Hank Johnson (GA – 4) is at it again, Ashley Edwardson @ Allen B. West:
Democrat Representative Hank Johnson apparently wants Congress to extend its tentacles down into your local police departments. After worrying that a planned military build up on Guam might capsize the island
[…]
As The Hill reports, “Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) lamented Monday that recent deaths of unarmed African-American men at the hands of police officers make it feel like “open season” on members of his race.”
[…]
Actually, Johnson might want to check his facts first. Here’s what we found out with a simple Google search:
“According to the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Statistics, the rate of black officers who kill black felons is 32 per 100,000 black officers, which is more than twice the rate of white officers who kill black felons – 14 per 100,000 white officers.”
Maybe in Georgia, the meaning of open season is different? Here in New York State during firearm deer season, about one in seven hunters get a deer.
Paraphrased: Mary Katherine Ham to Hillary Rodham Clinton, What the Flock, over!
Hillary Clinton, whose greatest qualification for president is perhaps that she is a) a woman who b) everyone knows, walked into a Chipotle in Maumee, Ohio today and went unrecognized. She was on her way to Iowa in her Van of Populism on her Road Trip of Everyday Americanism.
Hat tip: Hot Air.
It seems to me, that while Mrs. B.J. Clinton wants to be coronated as Madam President, she does not actually want to do the work needed to get the job. It could be that Mrs. One Percent has not eaten in a fast food restaurant since she last drove a car, in 1937.
Today, I’m in Hanover Pennsylvania. I dragged a load of salt down from Silver Springs New York to this place. I’ve never been here before, and the route in, given the small size of the streets around the place, made it a bit of a challenge.
It’s a challenge I’m used to dealing with these days, though there was a time when I would probably lose 5 pounds in sweat just getting in here.
From here, I’ll Drive up to Carlisle Pennsylvania and pick up a load for Queens.
The truck is working well, and it is a beautiful day. Near on 60 degrees, with some high cloud cover and lots of sunshine.
Yes, I know, I didn’t post around the last couple of days, mostly because I was having difficulty with the software that interfaces my phone to the website. I’ve dealt with that issue over the weekend , and we are back up and running. Welcome to my world.
I see Hillary Clinton got off to a interesting start in her presidential campaign. Right off the bat her staff started with what can only be described as a Freudian slip.
It’s amusing, that the Daily Mail, a London paper, had more in the way of testicular fortitude, when they printed up these talking points about her launch.
Americans have fought their way back from tough economic times,’ says the multimillionaire politician in a launch video
Her chief of staff stepped on her big moment with an email to donors saying, ‘I wanted to make sure you heard it first from me’
Clinton’s press office left an embarrassing typo in its press announcement, saying that she had ‘fought children and families all her career’
Official campaign website is full of biographical material but includes no policy statements or issue platforms
Republican Party fires its opening salvo: ‘Americans need a president they can trust and voters do not trust Hillary Clinton’
Hillary will start her ‘listening tour’ in Iowa and New Hampshire without huge fanfare, and then have a more formal launch event in May
Wunderkind campaign manager, 35, was a child when she was first lady and didn’t live through her defining White House scandals
That nobody printed this stuff in the States goes directly to what I’ve been saying all along, the mainstream press in this country really doesn’t want to tell the truth about Hillary Clinton.
It’s amusing at least to watch Hillary Clinton striking a populist tone, as if nobody in the country knows that she’s a multi-millionaire… With honesty issues, a criminal past, and she shares values with absolutely none of us.
“This is your time”, she says.
Is she suggesting that she’s going to do something that her fellow Democrats, led by Barack Obama didn’t do? Are we supposed to forget, perchance, that she was part of the Obama administration and responsible for a goodly chunk of its failed foreign policy? That the policies that the Obama Clinton administration pursued domestically, can only be characterized in truth as abject failures? That those same failed policies are all she’s bringing to the table now, aside from the decades long history of corruption that is forever attached to the Clintons?
If you mentally correct the typo that is suggested in the article I linked, you see she is claiming to have fought for women and working families all her career. How, specifically? Oh look at her rather meet your output as a senator doesn’t speak to that. What other opportunity would she have had? Nothing. The only thing she’s been doing is running her mouth.
In all seriousness, what is she going to do that hasn’t been tried already? And is this claim for her is a suggestion that obama got it wrong?
Let’s not kid ourselves here. Everybody knows all of this, and the only way let she wins the election, is that those who vote for her turn a blind eye to this sordid past.
In conversation, Brian brings up an interesting point. He suggests that Millennials, such as the one currently mishandeling her campaign, have no idea whatsoever what one on with Bill and Hillary not having been alive then. So, okay, I’m ready to accept the idea that some people might vote for her based on what she says, not understanding that, the last voice of sanity at the New York Times, the late Bill Sapphire said, the woman is a congenital liar.
We here at BitsBlog keep trying to get Vince Foster to come in and do an interview so that we can specifically ask him questions about things like that, but he never answers our phone calls.
Frankly, the only way she comes close to winning the White House is if the GOP doesn’t come up with a genuine conservative to run against her. If they do that, she stands no chance whatsoever. If they run another centrist, will have Hillary Clinton for 4 years.
Given the reaction to the genuine conservatives in the GOP field right now, it seems clear to me that a genuine conservative being run against Clinton, is their worst fear. If the Republicans have brain one they will capitalize on that and embrace the Conservatives in the field. They will reject Bush they will reject Romney and so on. The ball’s in their court as far as I can see.
Then again, it’s been that way for the last several elections, so how that’s going to play out remains an open question.
And down the road I go. I’ll see you tomorrow.
PS.. Remind me tomorrow I’ve got some photographs for you.

Every time a child dies as result of a gun, the hoplophobes rush out to blame the gun culture, from WaPo:
On Sunday afternoon in a two-story home on Cleveland’s East Side, a 3-year-old boy picked up an unattended handgun and shot a 1-year-old boy in the face, police said. Minutes later, the infant was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“It’s a sad day for Cleveland,” Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams told reporters outside the home later Sunday. “Everybody has to know that this fascination we have with handguns, not just in this city but in this country, has to stop.”
“This is a senseless loss of life in this city again,” Williams added, “and it’s directly related to guns, and we need to really take a hard look at the things that we’re doing out there on the state, local and the national level to get these guns out of our communities. Nothing good ever happens.”
To which I say, bullshit! WaPo again (September, 2014):
We know how many gun deaths were declared accidental (591 in 2011, the CDC says). And we know that 102 people killed in these accidental gun deaths in 2011 were younger than 18, according to Vernick, with half of these children younger than age 13.
Circa six hundred accidentals gun deaths a year, in nation with over three hundred million people and an estimated three hundred million guns is unfortunate. It does not qualify as major problem. Over two thousand people die from accidental chocking
Hot dogs can be a quick, easy — and deadly — meal. Hot dogs are the perfect size, shape and consistency to block a child’s airway, and a WebMd report rates hot dogs as the top choking hazard for children. Choking killed about 2,500 people in 2009, according to the National Safety Council, and kids ages 3 and under are at the highest risk. Potential choking hazards include balloons, marshmallows, gooey gel candies, grapes, nuts, chewing gum, carrots, chunks of meat and peanut butter, apples, hard, round candies and small toys kids like to put in their mouths. Reduce your child’s risk of choking by cutting up foods into very small pieces and closely monitoring your children while eating, especially if they are eating while walking, laughing or fooling around.
Can we expect Chief Williams to soil his nappies over our cultural obsession with hot dogs?
Shocking news, if you a a liberal, the Pope is still Catholic, from Henry Samuel, Telegraph(UK):
Pope Francis has reportedly barred the nomination of a close aide of President Francois Hollande as new French ambassador to the Vatican because he is gay.
The apparent rejection calls into question the pope’s reputation as holding more liberal views on homosexuality.
Laurent Stefanini, 54, a senior diplomat and Mr Hollande’s chief of protocol, was nominated in early January but the Vatican has maintained a stony silence over whether it accepts his credentials, officials in Paris said.
Further breaking news, water is still wet.
Good news for all you world peace fans. It appears that the Obama regime and the Moolas of Iran are mere fifteen to twenty-five years apart from reaching a nuclear deal, from the Jerusalem Post:
Earlier on Thursday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani also said that any final deal with world powers must include the immediate lifting of all sanctions.
[…]
White House press secretary Josh Earnest said on Monday that the US would not budge from its position. A phased approach is the only way to incentivize Iran to comply over the life of the deal, he said, which includes provisions lasting between 10 and 25 years.
Josh Earnest has indicated yet another regime red line, and you know how good the regime is at keeping red lines. The devil is in the details, and the regime has got a devil full of details.
A black man*, Walter L. Scott, was shot and killed by a white police officer, Michael T. Slager, in North Charleston, S.C. To date, Slager has been charged with murder and fired from the police department. In short, the system appears to be working. So can the Reverend Al Sharpton call back or call off his rent-a-thugs and not burn down North Charleston.
For more in depth details, see Patterico.
[*] Not that black lives matter. If blacks cared about black lives, they would not blindly support democrat politicians who blindly support Planned Parenthood, founded on the mission to wipe out the black population.
Today I’m just west of Syracuse New York waiting to be unloaded. From here, I’ll run back over to Rochester grab a load headed for Pennsylvania or possibly down to the city.
Raining in mid thirties around here just now. All of these springtime hopefulness has gone for the moment, and there is a gloom settling over about everything. At least the truck doesn’t need washing for the moment. The rain seems to be taking care of that.
Pretty much same stuff different day. Sometimes days develop that way. Welcome to my world.
I note with interest that the United Nations officials are saying that we should be populate the planet as quickly as possible. I noticed that they don’t offer themselves up as a sacrifice toward that goal. With that in mind, I offer a solution. Nuke Turtle Bay. For those who don’t remember, that’s where the United Nations building is. I’ve often considered that that would be a large stroke for the cause of peace as well.
It’s always amused me to see the American Left who wants to see the United Nations running everything, is so adamantly opposed to the very existence of Israel. The reality is, the creation of Israel was the first action that the United Nations ever undertook. Funny how they seem to miss that connection.
The reality of the situation is that following that noble action, the United Nations has done more to enable the enemies of peace than it has to create peace. Often inadvertently, I will more than grant. But that’s the reality of it.
I see an interesting comment by former veep Dick Cheney..
I vacillate between the various I’ve heard, but you know, if you had somebody as president who wanted to take America down, who wanted to fundamentally weaken our position in the world and reduce our capacity to influence events, turn our back on our allies and encourage our adversaries, it would look exactly like what Barack Obama’s doing,”
Say what you will about him, the man still has a firm grasp on reality.
Another person that the left will be going to the spastics about pretty quickly will be Carly Fiorina. Why? Because she apparently has a firm grasp on reality as well. She came out with a statement yesterday that the liberal environmental leftists in California are the blame for the drought out there. She’s right of course, where is going to lie her problem with the left.
She’s also not the first one to make such statements. But she’s the only one of the presidential candidates that I have seen say such things. I’m not quite sure what kind of a presidential candidate she’s going to make, but at least she’s got a grip on reality. And frankly, it’s an open question how that’s going to play with the establishment GOP. Let’s just say she’s got me mildly interested.
I see Rand Paul made his presidential announcement yesterday, supporters put it up on youtube, who promptly pulled it down. I can’t imagine that that wasn’t for political reasons regardless of the excuse they give for the action.
His first problem of course is going to be Ted Cruz. Frankly, I will take either one of those two as a vest improvement over most of the rest of the field. Put the two of them out of ticket and I think it would be unbeatable. Thing is, I think the establishment GOP knows it too. Whether or not they’ll be smart enough to move in that direction is an open question, but frankly I’m not hopeful. Will probably end up with another Romney or Bush candidacy, and as a direct consequence, 8 years of Hillary Clinton.
The reality is if the GOP doesn’t come up with a genuine conservative, someone who is willing to fight for the Constitution and coughing as the way they are, and take back the country from those who have run it into the ground these last eight years, they’re not going to go anywhere. That’s the reality.
Today I’m running from Carlisle Pennsylvania to Syracuse New York. Nice little run.
From there I’ll run back over to the yard outside Rochester, and have another go-round before the end of the week. The weather’s fine, trucks been good, no problems.
The sudden change in the weather prompted an interesting exchange last evening.
“How can it be snowing? It’s 61 degrees outside.”
“That’s not snow, those are moths”.
Welcome to my world.
I see Jason Mc Whorter saying in part, out of all places the Daily Beast
To many, the Columbia Journalism School report on Rolling Stone‘s account of an alleged University of Virginia rape case will seem to be a story about media addicted to seeking sensationalism over accuracy. But the whole sordid affair has been about something much larger: the idea that the pursuit of justice can be separated from facts; that metaphorical truth can be more important than literal truth.
Well, it certainly has been to left as politicians for years and years. That’s how these things get started. That for example is George Soros dumping a couple of million dollars into the riots in Ferguson, to fan the flames.
This is not to say that it doesn’t happen on both sides of the political isle. But it shouldn’t escape your notice that it does tend to happen more often when people have the power of government backing them. There is the key. And it is a key that you often gets ignored.
Another example of story over fact, is the laurels being thrown at the current occupant of the White House over the around deal which even the president admits is doing nothing more than kicking the can down the road, and that’s assuming the Iranians hold up their end of the deal.
Let’s face it, this was all about establishing a legacy, and the White House understanding that the press is all ready and willing to help him do it by spreading the myth, and not the fact.
A few other examples… A.pizza place in Indiana that has never done catering, decided to not cater to someone because of their religious beliefs…. And the world supposedly is hurt by this.
Anti gun laws work so well, and yet the places with the strictest gun laws on the planet, say, Chicago and Detroit for example, are sheer slaughterhouses. our economy is recovering splendidly we are told, yet 92 million Americans are still out of work, haven’t given up looking for a job in this Obama economy.
Now we find out the salt is not as bad for us as they said it was. Wait, I thought this was settled science, like global warming. By the way, hand me my parka, would you?
We were told that we can’t drill our way to less expensive fuel. Yet the fracking boom has brought fuel prices down in spite of the best efforts of this administration.
If you look closely, you may notice a trend here. We’re being lied to, kiddies.
Is it any wonder, then, nobody trusts the news media anymore?
I have had it. The Rolling Stone story of an alleged gang rape at the University of Virginia was dubious from the start. Yet for some reason, the media kept referring to the fabulist, one Jackie Coakley, as a victim. Victim of what? Her web of lies!
Fr
om Encyclopedia Dramatica (NSFW):
Jackie Coakley or Jacqueline Coakley lied about being raped in order to get attention and sympathy
From Naomi Schaefer Riley, New York Post:
As an AP article noted, “Despite its flaws, the article heightened scrutiny of campus sexual assaults amid a campaign by President Barack Obama.”
Despite its flaws? You mean despite the fact that as far as anyone can tell, the story was made up out of whole cloth?
From Megan McArdle, Bloomberg:
Moreover, Erdely’s reporting suggests at least two reasons Jackie might have made it up: She first told her story to the school when she got in trouble for failing classes, and connecting with anti-rape groups on campus plugged Jackie into a social network that gave her a feeling of purpose and fellowship. Had Erdely tried harder to contact the friends whose behavior she maligned, she would have heard a third reason: Jackie had a crush, not returned, on one of the friends she called for help that night.
Narratives without facts are called fairy tales.
As this is written, I’m waiting for an offload in the Bronx. 62 degrees, the sun shining, but traffic is honking, and it looks like it’s going to be hours before I get out of here. In other words a typical day.
A few years ago I was at the George Washington Bridge one morning. There was an accident somewhere down the cross products, so traffic was backed up on the bridge. As soon as I got through the toll booth and the traffic stopped so I did too.
Traffic started up again and when I went to start up I checked all my mirrors out of habit. Looking down my right side I noticed a 3 series BMW parked directly in front of my ttandams with the nose all the way up to the windshield wipers under my trailer.
I sat and waited for a minute or so. Nothing. I wiggled the trailer. Nothing. I actually dropped my air in the middle of the George Washington Bridge and leaned out the right side window and glared at the secretary type driving it. Nothing. I hollered at the woman, what the hell you doing? Get out of there!!
About that time the Port Authority cops noticed that something was amiss and one of them started ambling over to see what was going on. She made him, and took off like a bat out of hell. How she managed to disappear in the traffic so fast I have yet to figure out, but she did. The cop looked at me shook their shoulders and turn around and walked back.
The only thing I can figure is that she was interested in the insurance money. Given I had a full load on that day, I think she probably would have ended up with more damage than she thought she would. She was in for more than she bargained for.
It’s one reason I stress with my trainees, to always check the rear view mirrors, every single one of them, before you move the truck. You never know the kind of crazies that you’re going to run into out there, literally.
Welcome to my world.
I see Billy Hollis over at Q&O reporting that newspaper circulation has been down about half in the last 10 years, permit already record lows.
He goes into some detail on it, complete with table will fall of these major out much better losing their shirts. He suggests, & I concur, that the recent successes of the right are largely due to the lack of penetration of the traditionally leftist newspapers that he lists in his table. You might want to check all of it out.
The success of Fox News however, may point a solution to the problem. Actually giving news. Yes, I know that’s not their purpose. It hasn’t been for decades. But it’s the only way they’re going to survive short of governmental intervention, which I wouldn’t put it past the big government types.
.
And down the road I go. See you tomorrow.
Editor’s note… I was so tired on Friday that I forgot to send this. So, it doesn’t get posted until today. My bad.
….
I have a cold today, so my writing is going to be a little shorter than usual, I think.
The truck behaved well week, and without all the vibration I had last week it’s a pleasure to drive again. I’ll be going home tonight, and probably not coming back out again until Sunday afternoon sometime. We all look forward to the weekends, but I look forward to them particularly, because they’re the only time I get to spend with those I love. Welcome to my world.
With the little side show going on with this supposed treaty with Iran, maybe it’s time to come back to reality. It’s as I explained it several years ago…
Clearly, the peace movement in this country thinks that peace is the absence of war. That’s not true.
They also think that peace can be negotiated. That is also untrue in large part.
Negotiated peace very seldom lasts for very long, and usually works out to a serious disadvantage for one side or the other. A close look at North Korea, certainly the product of a negotiated peace and of an antiwar sentiment here in the United States and back in the days of the Korean war, will demonstrate that clearly. I suggest you ask the south Koreans if they think their existence has been a peaceful one since those days. I suspect that they will not.
Consider also, the negotiated peace of World War One. What was negotiated, most scholars will advise us, led directly to World War Two, which was an even bigger and bloodier conflict.
I dare to propose to you, that peace is the product of having overwhelmingly won the war, and of showing the resolve to take on all those who would disturb that peace, thus removing war as an option for them.
As examples of this, let’s look at Germany and Japan in the years following World War Two. I suspect and suppose that there are very few indeed who will complain that the actions and intentions of the German and Japanese peoples following World War Two, were anything but peaceful.
Demonstrably, these two countries have been among the most peaceful countries on the planet, and have been stalwart friends of freedom. I suggest this is a direct result of having won the wars against Germany and Japan in overwhelming fashion, and showing a continued resolve to take it on any world power who decides for whatever reason to act unpeaceably.
The leftist “peace” movement in this country with its call to unconditionally separate us from our ability to respond to war making is in fact exposing us to aggressors, thereby causing more bloodshed, and certainly causing a loss of freedom throughout the world. They would have us negotiating with every ten pot dictator that comes along, in the hope of avoiding bloodshed. ( The name of Neville Chamberlain pops into mind, unbidden.)
Now, all of that addresses the general concept of trying to negotiate this through. Then we get into the specifics of who it is we are trying to negotiate with.
History shows clearly that those under the influence of Islam, use negotiations as they would any other weapon… Against their enemy. There has been no case in history where they have held to any peace treaty. None. On what basis are we to assume that it’s going to work this time?
Then we have Obama. Who has made so many promises, none of which have come true, that he is deserving of absolutely zero trust from either us or the Iranians. This deal is so important, that we can’t hear the details. We just have to pass it to see what’s in it. We tried that with Obamacare if you’ll recall. How’d that work out?
No. There is nothing about this that is deserving of our trust. This administration’s bumbling will succeed in getting nuclear capability into the hands of Mad Men. And that works counter to peace. No matter how you look at it.
And down the road I go. I’ll see you Monday.
How much does the lame stream media react to the a failure to embrace, support and indeed celebrate the homosexual lifestyle, what the media calls homophobia? Will it all depends. The lame stream media has different standards for different communities who happen to chose not to celebrate the homosexual lifestyle?
A family owned pizzeria in Indiana, when asked by a reporterette with an agenda, if they would cater to small sex wedding, says no. The media goes nuclear.
Reax, Patterico:
Stop the presses! A family-owned pizza parlor in a small town in Indiana says, not they would refuse to serve pizza to gays, but that they would not cater a gay wedding if asked to . . . which they certainly never would be. I see no evidence that the owners sought out the media to make this statement; rather, it sounds like some ABC reporter was walking from business to business asking if they would cater gay weddings, no matter how unlikely, and found someone who said they wouldn’t.
The media is not afraid, and more than willing, to offend a Christian. Get a Christian, and he is apt ask for you to be forgiven. Then on the other hand, offend a Muslim, he is apt to seek to kill you, video:
Hat tip and reax from Darleen Click, Protein Wisdom:
Now, anyone want to take bets on if any of the Left fascists who have gone after Memories Pizza, forcing it to shut down due to threats, will make even one peep about these particular businesses?
Bravo to Steven Crowder!
Does the media just hate Christians or is it just plain afraid of Muslims? What difference does it make? Apparently, the lame stream media believes it acceptable for you not to cater to homosexuals, provided you also believe they should be hanged.
Chris Christie has about as much chance of being elected President of the United States, but he did make on small step in the direction, from Charles C. W. Cooke, National Review:
Herewith, a beautiful sight: This is Chris Christie pardoning Shaneen Allen, a single mother from Pennsylvania who had been prosecuted for taking a concealed weapon into New Jersey in violation of the law:
[…]
Allen has come a long way. At first it looked as if her mistake — she did not realize that her Pennsylvania concealed carry license wasn’t valid in every other state — was going to land her in prison for more than a decade, cost her her job as a medical practitioner, and take her away from her children.
Christie and his Peoples Republic of New Jersey leave of dirty taste in the mouths of freedom loving people. One small step for liberty in New Jersey, and one painfully small step on Christie’s road to credibility.
Would it be remiss of me not to give a warm Joe Biden shout out to the Reverend Al Sharpton loud and vocal efforts to free Allen?
Hat Tip: Ace.
