It takes a fool to travel in Al Gore’s figurative foot steps. so Ranulph Fiennes plays the fool, from the Washington Post:

LONDON — British explorer Ranulph Fiennes on Monday pulled out of an expedition to cross Antarctica during the region’s winter after developing frostbite — a bitter disappointment for an adventurer who had spent years preparing for one of the last great polar challenges.

The 68-year-old and his five-member team had hoped to traverse nearly 4,000 kilometers (2,500 miles) in a place where temperatures often dip as low as minus 70 Celsius (minus 94 Fahrenheit). The expedition, dubbed “The Coldest Journey,” will continue without him.

“The condition is such that he has very reluctantly decided … to withdraw from Antarctica while the possibility to do so still exists, before the onset of the Antarctic winter,” the expedition said in a statement.

Fiennes, who has been going where others fear to tread for decades and in 2009 became the oldest person to summit Mount Everest, already is missing parts of his fingers on his left hand because of frostbite suffered on a North Pole expedition a decade ago.

Hat top and rexx: Poor Rirhard’s New.

I’m not trying to mock the man’s ailment, but I can’t help find his predicament humorously ironic considering that he set out on this journey specifically to “draw attention to global warming.”

Not mock!  NO deal. Fools are mean to be mocked.  How better to impart wisdom to the wise than to mock the fool.

Is British ass, Piers Morgan, and his anti-freedom jihad going to shoot down his career and exile him to Keith Olberman Land.    I for one hope so, from, Black Sphere:

And chief amongst those who tout their right to their free speech (not necessarily those with whom they disagree),
is Main Stream Media (MSM). And standing on the bully-pulpit screeching more derogatory invectives about America and her good patriots than any other MSM outlet is CNN. Anyone that has been in, say O’Hare Airport, or a myriad of other airports around the country, has heard the CNN regiment of (leftward only) opinion journalists blathering on about America’s shortcomings. And the pundit colonel of the CNN regiment might have been Brit Piers Morgan.

Unfortunately for pundit Piers, his ratings are now at an all-time low for 2013-down 27% to 87K viewers in the prime 27-54 demographic. But wait…isn’t it hip to question authority and criticize America? Isn’t an English accent the epitome of cool? One would think Piers would be a smash hit with his targeted “Millennial+ Generation” audience!

I wonder what would be worse for Morgan exile back to the UK or banishment to Ithaca?

snark2.jpg The victim of today’s Snark of the Day is Maxine Waters (D – Moon).   I am neither a fan of Waters, in particular, or the entire Congressional Black Caucus, in general.   How having congressmen dumber than bricks is supposed to aid blacks, simply eludes me, from Poor Richard’s News

Sadly for my blog ego, I can not claim to have coined the term, Chicago Thus as description of the Dim Won, b’k/a Barack Obama.     Michael Barone’s use predates me, from J. Christian Adams:

You could have listened to Michael Barone. He saw it coming even before Barack Obama was elected. In October 2008, he penned “The Coming Obama Thugocracy.”

Hit tip:  Nice Deb

Yours Truly, 2 May 2009:

Barack Obama Chicago Thug

In constitutional republic, even the president has to follow the rules. Not in a Chicago style banana republic. In Obamaland rules are for for the little people and the rules are what Obama says they are

Try a Google Search on “Chicago Thug.

Sadly while you take the thug out of Chicago, you can take the Chicago out the thug.

For decades now, Bob Woodward has been considered the Dean of investigative journalism. He was successful investigating and bringing down the presidency of Richard Nixon. On that basis, the left has always loved the man.

Now that he’s investigating the Obama White House the left has the Long Knives out for him. I don’t suppose that to be any surprise… But when we have the White House itself threatening said leftie journalistic hero, , it confirms something that I thought early on… There is an underlying understanding on the left that with Obama there’s something there to investigate, and what we are seeing is genuine fear.

The main fear being that the Obama White House, which has always been mindful of its image is seeing its biggest fear realized… Bob Woodward, the Dean of investigative journalism thinks there’s something in the Obama White House that’s worth investigating.

And credible? In the eyes of the left the man is a journalistic god, having demolished the GOP back in the 70s… his liberal bona fides being nigh on unquestionable. It will be hard if not impossible to overcome the public’s perception that there is a “there”, there. And so, Obama’s people now fear that public opinion will eventually bring down this presidency.

Will it? I don’t know. Certainly there’s been a great deal of damage done these past few days… not least of which by the White House itself and their reactions to Woodward.

Indeed, this is perhaps the most damaging point of all so far. We’ve been saying that this White House is thugish it’s approach to just about everything, reminding one of Hither, Stalin, Castro, and every other socialist despot in history. With these recent threats on the table it will be harder for the Obama White House to overcome that argument.

Will it be enough? Stay tuned.

Addendum I: Apparently, Lanny Davis was threatened as well. Only one quibble with the story is that Lanny Davis is no “centrist”.. of anything.

The Avalanche has started.

And here’s an interesting point I thought to post here earlier this morning… I noticed nobody calling Woodward a liar. I note that again in the Davis piece in the DC. They’re not attacking these people because they’re lying. They’re attacking them because they’re telling the truth.

Addendum II: (DavidL)   I do not argue with what Eric wrote.  He did describe Woodward as an iconic figure for leftarded journalists.   However Woodward’s credibility leaves much to be desired.   Woodward attributed his Watergate reporting a largely fictitious Deep Throat and claims to interviewed Bob Casey at time when Casey was dead.

On the other side, I do intend to breakout the hot buttered popcorn image, and enjoy the spectator sport of lefticide.  It should prove amusing.

The infamous Geico commercial, video:

Hat tip: Smitty, Other McCain

Actually, I find the dust up to be more amusing than the commercial itself.

As for outrage, I try to spare cloth puppets from my eruptions of rage.   Speaking of cloth puppets, I find the brunet not to nearly as aggressive as Miss Piggy.   Mr. Pig does appear to have refined his taste in women, just a wee bit.

So question, would you rather have your daughter bring home a squid or a pig?

Noiw I am not a Candy Crowley fan, but I do get blondes credit when due, video:

Sadly, if you follow Dumb Joe’s advice, if you don’t end up dead, you will likely end up in jail, video:

Hat tip, Guns.

Further, Dumb Joes’;s advice is so bad, that even the government ignore it, from Robbie Cooper, Urban Grounds:

The Department of Homeland Security is seeking to acquire 7,000 5.56x45mm NATO “personal defense weapons” (PDW) — also known as “assault weapons” when owned by civilians. The solicitation, originally posted on June 7, 2012, comes to light as the Obama administration is calling for a ban on semi-automatic rifles and high capacity magazines.

Citing a General Service Administration (GSA) request for proposal (RFP), Steve McGough of RadioViceOnline.com reports that DHS is asking for the 7,000 “select-fire” firearms because they are “suitable for personal defense use in close quarters.” The term select-fire means the weapon can be both semi-automatic and automatic. Civilians are prohibited from obtaining these kinds of weapons.

The RFP describes the firearm as “Personal Defense Weapon (PDW) – 5.56x45mm NATO, select-fire firearm suitable for personal defense use in close quarters and/or when maximum concealment is required.” Additionally, DHS is asking for 30 round magazines that “have a capacity to hold thirty (30) 5.56x45mm NATO rounds.”

?So when it comes to protecting the lives of your family, who’s advice to you trust Dumb Joe or Big Sis’s?

I see a massive influx of rapists to Colorado and a massive out-flux of women to the saner forty-nine. This what the University of Colorado Springs attempted to foist off as advise on how women could prevent themselves from being raped, from International Business Times:

What To Do If You Are Attacked

These tips are designed to help you protect yourself on campus, in town, at your home, or while you travel. These are preventative tips and are designed to instruct you in crime prevention tactics.

1. Be realistic about your ability to protect yourself.

2. Your instinct may be to scream, go ahead! It may startle your attacker and give you an opportunity to run away.

3. Kick off your shoes if you have time and can’t run in them.

4. Don’t take time to look back; just get away.

5. If your life is in danger, passive resistance may be your best defense.

6. Tell your attacker that you have a disease or are menstruating.

7. Vomiting or urinating may also convince the attacker to leave you alone.

8. Yelling, hitting or biting may give you a chance to escape, do it!

9. Understand that some actions on your part might lead to more harm.

10. Remember, every emergency situation is different. Only you can decide which action is most appropriate.”

Items 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 amount rather ineffective, at best, means of of woman preventing herself from being raped. Items 2, 9 and 10 amount to surrender.

What The Hell is Going on in Colorado? ‘Use Pens for Defense’, ‘Pee on Yourself’, ‘Women Can’t be Trusted with Guns’

Coors likes to say the secret is in the water. And maybe it is?

We don’t need fewer guns, we need fewer retarded  legislators like Jessie Ulibarri, attempting to pass inane laws, video:

Hat tip and reax, Guns:

During a committee debate Colorado State Senator Jessie Ulibarri took to the floor to explain how Gabby Giffords shooter was taken down by a citizen without a gun. “Congressman Giffords’ life was saved and so many others when very valiant folks stood up to defend themselves and protect themselves. And they did it with ballpoint pens.”

If you you are trying to make sense of the previous quote, don’t — it doesn’t make any sense.

In a sane world, a ballpoint pen would be the last resort for self-defense and not the first option.

“It’s why we have call boxes, it’s why we have safe zones, it’s why we have the whistles. Because you just don’t know who you’re gonna be shooting at. And you don’t know if you feel like you’re gonna be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop … pop around at somebody.”

In exchange, gay men should make reasonable compromises over Penn State. They will simply have to accept being registered and kept a safe distance from children. This isn’t a violation of their rights. It’s just common sense. The public has a right to know.

Note that reasonable compromise ss never defined as goring a liberal scared oz.

Eric Florack on February 15th, 2013

John Ransom over at Townhall has been brilliant of late. Todays column is outstanding even in that context. Here’s a taste;

A new report from the UK research team at Price Waterhouse and Cooper confirms what we knew all along: We’re right and they’re wrong.

Really wrong; once-in-a-lifetime, disastrously wrong if grading on the scale the rest of us are subject to.

Grading on the liberal scale, however, it’s just normal, everyday, run of the mill errors in judgment, math, worldview, physics and fluid mechanics that liberals deal with all the time in an effort to “wish” the world to Utopia while their leaders are busy creating Dystopia for all but a select few.

This latest discovery that we are right and they are wrong, shouldn’t shock us.

It joins a long list of things liberals have been pantsed on.

For example: We were right about Obamacare all along. It won’t decrease costs, it won’t cover all Americans and it won’t preserve the private insurance market. And with due respect to Justice John Roberts and the Supremes-do-whop, do-whop- its not even constitutional.

Oh, and that’s not all we were right about.

We were right about the stimulus, we were right about jobs, we were right about Obama being a socialist of the Euro variety; we were right about Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood, and Benghazi.

We were right about Libya being a pretty bad idea; we were right about Dodd-Frank’s suckyness and the mortgage mess being caused by bad liberal policy; we were right about Obama wanting to raise taxes on everyone, taking guns from everyone and having contempt for the constitution.

But on this latest error, I say again: We are really right, and they are really wrong; once-in-a-lifetime, disastrously wrong.

The London branch of Price Waterhouse Cooper has released a report on shale oil and gas that has the Left afraid.

Here’s the frightening truth: “Shale oil (light tight oil) is rapidly emerging as a significant and relatively low cost new unconventional resource in the US,” writes PWC in its February, 2013 report Shale oil: the next energy revolution. “There is potential for shale oil production to spread globally over the next couple of decades. If it does, it would revolutionise global energy markets, providing greater long term energy security at lower cost for many countries.”

And of course the Left can not afford that kind of nonsense. Jobs and economic growth? Where does it all end?

Oh, but it gets worse for the envro-whackos.

PWC estimates that if shale oil is fully developed, US Gross Domestic Product could grow an additional 2-5 percent per year, greatly reduce the influence of OPEC, lower global energy prices, and with NatGas thrown in, add at least a million jobs to manufacturing that are now just going to energy costs.

That means- I’m saying this, not PWC- that we could significantly reduce the deficit, without drastically cutting benefits for a generation of Americans who have planned to count on it. It means- I’m saying this, not PWC- we don’t have to raise taxes. Actually it means we could go to some sort of a simplified tax code, like the fair or flat tax. ======

Okay, admittedly, that’s a bit more than a taste. But of course I have a reason for going so far.

You see, now, the question becomes how to make being right, translate into winning elections.

The answer, of course, is precisely what I’ve been saying all along. Notice that each and every one of the positions that were correct are labeled by both the left and the GOP leadership (which are becoming indistinguishable anymore) as extreme right wing positions to be avoided.

Clearly, the answer is putting real conservatives up for election. Conservative  who are unafraid to to push these points home and go to the mat with them.
