cause such emissions to nearly double over the next 30 years.

Yeah, well, let’s also not forget that it’s supposed to move us off oil. Only one problem; the costs are going up on ethenol, and the stuff that makes it; Corn for example. Which of course means the cost of food is going up as a result of this nonsense.

It’s like I said the other day, folks… it’s called “Aternative’ energy for a major reason. It’s not the mainline stuff, though it’s a nice addition. Now, if we have an alternative FOOD, we might get away with using corn for our mainstay fuel.

And all that aside, I’m watching the financial news, and I’m seeing signs of a major correction coming in the price of oil. Which means the price of gas will be coming down shortly. I expect stock prices to go sky high, when that happens.  But all this means while the economy booms, gas prices go in one direction only: Down. WAY down, and within the next year or two. Can YOU say, $70/bbl? Oh, yeah. It’s happening, and soon.  I’ll get into this further, tomorrow night.

Shoveling out today, we caught a foot of snow at least, hereabouts.

Meanwhile, the Kos kids are dealing with a snowstorm of their own… one created by Kos, himself. It’s amazing, what some will do in their fruitless attempt avoid the logical conclusions of the identity politics these morons have been pushing for years.

Representative King said very little directly about Barack Obama and said a lot about how the Islamists have reacted and would react.  All King said directly about Obama is that he is weak on national defense.  That much is a given.  Obama’s instincts are not to defend the United States but rather to apologize for her.  The Obama campaign is this strange creature which views foreign enemies as friends and domestic opponents as monsters,

Our freedom needs to defended by strong men and Obama does not qualify.  Barack Obama is the George McClellan for the new century.

The Obama campaign are outraged over the true words spoken by Steve King. They want McCain to apologize for Congressman Steve King saying that Al Qaeda would celebrate if Obama won the presidency. I sure hope McCain doesn’t feel that he needs to apologize for the truth.

Unfortunately, Congress recently sent me an intelligence authorization bill that would diminish these vital tools. So today, I vetoed it. And here is why:

The bill Congress sent me would take away one of the most valuable tools in the war on terror — the CIA program to detain and question key terrorist leaders and operatives. This program has produced critical intelligence that has helped us prevent a number of attacks. The program helped us stop a plot to strike a U.S. Marine camp in Djibouti, a planned attack on the U.S. consulate in Karachi, a plot to hijack a passenger plane and fly it into Library Tower in Los Angeles, and a plot to crash passenger planes into Heathrow Airport or buildings in downtown London. And it has helped us understand al Qaida’s structure and financing and communications and logistics. Were it not for this program, our intelligence community believes that al Qaida and its allies would have succeeded in launching another attack against the American homeland.

The main reason this program has been effective is that it allows the CIA to use specialized interrogation procedures to question a small number of the most dangerous terrorists under careful supervision. The bill Congress sent me would deprive the CIA of the authority to use these safe and lawful techniques. Instead, it would restrict the CIA’s range of acceptable interrogation methods to those provided in the Army Field Manual. The procedures in this manual were designed for use by soldiers questioning lawful combatants captured on the battlefield.

For the record, I approve. Mr. Bush is correct to veto this nonsense.  He has my support in this. More;

The bill Congress sent me would not simply ban one particular interrogation method, as some have implied. Instead, it would eliminate all the alternative procedures we’ve developed to question the world’s most dangerous and violent terrorists. This would end an effective program that Congress authorized just over a year ago. The fact that we have not been attacked over the past six-and-a-half years is not a matter of chance. It is the result of good policies and the determined efforts of individuals carrying them out. We owe these individuals our thanks, and we owe them the authorities they need to do their jobs effectively.

We have no higher responsibility than stopping terrorist attacks. And this is no time for Congress to abandon practices that have a proven track record of keeping America safe.

Exactly so. So, to label this a waterboarding thing only is nonsense, and I suspect it’s planned so. So much of what the left pushes anymore is built on sheer emotionalism.  We are either willing to do what’s needed to defend ourselves, with no holds barred, or we do not deserve to survive. Which is as well, because under those conditions, we won’t.

John McCain, take note.

(Chicago Sun-Times)-He was “the man behind the curtain” whose pervasive influence in the Blagojevich administration stacked state boards and lined his pockets, prosecutors charged Thursday as they opened their highly anticipated corruption case against Tony Rezko. But lawyers for the one-time fund-raiser for Sen. Barack Obama painted a drastically different picture of the multimillionaire, saying the Syrian-born immigrant was a legitimate businessman chasing the American dream.

That was the setup in U.S. District Judge Amy J. St. Eve’s courtroom on a day that featured mentions of two major political players: Blagojevich and Obama.And, for the first time, prosecutors revealed how successful Rezko was as a Blagojevich fund-raiser: An FBI agent testified he traced $1.4 million in Blagojevich campaign contributions to Rezko, 52, of Wilmette.

While Blagojevich, his political fund-raising operation and some of his administration’s hiring practices were front-and-center virtually all day, Obama’s name was mentioned only briefly by Rezko’s lawyer as someone the defendant met while trying to recruit him for a job out of law school.

Well, look, forgive me for pointing this out, people, but as a rule, one doesn’t make it in Chicago politics… at least, in Democrat Chicago politics, without being up to their beltloops in illegal funding… influence peddling, etc, etc…the kind such as Rezko was apparently hip deep in himself. Sorry, it just doesn’t happen.

So, now that we have a solid connection between Rezko and politcal payoffs, and string pulling, we now have a better idea why the name of Obama, certainly someone who came up fast within that world,  is of such great import, just now.  I say again,  one doesn’t make it in Chicago politics… and least, Democrat politics, without being up to their beltloops in illegal funding, etc.

And, Obama certainly managed to make it in Chicago politics, didn’t he? I can’t imagine that were the left-wing press to actualy do their job and do some investigation on Obama, they’d not be able to come up with a evidence of a history the American people would find of interest. My guess is that Blagojevich is looking at some jail time, regardless how this comes out. Then again, he’s not running for President. Obama is. At most, this will sting Obama, but likely won’t derail his campaign for the nomination.

Of course, among Democrats, this being brought up would be seen as a badge of honor, as was the Clintons, and their history of misdeeds. Among many blacks, this will be seen as persecuting the black man solely because of his pigment. They too will take such charges as a badge of honor.

Fortunate, that the majority of Americans aren’t quite so blind to reality.

FWIW, the study indicated that helping with the house work leads to more sex.    So a question for both gender feminists who read Bitsblog,  does trading housework for sex, liberate women or oppress them?

• Snowing in Rochester at the moment. Nothing newsworthy about that, particularly, except that the line of snow as this is being written runs from north and east of here to the south southwest, all the way down to New Orleans. Here, we’re expecting a foot of it. In March.   Since leaving office I’ve written about public policy from a new perspective: outside looking in. I’ve come to realize that protecting freedom of choice in our everyday lives is essential to maintaining a healthy civil society.  Why do we think we are helping adult consumers by taking away their options? We don’t take away cars because we don’t like some people speeding. We allow state lotteries despite knowing some people are betting their grocery money. Everyone is exposed to economic risks of some kind. But we don’t operate mindlessly in trying to smooth out every theoretical wrinkle in life.

  The nature of freedom of choice is that some people will misuse their responsibility and hurt themselves in the process. We should do our best to educate them, but without diminishing choice for everyone else.

  Glenn notes the link, and says that this is better than he’s heard form Obama and Clinton. He’s correct, of course. Further, this is better than the rhetoric that McGovern himself has engaged in most of his life.

  The difference? He was forced by conditions out into the real world, and unlike what he was before, and what Obama and Clinton are now, he’s had some experience trying to survive now, in the shadow of the nanny state he himself helped to create. That concept of making judgments based on real world experiences instead of the ivory tower that McGovern and his ilk have been making their socialist pronouncements from for generations, is exactly why “Politics form the real world” is in the header of this blog. Welcome to the party, George. You’re about 80 years too late.

• Captain Ed nails it on this McCain NYT thing. . Look, gang, our support for McCain is here is tepid at best. But how much more transparent is the Times gonna get? Ya know come to think on it, I wonder if they’re going to touch that McGovern story.

• Let me stipulate to one thing: if this were two Republicans squabbling, I’d be laughing my head off at the moment.

A rare bit of honesty from the left in general and Josh Marshall in particular.  Be aware, Josh, you’ve just eliminated yourself as a candidate for a job with the MSM. It amuses me that you’ve not yet understood that these are the logical consequences of the politics you and yours have been pushing. Heck, even McGovern saw the light. What’s YOUR problem?

Two Ohio Democrats tell The Politico newspaper that superdelegates in the state are banding together to get what they want – withholding their endorsements from Obama and Clinton until they receive what is called a concrete proposal to protect American jobs.

The stance is the first evidence of superdelegates joining forces to use their leverage in exchange for political favors. All but one of Ohio’s congressional Democrats remain uncommitted – even though the state voted solidly for Clinton Tuesday.

A spokesman for Congressman Tim Ryan says the group sent a letter to both candidates last week outlining their views about the economy. But he denies there is any collusion to withhold votes.

Once again, I call your attention to the facts surrounding Unions. This is simply more of what I’ve told you before; Unions are flexing their muscles to secure not more jobs in general… which Ohio demonstrably has had from NAFTA, but more UNION jobs. Is Ohio the last place on the planet to wake up to the Unions and the threat they represent to real working families?

Not yet, since it is apparent at least half of Ohio… Democrats, mostly…  has not, as of yet, woken up.

Now, this is interesting.

It appears based on reports I’m seeing from ABC, that Tony Rezko is $50m in debt, and is living on handouts of $7500/mo.

So, the question becomes, how he was able to buy a bit of property from Obama for over a half million dollars.

The more we peel back the layers of this onion called Obama, the worse it stinks.

Both the Clinton and Obama campaigns have looked in the mirror and saw a monster. Gerri Peev, Scotsman:

Imagine how Media Splatters would reacted had a caller to say Rush Limbaugh called Mrs. Clinton a monster.   Keith Overbite would made Rush “The Worst Person in the World.”   If the campaign extreme leftists like Clinton and Obama think of the other as a monster, imagine how they must look to the average working class American.

No word when, or even if, Mrs. Clnton plass to “resign” her staffer who uttered the Ken Starr remark.

Just so you know, Iran is anything but unified behind Mahmoud Ahmedinejad.
