There’s always something new to see in the BitsBlog Pages… and we’re getting new stuff in all the time, even when I don’t mention it here.

I was just listening to a fairly uninspired discussion on NPR about race and the coverage of the Democratic primary (while driving to the airport). One interesting tidbit from the Washington Post’s Kevin Merida is that the Obama campaign has met with some serious racial antagonism in Pennsylvania. How extensive it was I couldn’t gather from the conversation. But the n-word was tossed around, some signs burned etc.

Now, let me ask you something. If there was a similarly viable black guy running for president in the GOP primary and he met with anything like this sort of thing, don’t you think there’d be more than a little Krugman-like hysteria about how racist the GOP is? About how conservatism = racism? About how the curtain had been pulled back on the “true nature” of the Republican Party?

But when this happens among Democrats, it seems not to dawn on anyone to make any connection whatsoever between the Democratic Party or liberalism or anything of the sort and racism. Rather, to the extent these things are discussed at all, they are more proof of “America’s original sin,” in the words of one of the panelists.

Look, Jonah, I hold no illusions about the numbers of people reading this blog, but I’ve been pointing out for quite some weeks now, that the whole of the Democrat primary campaign has boiled down to racism vs Sexism. If you vote in the primary for Obama, you’re sexist because you won’t vote for a woman. If you vote for Hillary Clinton, you’re a racist because you won’t vote for the black guy. And Democrats were supposed to be ABOVE racism and sexism. Guess all that goes out the window when you’re in the midst of a power grab.

One such mention, last month:

Ummmm…. Hold up a tick, here. WHAT position? Since she’s a Clinton supporter, she’s talking about sexism against Hillary, as opposed to racism against Obama. We’re still in the primary, and so the position she’s describe is driven by DEMOCRATS. I’ll get into this at need, but I suspect the implications here are clear to you already. Like I said at Q&O yesterday, identity politics is of course, by its very nature, racist, sexist, etc. The real fun comes from watching its adherents try to avoid that basic fact. And, yes, I’m just waiting for someone to call me a bigot for saynig that. You watch; it’ll happen.

I mentioned this nonsense again tonight in the Ramble, in fact. Trust me when I tell you, it’s being noticed, too, though not nearly by the numbers I’d like to see.

For clarity: The very reason that they can’t seem to recognize their own racism and sexism is that the very root of their political identity is based on group politics.  For all the screaming about how racist and sexist everyone else is, the real core of racism and sexism today, is the Democrat party.

Put another way, Jonah… it’s called projection.

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands – An Amsterdam publishing house said Wednesday it will release a biography of Jesus written by filmmaker Paul Verhoeven.

Verhoeven is best known as the director of blockbuster films including Basic Instinct and Robocop, but he is also a member of Jesus Seminar, a group of scholars and authors that seeks to establish historical facts about Jesus, said spokeswoman Marianna Sterk of the publishing house J.M. Meulenhoff

Asides:  Old story, no proof, no theological standing.   Why is this even news?

Note the dateline.   Would Verhoeven have the balls to publish a story about a Islamic historical figure?   Most likely not.

So where are the Dutch riots?   Where are the calls to behead Verhoeven?    Why is not safe to demean Islam but safe to demean Christianity?    Is it even acceptable to note the difference in tolerance between Christians and Muslims?

• I was a little more than slightly tounge in cheek when I suggested last night that it would take a week for the primary returns to show up. We’ve seen it take just that long in other cases this cycle, and longer. Given the speed with which the returns popped up last night, the change is remarkable.
  But you know, I can’t help but wonder if the speed of the returns in the particular states isn’t at least partly a response to an issue of returns coming back fast or slow is not directly related to Hillary Clinton’s looking good as a result of the info being released in a timely fashion, or not.
  As an example, a close loss, gets mulled over ala Florida 2000, until everyone’s so bored, they’re not paying attention, anymore. Thus her losses are jnot as widely remarked as her victories, say, last night, as an example.
  I more than grant you, this is speculation. But it would match the HRC we’ve come to know very well… very well, indeed. It’s a smaller point than the one I made earlier today about 68 repeating itself, but still worth the mention.
• The big question at all the nets, these days is why Obama can’t, as Clinton likes to say, “Close the deal”. The reason is simple enough.. and I say ‘reason’, singular, since there’s really only one answer. The Demorat party of today has been plaing  one group against the other for so long that the factionalization that gave them so much power for the last few decades, has started taking over the party itself. In this case, the two groups are blacks, and women. I mean, look at the positioning of the candidates; If you vote in the primary for Hillary Clinton,  you’re a racist, because Obama is black. Similarly, if you vote for Obama, you’re a sexist, against women. I’ve been saying it for years, now; the worst thing one can do is give a Democrat exatcly what they demand. they demanded that we get more blacks and more owmen into the political process. Having done so, and presented with the choice between two of their favored groups, they freeze up and break apart faster than the starter on my old Z-28 when it got hot. How can a party which is so predominantly based on explioting differences for it’s own gain, ever be unified, even when it’s own power is at stake? the answer is before us; They can’t.
• I take this news about Tony Snow as an ominous sign. I like Tony, always have. He seems a likable enough sort, that it’s hard NOT to like the guy. Let’s say I’m concerned, here and let it go at that, for the moment.
• I’m not even going to touch  this.
• John Lott makes the obvious point that ‘Gun Free’ zones are not safe.
• You’d better hope Global warming is true, because otherwise we’re going to freeze. Once again, sunspots are the issue.
• You didn’t REALLY think they had a plan, did you?

You gotta give Jimmy Carter credit.   While Carter lacks brains, he sure has balls.   Fresh off being shown to be a liar by Hamas, Carter has called Condoleezza Rice a liar, Steve Gilbert, Sweetness & Light:

We are expected to believe Ms. Rice over a man who has seen a UFO and been attacked by a rabbit?

JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — Paul Davis, a singer and songwriter whose soft rock hit “I Go Crazy” stayed on the charts for months after its release in 1977, died Tuesday. He was 60.Davis’ other popular hits included “65 Love Affair;” “You’re Still New To Me,” a country duet with Marie Osmond; and “Ride ‘Em Cowboy.”

Yeah, no doubt the guy was all over the charts, back in the day. For years, I couldn’t get through a day without ending up spinning at least one of his records, on air. He was in fact “easy rock” before there was such an animal, and so crosscharted rather neatly.

Victor Davis Hanson pretty much agrees with my read of Clinton’s PA win last night:

Hillary won just enough to show that it is ludicrous to oust a 10-point winner at this late junction, but not quite the blow-out that might cause a stampede to her in the next few states.

He goes on from there to suggest the worst of all possible scenarios for the Democrat party:

The Democrats are tottering at the edge of the abyss. They are about to nominate someone who cannot win, despite vastly out-spending his opponent, any of the key large states — CA, NJ, NY, OH, PENN, TX, etc. — that will determine the fall election. And yet not to nominate him will cause the sort of implosion they saw in 1968 or the sort of mess we saw in November 2000.

This situation has been noted before, and I note even Sullivan is saying the same thing this morning. (Interesting that it took this thing getting this far along to get Sullivan to comment openly about it, but I digress)

Patrick Henry:

” I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience. I know of no way of judging of the future but by the past.”

This cycle has much in the way of history surrounding it, and from that history I think, we have our only reasonable conclusions to be drawn from the data we have in hand.

In looking at the lay of the land and the timing of events leading to Clinton’s win last night though, I note that this is the first vote taken, post ‘bittergate’. I also note the breakouts from last night (Which came in amazingly quickly, as compared to that of other states.. I wonder why?) which suggest that Clinton won most remarkably with those who Obama slighted in his comments.  One cannot help but think the chances are rather high that she will score well among such people in the remaining states, and THAT, in turn will result in victories she would not have had, otherwise. Kentucky, for example, and Oregon.

All of that ends up with a very close primary race, indeed, which, I think, when decided by the party muckties, will cause a ’68 style implosion, as Hanson suggests.

All this is 68 all over again, gang, in more than this. Nixon won in a landslide, not only because the Democrats were in such disarray, but before he was a very liberal Republican…. as is McCain. And should we recall, also, that Chicago was the site of the Dems convention that year, along with the camping site of every left wing crazy who could scrape up a ride to the place… and that both Hillary and Obama are very deep with their Chicago roots?

Those who don’t learn from history, are Democrats.

Interesting bit in NewsBusters, this morning…. By the way, NewsBusters is a regular read here, and soon as I geta  few seconds I’ll add it to the list…. anyway… It seems that, despite unemployment edging up everywhere else in the country,  unemployment in Oklahoma has been dropping rather quickly. And we’ve not been told about this? Why?

Well, one thing Oklahoma did last year was to pass an enforcement-focused immigration reform law.

It did so in May, and it took effect in November. Here is how One News Now described the bill at the time it was signed by the state’s governor (original link no longer available):

House Bill 1804 was passed by overwhelming majorities in both the House and Senate of the Oklahoma Legislature. The measure’s sponsor, State Representative Randy Terrill, says the bill has four main topical areas: it deals with identity theft; it terminates public assistance benefits to illegals; it empowers state and local police to enforce federal immigration laws; and it punishes employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens.

Oklahoma is no longer “O.K.” for illegal aliens, Terrill observes. “When you put everything together in context,” he contends, “the bottom line is illegal aliens will not come here if there are no jobs waiting for them, they will not stay here if there is no government subsidy, and they certainly won’t stay here if they know that if they ever encounter our state and local law enforcement officers, they will be physically detained until they’re deported. And that’s exactly what House Bill 1804 does.”

The Oklahoma legislator is pleased the bill he sponsored into law was signed by Governor Henry and believes it will go a long way to curb the illegal immigration problem in the state.

 

This thing kills off so many myths about illegals and the effects of keeping them where they should be… out of the country… I can’t begin to list them.

Sorry, but I’m not impressed with Hillary Clinton’s showing, last night. On that point let me stress that it doesn’t change much, in terms of the nomination and who gets it. She’s kept herself afloat, but that’s about it. 

Lest there be any doubt on my position, here…  I’ll certainly never be a Hillary Clinton backer. I think the woman belongs in a small room staring at vertically striped sunlight. That said, however, I’m far less impressed with Josh Marshall, who clearly allowed wishful thinking to overcome reality in his Talking Points Memo comments last night:

As you may have noticed Drudge has up what he says are 5 PM exit poll numbers showing Clinton 52%, Obama 48%. I suspect they are ‘accurate’ as far as early, un-weighted exits can be. But let me point out that my recollection is that pretty much all the early and unweighted exits we’ve seen this cycle have turned out to be wrong. And often very wrong. So this has to be taken with a real grain of salt. And that’s assuming they’re not made up entirely.

Late Update: Jim Geraghty at NRO has Obama 52%, Clinton 47%.

And to be clear, when I say take them with a grain of salt, I don’t mean that in the garden variety, being responsible, ‘we don’t know for sure yet’ kind of way. I really mean that these early unweighted numbers have routinely been way, way off.

What I don’t know. Was Mrs. Clinton’s win in Pennsylvania impressive?  Jim Geraghty National Review, listed several confounding factors.   We’ve got Bitter, Tuzila, BO outspending Mrs. Clinton what three to one, Mrs. Clinton invoking Usama bin Laden and Rush’s operation chaos.    Geraghty wasn’t able to weigh all those factors, and I certainly can not. 

What I do know.   Camp BO was talking about a low single digit loss.  BO certainly failed to delivery as he promised.

Let us see what happens in Indiana.

In fairness, I thought we’d be dealing with a single digit loss, as well, though I was thinking high singels, say, 9% or so, I did’t say as much.  Still, that missed, too. the only thing that’s going to save face for Obama now is irregularities in the voting. ANd trust me on this, they’re already looking at that. You will recall, perhaps, that we had sections of Philly in 2000 and 2004 that saw 125% of registered voters turning out to vote Democrat.

Either way, personally, I’m delighted; these two are going to keep slugging at one another for a few more weeks.

There is new evidence of misleading information in Al Gore’s Oscar-winning global warming film “An Inconvenient Truth.”

ABC News reports one of the most famous shots in the movie — of Antarctic ice shelves — is a fake. The film’s visual effects supervisor says the film took the shot from the fictional movie “The Day After Tomorrow,” which created it from Styrofoam and scanned it into a computer.

“Yeah, that’s our shot,” she says. “That’s a fully computer-generated shot. There’s nothing real in there.”

ABC wanted to ask Gore whether it was wrong for a documentary to use a fabricated shot to make a point, but says he did not return their calls.

You have to wonder, how many viewers of Gore’s film, repeated Pickens’ line…

You’ll forgive me if don’t bust a gut getting every breath of info out about the Clinton victory in PA tonight, given it was a done deal a week ago. The question becomes, though, by how much? And that question, given what we have seen of Democrat party doings in other states could take days/weeks to find out.

I said this before, today, but I know there’s going to be a fair amount of traffic headed for this one link, so I’ll say it again here:

Winning by single digits won’t do anything.
Winning by 10-20% will keep her nose above water, but that’s all.
The only thing that is going to do Hillary Clinton any good at all is 20% or more.

• Look, Billy, I’m somewhat sympathetic to the argument, but let’s not lose sight of the fact that they went to this place with the specific goal in mind of pissing off the constabulary. To what end? Don’t tell me about how these morons were on some kind of freedom crusade, because I’m not buying it. Let’s also not lose sight of the fact that it’s pretty much understood that the monument area is pretty much out of bounds past sundown, unless you’ve budgeted for holdup money. That, if nothing else, has to affect the attitude of the local cops. And doesn’t anyone find the concept of self-professed libertarians gathering at the shrine of Jefferson… symbol of the Democrat party, which in it’s turn is the largest enemy of libertarian thought? I mean, granted, I think Jefferson would disown the Democrats given the chance, but there it is…
• I’m watching this business in Texas… that sect of the Mormons…all those kids who aren’t sure who their parents are, etc… with a somewhat jaundiced eye. I’m non-plussed at the government’s handing of this, but in fairness, I wonder how else it could be done better. Bottom line at least at the moment is, I don’t think it can be. But you know, there’s an issue here that’s been bothering me a bit with all of this, and it’s a practical one; Not only do we have some very troubled kids as a result of this, (to say nothing of the erstwhile parents) who are doubtless going to need lost in the way of counseling, at least, we’re dealing with multiple generations of this kind of forced paring. Are we dealing with any genetic issues in the group, as a result? What happens when we let these folks out into society?
• The Oil bubble hasn’t popped yet… 117 today… but trust me, when I say it will.
• Secretary of State Rice says the White House clearly told former President Carter not to meet with Hamas leaders in Egypt, says Fox. So why isn’t Carter in jail, Condi? Let’s get it done.
• Around here, it’s nice. High 75, today. Sunny, until the weekend, we’re hearing, now. Hated missing the sleep but it was kinda nice being woken up by the birds through the open window, last night. Only drawback; they crank up at about 04:15.
• Both Clinton and Obama have been downplaying expectations, today, in advance of the vote in PA. Polls opened there at 7 this morning, and voting is brisk today, we’re being told.  Weather’s as good down there as it’s been here along the South shore of Ontario, so that’s not a factor. As I said yesterday however, even assuming Hillary Clinton wins PA, it changes nothing.  That floor fight in Denver should be amusing.
• Nice to see Boortz echo my read and David’s, too…of the Jimmy Cater thing. I didn’t comment on David’s post because he hit the thing square, to the point where I had nothing to add. So does Boortz. Grated minds make a nice toping for pasta, after all.
• I guess I’m not overly shocked that nobody picked up on the Richard Quest story we ran here yesterday morning. Just a little disappointed.  Maybe, it’s so commonplace, anymore that… nah… I’m not even sure I buy that. I suspect it’s more a situation of hoping the problem will disappear before someone notices the trend I mentioned.
• With this Earth day’s passing, it’ll be educational to see why one person decided to leave Greenpeace. Mostly, I figure because he was being honest. If more people were, Greenpeace wouldn’t exist, and Al Gore would be Al Who? Imagine there’s no Greenpeace. It’s easy if you try. Advancement of man unhindered. No ‘Global Warming” cry. You may say I’m a dreamer. But I’m not the only one. I hope someday, we’ll find a way… to hurl Al Gore into the sun.
