From Sky News:

Celebrites and friends have been paying tribute to actor Gary Coleman who has died after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

The former star of 70s sitcom Diff’rent Strokes was reportedly treated in hospital for a serious head injury after a fall at his home in Utah.

The 42-year-old was taken off life support and died with family and friends at his side, according to a spokeswoman for the Utah Valley Regional Medical Centre.

All except for his parents.  From Snark Food:

“We’re not pointing fingers at anyone, but we need to know exactly what happened,” 71-year-old Sue Coleman said in an interview with People.  “Did our son fall down the stairs? Did he fall in the bathtub? We need to have some closure on our son’s life.”

Sue and William Coleman reportedly had not spoken to their son for 10 years. Gary Coleman sued his parents and business manager in 1989 for allegedly stealing his fortune, a claim his parents deny.

Gary Coleman, back in the day

The feud, if I recall correctly, was as a result of the senior Coleman’s trying to take over the financial resources of the junior, when he was in some serious rehab or other.  Seemed to me at the time that there was a serious lack of maturity on both their parts.  Also seems to me that ten years is a long time to not say anything at all to each other.  They handled the situation badly and alienated their own son.  Yes, he was out of control.  But they’re the ones who are going to have to live with their mishandling the situation.  I am somewhat sympathetic to the parents here,  but not totally so.

As for the former child actor himself, somehow, you just knew this guy wasn’t going to be with us long. Granted the health issues involved with his genetic condition would have caused a shorter lifespan anyway, but one got the idea that his self-abuse was going to cause this to go down even faster.

From the REELZ website:

Dennis Hopper

Acclaimed actor and director Dennis Hopper died Saturday at 74 after a long struggle with prostrate cancer. Having starred in more than 100 movies, Hopper is perhaps best known for his roles in Apocalypse Now, Blue Velvet, and Hoosiers, along with the iconic Easy Rider, which he also co-wrote and directed.

Sigh. No less sad for having been long expected.

DavidL's Breakfast Scramble
Is  there a Pulitzer for Iowahawk? MoDo, Maureen Dowd has a Pulitzer and MoDo’s specialty is writing columns on what what she thinks other people are thinking.  Iowahawk  has done MoDo one better, he writes about the Sarah Palin which resides in liberal brains,  here:

Where are our oil reserves? Nice Deb does the work Barack Obama is too lazy to do and report it here.

Is Dumbo all there, Michelle:

My column today examines the diffident demeanor of our commander-in-chief in crisis. To his oil spill and Christmas Day bomber press events, I should also add his bizarrely detached initial remarks about the Fort Hood jihadi attack — which he treated as an afterthought.  Remember?  Once is an oddity. Twice is a coincidence. Three times is a condition

Our thin skinned President, by Peter Wehner, Politics Daily:

The president is constantly complaining about what others are saying about him. He is upset at Fox News, and conservative talk radio, and Republicans, and people carrying unflattering posters of him. He gets upset when his avalanche of faulty facts are challenged, like on health care. He gets upset when he is called on his hypocrisy, on everything from breaking his promise not to hire lobbyists in the White House to broadcasting health care meetings on C-SPAN to not curtailing earmarks to failing in his promises of transparency and bipartisanship.

People with real experience and real achievement tend to develop a thick skin.   In the real world, it because apparent that you can not please everybody all the time.  Sadly, Obama does not live in the real world.   He lives in dream like utopia, with ideal solutions and where everybody is happy.

Pro-death, anti-human and all insaee, By Ali Frick, Yglesias;

This weekend marks the one-year anniversary of Dr.  George Tiller’s murder, a terrorist act committed to stop him for providing women with safe, legal abortions. The murder was only the most obvious sign that the anti-abortion movement is winning, steadily shaving away women’s constitutional rights. Jezebel notes a study showing that fewer and fewer medical professionals are going into the field of reproductive health and services. And yesterday, the New York Times discussed the latest method right-wing forces use to intimidate women seeking abortions:

What in the world is a safe abortion?  An abortion  is pseudo-medical procedure intended to kill a living human being.  As such, it can not be made safe.   Abortion kills.    Sadly  unborn human beings have no choice but to trust their mothers not have have them killed.   Sadly, one million Americans year find out that their trust was misplaced

DavidL's Breakfast ScrambleHow to handle the mosque, from Stink Progress:

The American Society for Muslim Advancement and the Cordoba Initiative recently presented plans to build a community center two blocks away from Ground Zero in New York City that would include “a mosque, performance art center, gym, swimming pool and other public spaces.” Even though a community advisory board voted in favor of the proposal, conservatives have continued to attack the plan, with Rep. Peter King (R-NY) calling it “offensive.”

On Wednesday, a man named “Tony” called into the KTRH-AM (Houston, TX) radio show of right-wing radio host Michael Berry in support of the Muslim center. First, Berry asked the caller whether “Tony” was his real name, because with his accent, he didn’t “sound like a ‘Tony.'” He repeatedly tried to link to the mosque to terrorists, eventually saying that if the mosque is built, he hopes someone blows it up:

There is utterly no need to blow of the mosque.   Just sneak in convert the building into thirteen story pig sty.   Call it creative non-violence

AAP rejoins civilized world:

(CNN) — The American Academy of Pediatrics has rescinded a controversial policy statement raising the idea that doctors in some communities should be able to substitute demands for female genital cutting with a harmless clitoral “pricking” procedure.

“We retracted the policy because it is important that the world health community understands the AAP is totally opposed to all forms of female genital cutting, both here in the U.S. and anywhere else in the world,” said AAP President Judith S. Palfrey.

Peggy the problem is in your mirror, Wall Street Journal:

I don’t see how the president’s position and popularity can survive the oil spill. This is his third political disaster in his first 18 months in office. And they were all, as they say, unforced errors, meaning they were shaped by the president’s political judgment and instincts.

There was the tearing and unnecessary war over his health-care proposal and its cost. There was his day-to-day indifference to the views and hopes of the majority of voters regarding illegal immigration. And now the past almost 40 days of dodging and dithering in the face of an environmental calamity. I don’t see how you politically survive this.

Peggy the basic problem is not Dim Won,  Barack Obama, a man with no prior record of executive experence and no education credentials.   Obama can not pronounce the word competence without the aid of his teleprompter.   The MSM could air drop a battalion of reporters into Wasilla, to investigate a sitting governor with a clear track record of executive experience.   Yet the MSM wanted us to believe that Dim Wo was some Magic Negro with executive experience who could magically solve our nation’s problem.

Obama”s level of competence is not a shock for those who took his public and political record at face value.   Obama was never a god yet Noonan is in shock that her enlightened one is a ideologically driven idiot.

Pass the popcorn.  It is the Ragin’ Cajun versus the White House, By Anne E. Kornblut, Washington Post:

[Janes] Carville — nicknamed the Ragin’ Cajun as far back as his days as an adviser to President Bill Clinton — has grown more outraged with each passing day, culminating with his taking a boat tour of the damaged waterways on CNN earlier in the week.

Now irritated White House officials are pushing back.

“James has always been a very passionate person, and this is obviously a very emotional issue for him,” said David Axelrod, a White House senior adviser. “What I haven’t heard is exactly what he thinks we should do that we aren’t doing. We’re just looking for constructive ideas, and we’re not turning any away.”

Sanity is not exactly Carville’s strong suit, but I do enjoy ‘ratricide.

Da Mayor for home invasion,  from the Peoples Republic of Chicago, via Fox News:

An 80-year-old Chicago man shot and killed an armed man who broke into his two-story house in a pre-dawn home invasion Wednesday on the city’s West Side.

At about 5:20 a.m., the homeowner and his wife, also in her 80s, discovered the intruder entering their home through a back door. The homeowner, who had a gun, confronted and killed the burglar on the doorstep, police said. Cops said the intruder also fired his gun during the struggle.

[…]

No charges have been filed against the homeowner, but Chicago currently has a statute outlawing the possession of handguns. Its legality is currently being decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.

If the homo owner comes in need of a legal defense fund, we will link to it.   If the intruder’s handgun was legal, I would expect he had made a sizable campaign fund.  Is there any other reason for mayors to outlaw self defense?

Kristen Powers on Dumbo, from New York Post:

Since the “blame BP” strategy isn’t working, Obama will today announce tougher safety requirements and more rigorous inspections for offshore drilling operations. Sounds nice — except the problem isn’t a lack of safety requirements, it’s that the experts at the US Minerals Management Service ignored the existing requirements.

While Powers thinks that the Obama administration is under managed, Valdimr, Red State, offers another theory, over-lawyered:

Liz’s bio (below the fold) is chock-full of counseling, coordinating, legislating and advocating, but very little doing. I posit that Ms. Birnbaum would not know an oil well if she fell into one.

Under Obama and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, the Minerals Management Service became an instrument by which the Administration advances its Green Energy/Green Jobs vision. The MMS Cape Wind and other renewable projects were the way to really get noticed within the agency. Oil and gas were so … so, over.

Other MMS top management resumes can be found here.  Note that the emphasis is heavy on environmental activism, light on oil and gas experience.

This explains the Obama administration response to the BP spill, threats of legal actions.  That what lawyers do, sue after the fact.   Leaders act and lawyers sue.  Obama was never an executive but it once was a lawyer.

Obama Care keeps bending the curve up, Dan Danner, Wall Street Jourrnal:

For decades small business owners have been telling anyone who would listen that they need health-care reforms that lower costs. But President Obama and his allies in Congress pushed through a law that will dramatically raise health-care costs and increase the overall cost of doing business. What’s more, the federal mandate requiring that nearly all U.S. residents carry health insurance by 2014 seriously threatens our basic constitutional rights and individual freedoms.

DavidL's Breakfast ScrambleHell no to hatred.  Towel heads want to build mosque over  Ground Zero, New York Post:

Angry relatives of 9/11 victims last night clashed with supporters of a planned mosque near Ground Zero at a raucous community-board hearing in Manhattan.

After four hours of public debate, members of Community Board 1 finally voted 29-1 in support of the project. Nine members abstained, arguing that they wanted to table the issue and vote at a later date.

The board has no official say over whether the estimated $100 million mosque and community center gets built. But the panel’s support, or lack of it, is considered important in influencing public opinion.

If  you want outreach, how about a pig farm in Mecca or just one Christian church or Jewish Temple anywhere in Saudi Arabia?

Watergate II now down to misdemeanor, by Mary Foster, Associated Press:

NEW ORLEANS — Four conservative activists accused of trying to tamper with the phones in Sen. Mary Landrieu’s office pleaded guilty Wednesday to misdemeanor charges of entering federal property under false pretenses.

Remember the over wrought coverage when Jame O’Keefe et al were arrested?   The comparison to Watergate?   Now the charges appear to be fancy version of trespassing.,

Cuomo Jr. tabs Rochester’s Mayor Bob for LG:

ALBANY, NEW YORK (WXXI) – Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Cuomo has chosen a Rochester Mayor Robert Duffy for his lieutenant governor in the race.

Cuomo,at an event in midtown Manhattan., says Duffy, a former police chief, shares his fiscally responsible values, and has a proven record of reigning in spending, and holding the line on taxes, two tenets that Cuomo has already said he wants to govern by, if he’s elected.

Mayor Bob, Robert Duffy was certainly an improvement over Mayor Bill, William Johnson.  Then that is small coimpliment.   Mayor Bob did cancel Mayor Bill insanely expensive Fast Ferry, but seems intent digging up a perfectly good street to re-water the Erie Canal.   In New York State, lieutanant governors are treated like ugly step children.  That is they should never be seen or heard.

The Lady or the Tiger II, or oh what a tangled web you weave when first you practice to deceive.   Trying get out from under the Joe Sestak mess, David Axelrod just keeps digging.    Now Axelrod is accusing Sestak of lying.   Ed Morrissey, Hot Air, elaborates:

Either Sestak is lying, or Sestak is telling the truth.  If it’s the latter, then someone in the Obama administration committed a felony, and perhaps more than one, by Axelrod’s own admission.  If it didn’t happen, then Joe Sestak is lying.  In order to defend itself, the White House has been put in the position of having to call its party’s nominee for the US Senate a liar.

The White House is backing Sestak for the Senate in Pennsylvania.   If Axelrod is correct, the White House is supporting a known liar.    Will Sestak stand mute while Axelrod calls him a liar?   Which would mean that Sestak is either a liar a wuss.   What say you Joe?

So who pulling the wagon, from Dennis Cauchon, Useless Toady:

Paychecks from private business shrank to their smallest share of personal income in U.S. history during the first quarter of this year, a USA TODAY analysis of government data finds.

At the same time, government-provided benefits — from Social Security, unemployment insurance, food stamps and other programs — rose to a record high during the first three months of 2010

Reax, Liberty Pundits:

I am reminded of Margaret Thatcher’s pithy statement about socialism:

“The problem with socialism is that you run out of other people’s money.”

And that’s where we are right now. With the economy likely to take another dip here soon, we can ill-afford expanding the government and yet that’s exactly what we’re doing.

And Fausta:

And how is this sustainable?

Short answer, it is not.   Envision economy large wagon.  Some people are pulling the wagon, and everyone else is in the wagon.   The wagon will not move unless there enough people willing to pull.  The Obama economic plan is punish people for pulling the wagon and incent people to ride in the wagon.  It is not a plan for success.

Prepare for war, Mrs. Clinton goes on Charm offensive, Matthew Lee. Associated Press:

BEIJING – Hillary Rodham Clinton tolerates but doesn’t share her husband’s appetite for violent action movies.  Her daughter’s upcoming wedding is “the most important” thing in her life. And she thinks Timothy Geithner has great hair.

The U.S. Secretary of State turned on the charm in Beijing Tuesday, taking a break from intense strategic and economic talks with Chinese leaders in order to spend some time promoting people-to-people exchanges between America and China.

“Little-Noticed” is the New “Unexpected.”

“Unexpected” become the term of choice for the mainstream media to excuse the Obama administration’s economic failures.

Sex in the City 2, from the film review by Stephen Farber, Hollywood Reporter:

The rather scathing portrayal of Muslim society no doubt will stir controversy, especially in a frothy summer entertainment, but there’s something bracing about the film’s saucy political incorrectness. Or is it politically correct? “SATC 2” is at once proudly feminist and blatantly anti-Muslim, which means that it might confound liberal viewers.

SC2 is still a chick flick, and the last chick flick I saw was Gone with the Wind.   But who would have thought the politically incorrect film of the summer season would be a chick flick.   Reader reviews welcome.

Perp potential Darwin Award candidate, Denver Post:

A suspected burglar police say was fatally shot by a Denver homeowner early Monday morning was a teenager who was hit multiple times in the head.

The incident happened at about 2:20 a.m. in the 3100 block of Gaylord Street, said Sonny Jackson a Denver Police Department spokesman.

I offer no regrets on the passing of the late Marcus Duran.  He lived as burglar, and  died as a burglar.   Further, I hope that Colorado has a felony murder statute and prosecutes both of the Duran’s accomplices, for murder.

Autism charlatan busted,from Newsweak:

Andrew Wakefield, the sham scientist whose now-retracted 1998 paper led millions of parents to believe in a link between autism and the measles/mumps/rubella (MMR) vaccine, has just lost his license to practice medicine in Britain. This sounds like an important development, but Wakefield doesn’t think so. On the Today show this morning, he described it as “a little bump in the road.”

[…]

If the first principle of medicine is “do no harm,” Wakefield should have lost his license a long time ago. To say that his autism study was discredited isn’t strong enough.

Sadly, the whack job is still selling his snake oil.

Michael Sheridan. New York Daily News, reports on a political boxing match between Bobby Gibbs and Sarah Palin.   The big punches, at least as reported, for Gibbs:

“My suggestion to Sarah Palin would be to get slightly more informed as to what’s going on in and around oil drilling in this country,” Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said on CBS‘ “Face the Nation.”

“Sarah Palin was involved in [the 2008] election, but I don’t think, apparently, [she] was paying a whole lot of attention,” he told host Bill Schieffer. “I’m almost sure that the oil companies don’t consider the Obama administration a huge ally – we proposed a windfall profits tax when they jacked their oil prices up to charge for gasoline.”

The problem for Mr. Informed Press Secretary is that British Petroleum has never controlled the World price of oil.    World oil prices are influence is large measure by nationally owned oil companies and not investor owned companies like BP.

For her part, Palin punched back:

“Mr. Gibbs, BP gave over $3.5mill to federal candidates over the past 20 years,” she wrote on Sunday via Twitter, “with the largest amount going to Obama.”

Obama’s one trick pony, Carol E. Lee, Politico:

President Barack Obama is trying to ride the wave of anti-incumbency by taking on an unpopular politician steeped in the partisan ways of Washington.

It doesn’t matter that George W. Bush left office 16 months ago.

The White House’s mid-term election strategy is becoming clear – pit the Democrats of 2010 against the Republicans circa 2006, 2008 and 2009, including Bush.

Bring it on Barry!

Obama World View, sorry Dan, from Austin Hill, Townhall:

Our nation is good, U.S. citizenship is distinct, and national sovereignty is non-negotiable. In a nutshell, this is the mindset, the worldview, of the citizen class. It has nothing to do with one’s ethnicity, or socioeconomic background, or sexual orientation, or gender. It has everything to do with one’s most deeply held beliefs.

[…]

And this why President Obama has enraged the citizen class. He has planted the seeds of doubt regarding our nation’s goodness, and has implied that U.S. citizenship, and national sovereignty, are irrelevant.

‘Pubs can’t lose em all:

HONOLULU (AP) — Republicans scored a midterm election victory Saturday when Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou won a Democratic-held House seat in Hawaii in the district where President Obama grew up — the latest triumph for the GOP as it looks to take back control of Congress.

Djou’s victory was a blow to Obama and other Democrats who could not rally around a candidate and find away to win a congressional race that should have been a cakewalk. The seat had been held by a Democrat for nearly 20 years and is located where Obama was born and spent most of his childhood.

Getting less than a majority of the votes does not strike me as impressive, nor harbinger of holding the seat come November.  However the increase in republican vote total was impressive.

Though a social conservative who would outlaw all abortions, he believes the federal government should leave drug enforcement to the states.

Congresscritters are legislators who supposed to write laws, not executives who supposed to administer the spending of money.    The constitution provides the federal government no legitimate role in eduction and the Department of Education serves no known useful purpose.   Abolish thee DoE and Rich’s job at the Siimes.
