It can be argued that modern plumbing has done more to  improve the quality of modern life than anything, even the bread slicer.   Certainly no blue collar trade contributes more to the quality of life than does plumbing.   Yet having said this, I ask, don’t libtards use toilets, video:

I mean its three in the morning and your toilet all backed-up. Who are you going to call – a politician? When your toilet is back-up you need to get rid of your crap, and not get yet another load of it.   One does not have to drive a honey truck to appreachiate the job those who drive them do.

Being conservative means you don’t have to apply a litmus test to decide for which Ameicans are worth fighting.   On the other hand, Senator BO.

• Market went up another 300 points this morning. Lost most of that in the afternon, then got it back again. Another wild ride, and this is apparently becoming the norm.  Guess I can postpone jumping off that building, though.
• Oil’s down below $70. Iran is screaming for a meeting of OPEC. Other members aren’t so worried. Again, this comes down to Iran’s cost of recovery being at $90/bbl, given their delapidated infrastructure.
• McCain went on Letterman last night. Drew the most viwers Letterman has had in three years. Does that tell you anything?

  The polls are narrowing between Obama and McCain. We have Gallup polls showing that McCain is within 2 points of Obama with a 49-47 margin. McCain did a good job in the debate, but will it be enough to last him 18 days and give him enough to get the edge on Obama? I would like to think so, but I’m not too confident. How can that many voters actually mature in just 18 days? I would have thought that the “we need to spread the wealth around” comment would have been all it took.

  Look, Neal, you and I and the people who listen to talk radio and read our sites, they’re policical junkies. Most people… even ones who vote each year… really don’t know much about what’s going on around them, nor do they care, until a choice is called for.  Joyner points this out at OTB yesterday. So, it’s not until the last few weeks that these folks start gathering information.  We’ve now entered that period, and that is one big reason McCain’s numbers are trending up, while Obama’s are trending down.  The question before us is will those trends continue. And as I said this morning, I think the Gag reflex will ensure they will.

The U.S. Supreme Court agreed with Democratic Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, granting her a stay on Friday to a temporary restraining order from the 6th Circuit Court that ordered her to provide a system for implementing voter fraud prevention methods.

The decision by the full court repudiates the lower court’s ruling siding with the Ohio Republican Party and ordering Brunner to verify records of about 200,000 of 666,000 new voters this year whose driver’s license and Social Security records don’t match information in other government databases.

What the court has done here is empower those employing voter fraud. And yes, I include Brunner in that group.

We are confident that at this very moment, Andrew the Excitable, is trying  to track down Trig Palin’s medical records to prove that Mr Wurzelbacher is Trig’s real mother.

David’s quote of Ed Morressy seems to me quite on the money. Consider the operative phrase of Ed’s very first line: “Stench of Desperation”.

And what is driving this desperation, you may ask? Wasn’t Obama ahead? What explains this?
Well, he used to be ahead, yes. As for what explains it, note with me, the Boston Herald, this morning… the Herald hardly being a paper noted for it’s right-wing proclivities:

Gallup has Obama’s curve losing altitude, leaving him with a 49-43 percent advantage over McCain. It also marks the first time Obama has dipped below 50 percent since the first of the month.

The Rasmussen Daily poll has Obama up 50-46. It’s the first time McCain has hit 46 percent, but Rasmussen predicts Obama still has an 84.3 percent chance of winning based on Electoral College votes. (270 electoral votes are need to move into the White House.)

Well, yes, but that’s based on the current numbers… not the trends, which are moving in McCain’s direction. It’s clear that McCain’s performance at the third debate resonated. It’s equally clear that Joe the Plumber is a popular figure… possibly more popular than Obama himself. It’s thereby that Obama’s smear tactics, and his attempts to silence Joe, are backfiring.  And here’s the thing… They know it.

Mark Hemmingway, this morning:

….the way the pro-Obama media and bloggers, and Obama himself, have responded to Joe has got me nearly shaking with rage. They are attempting to destroy a man — a private citizen — who had the audacity to ask The One a question. Mind you, Joe was on his front lawn playing football with his son when Obama strolled up to give him his hopenchange spiel. Obama approached Joe, not the other way around. And Joe asked Obama an honest question. And Obama gave him an honest — and very, very revealing — answer. Again, mind you, the embarrassment was on Obama’s end, not Joe’s. And yet, for that Joe is being pilloried, every aspect of his private and professional life being sorted through and exposed. To prove … what? What does that have to do with Obama’s answer? What does Joe’s situation have to do with Obama’s philosophical answer — that he wants to “spread the wealth”? Obama’s answer goes down the memory hole while the nation concentrates its fire on obliterating Joe the Plumber.

It’s sickening, it’s maddening and it’s downright chilling.

Sorry for the length. But I am just SEETHING.

There’s going to be a lot more of this kind of reaction to Obama’s tactics, and just when he can least afford them.  Admittedly, not so many among the left. But the right, and importantly, independent voters are starting to see just what Stalinist tactics this country is up against with Obama. there’s a gag factor at work now, and Obama can’t stop it… where the totalitarian reaction of Obama and his version of the Hitler youth, and their attempts to take revenge on Joe the Plumber, will cause them to gag when reaching for his lever in that voting booth.

Obama and his following are attacking Joe the Plumber, and threatening his job, his home, and undoubtedly his very life, because as I said yesterday,  Joe the Plumber asked  a pertinent question of a liberal, a question that stripped away the liberal veneer, exposing the socialist underneath.  And again, this is of serious import because Obama got a failing grade on his answers. He leaned, almost as a one would a touchstone, on socialist values… on ‘wealth redistribution’  His answers make clear that not only has Obama not thought this stuff through, he clearly is not used to having his mantra seriously questioned.

The reaction of the Democrats was severe, bordering on violence and certainly has a storm trooper quality about it, as the links above show. But, alas, it was quite predictable.  I tell you the truth, dear reader,  the biggest help John McCain will ever have in this campaign, is simply sitting back and watching, as the American voter is witness to how anyone who dares question a Democrat gets treated.

The result, this far, is that McCain’s numbers are spiking, just at the right time.

Once again, I point to my comments of yesterday:

Consider closely, please, the rapid rise in popularity of Joe the Plumber for asking serious questions of liberals versus the slow demise of the supposedly mainstream media for their long- term refusal to ask such questions. The very reason Obama was caught off guard by Joe was that he dared to enter an area the press would never go.

I can’t help but wonder… if the press hadn’t been in the tank for Obama and focused on tossing the guy softballs for the entire cycle, would it have come to this?

There is a stench of desperation surrounding this, as if they sense defeat coming from a moment of honesty from Obama about his real intentions to institute a regime of redistribution. They want to discredit the man who only asked the question as if he’s some political operative who magically forced Obama to sound … well, a little like a Marxist. Why? They want to distract people from Obama’s answer by sliming the man Obama picked at random to ask a question.

• Remember Obama’s charge that someone at a McCain rally had yelled “Kill him”? Yeah, Obama’s been mouthing that tale as has the Oobama campaign people, otherwise known as the “Mainstream Media”… but ‘t’ain’t so, MacGee. Glenn notes that AP continues to spin this, in spite of the facts.
• Yesterday, I commented on John Murtha saying that Western PA is racist.  Last night we heard Obama say that Joe Biden has ‘never forgotten where he came from’. Does that mean Biden is a racist? I mean does Obama just rattle stuff off because it sounds good? As I said this morning, it’s certainly looking that way, because when he’s forced to deal in fact and not just huge oratory, he doesn’t do so well. 
• I’m willing to bet you didn’t know the second in command of AlQuieda in Iraq was killed the other day. Did you notice Iraq didn’t come up much last night? That’s because we’re winning, you see. Kinda hard for Obama to use that as a wedge issue, at least in the general election.

  One thing I liked about the Bush/Gore debates is that it was obvious both men loathed each other and they didn’t care who knew it. That liberated them, for good and ill.By contrast, for all the characteristically ponderous huffing from Bob Schieffer about “negative campaigns”, McCain was never able to cast aside the Senatorial collegiality and really stick it to Obama. Why couldn’t he have used the s-word – “socialism”? Why couldn’t he have said that his opponent is a perfectly pleasant fellow but he has an all but blank resume so all we have to go on is his votes and his associations and both suggest a doctrinaire liberal well to the left of, say, Bill Clinton? Why couldn’t he have pointed out that Barack Obama would be the most left-wing president ever elected in the United States?

  Steyn here, has correctly identified the disatisfaction most Republicans have had with this process. I’ve said it before, people, socialists simply do not deserve the ‘nice nice’ treatment. They do not deserve respect, false, or otherwise. McCain, in this case, damages his own case when he gives the left any pretense of respect.

They report that among those they polled, the all-important independent voters gave McCain a 9% edge over Obama:

  Forty-nine percent of respondents said that Obama won the debate, compared to 46 who believed his opponent, Sen. John McCain, came out on top. The three-point gap separating the two candidates was equal to the poll’s margin of error.

For all BO, and for that matter McCain, rails against greed, BO’s tax the rich scheme is pure greed, more government hand-outs that the other guy pays for it.   It is hypocritcal to want more government beneifits, but demand that somebody else pay for them.   Then that is the basis of the democrat party, pure greed.

If I get time, there’s a number of points I’d like to break out of it.  But for now, a quick overview of who won and who lost.

If there’s one thing that the blogging Democrats and their pre-written declarations of an Obama victory in the debate last night proves, it is that BS is a renewable resource. Last night, the left side of the spin floor similarly had nothing but the same tired nonsense we’ve seen this entire cycle.

In their overblown(And largely pre-written) declarations of victory, intended to change voter perceptions of what they saw and heard, they ignore the entire “Joe the Plumber” meme, which I consider a microcosm for last night’s debate, and in fact the whole of the campaign. McCain was wise to bring this whole thing up last night because the story is viral in nature, and will do a lot of his work for him.  I mean, leave at the side of the road all the large number of questions about his relationships with Ayers, Wright, ACORN, and all the rest that now reside under his bus. Those are important, certainly, and we’ve discussed them here.. But in terms of voters personally identifying with a situation, none of these comes close to Joe the Plumber, and Obama comes out on the losing end of that one.

Ah, yes, Joe the Plumber.  You remember him… he’s the one who started asking serious policy questions of Obama… specifically tax questions… in Holland Ohio. MSNBC’s Mark Murray does a fair job for  himself as he writes about that confrontation. (Amazing, given the network he’s attached to, but let that go for the moment) Go and read.

The reality is that all Joe the Plumber did, was ask a pertinent question of a liberal, a question that stripped away the liberal veneer, exposing the socialist underneath.  That’s something the mainstream press has very rarely dared to do. That such a thing so rarely happens is exactly why Obama was caught off guard.  That is particularly clear in the video. In asking those pointed questions, Joe succeeded in inserting himself into the political landscape. Since that day in Holland, he’s been on with Couric, he’s been on ‘The War Room’ (Which by the way, has more listeners than Couric) He’s been on at NPR, etc, etc,etc. The liberal press that ignored the questions Joe dared to ask, is now apparently trying to grab some of his thunder, while just as apparently not understanding his popular appeal.

Why is this so important?  Well for one thing, Obama got a failing grade on his answers. He leaned, almost as a one would a touchstone, on socialist values… on ‘wealth redistribution’  His answers make clear that not only has Obama not thought this stuff through, he clearly is not used to having his mantra seriously questioned. His reaction showed it, and for revealing this, Joe the Plumber is a hot topic today. He became important based on that one set of questions, and for making Obama squirm with them.

So how does all that bear on last night? It’s rather simple. Obama of course knew the subject would come up, and had his tap shoes on, ready to dance around stuff McCain threw out. But as Obama demonstrated last night, there is a major difference between being ‘ready’ and being capable.  He couldn’t hide the fact that his devotion to socialism is a major weak point, much as he wrapped it in the usual feel-good-sounding words. There’s no question that Obama is eloquent, but in actually reading what he says, outside that delivery of his, when one gets to really analyse what he’s saying, and what he’s proposing, one gets a clear picture that the Obama is a complete disaster for America.  I should point out the fact that Joe has done exactly that.

Honestly… McCain is not a showstopping debater.  Never has been and that much was clear back in the 2000 cycle and frankly long before that. thing is, though, we’re not electing a Harvard Debate team, we’re electing a leader. So, to win in terms of winning the election, what McCain had to do during the debate was to reveal the flaws in not only Obama’s policies, but in Obama himself. Not with anything explosive, but by sticking a prybar in the cracks so a little light can shine in over these next 20 days or so. McCain did that. And with the revelation of those flaws, with that substansive debate, where high sounding oratory doesn’t quite matter so much as mere facts, Obama didn’t do as well, and couldn’t close the sale… as has been the case all through this campaign cycle.

 Win: McCain, by small points.

Now the stage is set for the last lap. Watch for McCain to be pulling on that pry bar.

And by the way, an informal poll being run at Drudge this morning, is apparently in agreement with my reading of the matter… running 75/25 in favor of McCain.

Bruce notes John Murtha with an interesting statement:

U.S. Rep. John Murtha says his home base of western Pennsylvania is racist and that could reduce Barack Obama’s victory margin in the state by 4 percentage points.

The 17-term Democratic congressman tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in a story posted Wednesday on its Web site that, as he put it: “There is no question that western Pennsylvania is a racist area.”

Seems to me this is an obvious play for White Guilt, since he knows such things work for Democrats.

But you know, it says something else, too. Murtha is apparently reacting to polling data the rest of us are not seeing, that suggests Obama’s in trouble… trouble enough that someone Murtha owes a political favor to, has decided it’s worth it to get Murtha to risk his seat, to employ these tactics.

• Tonight is the final debate between BO and McCain.  The obvious lean is for some serious fireworks to occur, but I wonder if McCain will go after Obama the way he should, on ACORN, and Democrat Voter Fraud Wright, Ayers, among other matters.  It’s all on him, tonight. I’ll tell you true, here…  If McCain doesn’t come out with some real fire, here, hang it up.
• Oil’s down below $72 as of this morning. That’s a 13-month low, for whatever that tidbit is worth. I’ll blame Bush, I guess. I’ll point out, though, that this thing has gone down, pardon the pun, exactly the way I said it would. If I got it right trust me it’s a totally predictable situation.   But here’s a teachable moment as regards energy prices: I paid $2.60/gallon on the return from our camping trip at the local Indian reservation. The Cheapest I can find out here in the land of taxes is $3.40, with most stations still going for $3.60 or so.  Granted, that’s an 8 month low, but still… here’s the point; All of that difference is taxes. Meanwhile we see Iran’s reaction to low oil prices: Fear. Here’s why. Iran’s break-even price is $90/bbl. We’re already $20 below that. Now, most of that cost is their horrible upkeep slowing them down. The upkeep of their feilds is about what you’d expect from the Cuban transporation system.   For other OPEC members, the break-even price is a lot lower. So, Iran is falling behind again, money wise. It’s their own doing, of course, but they’d never admit that to themselves, much less anyone else. Look, gang, here it is; Domestic Drilling as a foreign policy lever. All we need do is keep the $/BBL to around where it is now, and Iran is totally isolated, even from it’s fellow Islamic states, whose per BBL costs are not nearly as high. Domestic drilling won’t make any difference? Don’t you believe it.
• And yes, I know I told you I’d have some pics of that camping trip up. Sorry, I had a server issue at casa de Bit last night. Drive failure.  Once I get the server running propoerly again… it required a rebuild… I’ll be restoring the pics from tape, and we’re golden. Life, you know.
• I see where the FBI has apparent begun its own investigation into West Palm Beach Congressman Tim Mahoney. I also see by way of the Washington Times, where they’ve now uncovered a second affair he’s involved with.Memo to Nancy Pelosi: Remember this was supposed to be about DRAINING the swamp?  And don’t tell us you and Rahm didn’t know about this. Why isn’t the GOP all over this one?
• No more questions about Obama and socialist wealth redistrubution. 
• I see Jesse Jackson can’t keep his mouth shut.  He’s managed to attach the usual anti-Israel tirade to an Obama presidency. Obvious question: Why will Jews vote for Obama? Is it an instinctive need to self-destruct?
• Indeed, why would ANYONE vote Democrat? I see where Barney Frank, the guy who led us to the debacle with Fannie and Freddie, now wants to apply this winning touch of his to capitalism as a whole.  The sad part is there’s a number of idiots out there who seem willing to LET him.
• I see Stephen Harper’s Conservatives in Canada have won again. The agenda that this huge win enables?
  

  $50-billion in corporate tax cuts and possibly big buck solutions to easing the credit crunch. The party also promised in the campaign to enact a tougher crime package aimed at young offenders in particular.

  A little annoying that the GOP here seems intent in ignoring the success up there in Canada and more

The Washington Times is now reporting:

Democratic vice-presidential candidate Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. has paid more than $2 million in campaign cash to his family members, their businesses and employers over the years, a practice that watchdogs criticize as rife with potential conflicts of interest.

In last night’s Ramble, I said:

OK, yes, it’s the National Enquirer. Yes, nobody else is covering the story. Yes, there’s a Clintonista running the place.  But given that on three occasions in the last six months by my count, they’ve managed to scoop the MSM with accurate stories that seriously damaged Obama‘s campaign,  you really have to wonder about this. Dan Riehl describes the story this way:

 

.Okay, to summarize – from the time he was a child until he was a young man, I guess, Barack Obama drank whiskey, wrote dirty limericks, read poetry and, um, was counseled by a sexual deviant, child molester, rapist of children? That about cover it? And in his book he said it had a lasting effect on him? .

Well…. actually, I don’t wonder at all. I believe it.  Here’s the thing: Of late the National Enquirer has shown itself to be of greater trustworthiness than has Obama, or the remainder of the MSM.  Look, gang… this is not piling on, nor is it blaming the victim. I don’t recall Obama ever once claiming victim status at the hands of Davis.  I’m not about to blame someone for such misjudgements at age 10.

The question being asked, however, is have those abilities improved since he became an adult.

Over at OTB this morning, I put a little edge on it:

What he did or did not do as a child isn’t the point, as regards the validity of his personal choices. How he labels the incidents NOW, however, is. He says in his book, that he considers Davis a ‘mentor’.He’s confirmed it, as has his campaign. Seems a little obvious to try and toss Davis under the bus with all the rest at this point.

Argue if you will this is merely one more ‘Mentor’ who wasn’t who he thought, but that… along with all the other people who weren’t what he thought they were, of course, still add up to a huge question mark on his ability, to judge such matters today. Given his supposedly superior judgment was the central pillar in his claims of legitimacy on the presidency, this long list of people and situations where his vaunted judgment failed him seems a legitimate point of discussion.

Now of course we have the usual suspects out there, claiming that this story is all garbage and trying to take it off the table. Of course it should be noted that these same folks raised no objection whatever to the large number of fables that came out about Sarah Palin.

I also note DavidL showing up over there and wading in with essentialy the same concepts as I.
